This is a horrible bill! I am a retired teacher not living in Florida. I taught school 37 years and have supervised student teachers at Clemson University in the area of secondary mathematics. I do not like the changes that I am seeing take place all over the US in education!REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that although an element of accountability is essential, tying compensation to test scores is ludicrous. No one can "force" our children to do well -- we will end up with a system that will give our kids the answers in order for them to do well! How is that effective?REPORT COMMENTS

If you want to cut pay, start at the top of education and, none of them have been to schools to see what is going on. You can't make a child learn and you have some that won't learn no matter what.So Senators and education people are you ready to take a cut in pay as well as the teachers and accept responsibility for what you say needs to be done in the school system? How many of our children will end up quitting school because of this mess you are creating? wake up and smell the coffee, Teachers are doing what you say they need to do but you keep adding more to their plate. Everyone should jump on the bandwagon and push to cut your pay.REPORT COMMENTS

It is shame that our government continues to use teachers as a punching bag. Teachers are the key to giving future generations of American citizens the passion for education that will keep America on top of the world. If you want better teachers, then make their profession more competitive by raising pay, not reducing it. We, as parents, cannot forget our responsibilities to our own children when it comes to their education. Teachers are not the only ones responsible for a child?s education. Parents need to be involved and reinforce what the child is learning in school. All this bill does is back teachers into a corner to fight for their jobs. Once a teacher is in fear of losing their job there is no telling what that person might do in order to keep their job. This alone will compromise the integrity of our already flawed educational system. I am a firefighter / paramedic in Broward County Florida, and a father of a 9 year old and 5 year old who attend public school in Miami-Dade. We must find a way to boost the teaching profession to get the most qualified, educated, and motivated educators to teach our children.REPORT COMMENTS
