As parents we should take responsibility for our child and their success! Yes, many parents don't have the priveledge of staying home but instead of allowing your child to spend hours watching TV give them a book, help them with homework and most importantly reinforce what they learn in school. This bill punishes our teachers based on lack of support from home. Why aren't parents being held accountable for their lack of support? Not all children are created equal. Some need additional time OUTSIDE of school hours to help them retain the information. Some have anxiety about test taking. This is not a reflection of the teachers ability but of the child's learning style. Are we aspiring to be the land of test takers and memorizers? That's exactly what these children are being taught. I remember growing up without the FCAT and learning was fun and exciting. I craved knowledge because it was exciting. There's nothing exciting about learning how to take a test. Teachers are already underpaid and many spend money out of their own pocket to supply their classes with supplies that should be provided by the state!! Imagine my disbelief when I found out that teachers must buy their own paper to make copies?!?!?!? If we can afford a brand new stadium for a sports team we can afford paper and supplies for our classrooms! Don't drive our best teacher's out of Florida.

Please give teachers the tools they need to do their job like up-to-date technology, enough pencils and books. Don't just make a test the most important part of a student's curriculum.

I am greatly concerned about what S.B. 6 will do to FL's eduction system. As a highly qualified educator working with ESE students, I will lose the funds that have allowed me to be successful with my students. Specifically, I would lose the moneys for my advanced degrees and years of experience, and since my students do not show the same rate of improvement, I will have no way to earn the funds. Other ESE providers are going to be in similar situations and we have families to feed. If wee are unable to feed our families, we will not be able to maintain our positions nor obtain the necessary continue education necessary to provide the best education for our students. PLEASE help the future of our nation and allow students the access to an education provided by qualified teachers!

Standardized testing is a horrific tool to be used in measuring what and how much a child has learned. To also use them as a measuring tool for a teacher's success is insane! If I wasn't labeled with a math disability, I would never have been able to receive my AA degree. That disability diagnosis enabled me to exempt the CLAST and instead take few more classes which I was happy to do. I eventually earned my bachelors.....because I'm good at essay questions. Each child is different and learns differently..... Just like each teacher has their own teaching style. Anything put in place to steer them away from that can in no way be good for their students. Plus, who in the world would be motivated to want to teach if this is passed? The pay as a teacher already sucks....especially here in Gadsden County. This bill will take a huge toll on us.

Though I work extremely hard with ALL my students, struggling students have difficulty making the same amount or type of progress as high achieving students. This bill could cause us to lose our teaching certificate. Compensations for degrees or experience will be illegal. What incentive is there for teachers to remain in the field for any length of time? What incentive is there to continue seeking educational professional development or higher educational degrees? We are educators; we strive to promote life-long learning through continued education. A one day test for the entire year is not an absolute, definitive, or reliable measurement of an effective teacher. Please help Florida's children, parents, teachers, and the Sunshine State.

How about students being responsible for their own learning..... What if students earned bright future-like scholarships starting in kindergarten. Each year a student showed learning gains money would be allocated for college for the student. This may make education a priority in lower and middle socio economic homes and most importantly students are responsible for their own learning!

I have spent many hours after school, weekends, holidays, and in the summer trying to come up with ways to help my students be successful. I have sacrificed precious time with my young daughter to plan lessons, grade papers, and attend workshops to make me a better teacher. I have spent thousands of dollars for school supplies and other things that allow my students to learn by doing. THIS BILL IS A SLAP IN THE FACE! I am disgusted that our elected officials have made our teachers and students out to be a number. The state of Florida WILL lose the best teachers to other states and to other professions. We teachers sacrifice time with our families, money on classroom materials, and much more to do the best for our students. This will also hurt our students with a pass-a-test-or-you?re-not-worthy attitude. No matter how much time and support you give to students, there are some who cannot show all they know on a test; especially when it will put so much pressure on them and the teacher. Research shows that children and adults BOTH do better when the feeling of safety is high and the stress is low. That is not happening in our classrooms today. No wonder the United States of America is having problems! Our legislators are constantly comparing our students with those in other countries. There is one factor to consider when legislators compare our students with those in foreign countries. The countries that have the highest performing students do not offer education to all students. They also have much more parental support. We have to teach students regardless of race, language, exceptionalities, and parental support. As a parent and a teacher, I will NOT vote for any candidate in future elections that does not support teachers and our students. Do the right thing and support your teachers!

This bill totally demoralizes me as a teacher. I refuse to work under these conditions and I am a National Board Certified Teacher with a Master's degree in Science, which by the way will no longer be important in Florida anymore.

I am a fourth generation teacher and I am considering changing my occupation based upon this terrible piece of legislation. My mother who has been teaching for over thirty years is considering she will have to retire early if these changes are made, because she will be losing a couple hundred dollars a month for her retirement. This is frightening for the future generation that will not have a chance to have teachers that change their life and create a love of learning, but merely teach them how to take a test. I also fear for minorities and students of low SES. No Florida teachers will want to work in school where students do not speak English or have learning problems or perform lower on standardized tests. This is a shameful step in the wrong direction for public education.

Our Legislatures need to do their homework, research this more thoroughly, and listen to the ?highly qualified teachers? that are working diligently to give our children an outstanding education. Are all of our Legislatures ?highly qualified?? Perhaps we should look into compensating them on how they perform. We could save the state a great deal of money!

Most people have no idea what it is to be a teacher...here is an analogy of what this bill would look like if it was in corporate America... Your boss gives you a project to work on with 2 other people. 50% of your salary will be base on how well this project turns out. You have 1 hour a day to work on the project, shape it, edit it, fill it with amazing ideas and projects. The other two people on your team, who's salary will not be impacted at all by this project, get to take it home and work on it 6-8 hours a night and weekends. Think about the fairness of that. This is what this bill will do for teachers.

Is there any way to stop this crazy legislation? I am thoroughly disgusted! When will education be about teachers and students. I am retired now and was "in the system" over 30 years and this is the worst yet. Where oh where is Governor Graham!
