I signed this petition last year.. Things have only gotten worse and continue to do so affecting many more people. I can pinpoint the rapid deterioration of my own mental and physical health when my pain management practice suddenly had to half all patients medications regardless of individual circumstance. I followed orders and did as asked, but have not been able to really recover. The increase in my now seriously under managed pain has wreaked havoc on my entire body, whereas prior, I had very few other health issues to speak of. I am having to take other medications to help combat the health issues created from NOT treating the pain appropriately. I just feel its now all about making us go broke with all the therapies you must do. It never ends, just repeats, regardless of your history and how well a certain medication may have worked before etc. I have to fill my own pain medication every 2 weeks which is ludricrous when a valid reason cannot be provided. I, as many of you, have gone through every procedure, alternative therapy, medication as well as ANYTHING to relieve the pain. $100,000s out of pocket and almost a decade...that should be enough! I wish I would not have gotten an artificial disc replacement surgery as my last resort. It did not relieve my issues, nor was it a last resort, but absolutely created more problems and more bloody pain. When I was actually treated as an individual patient, I thrived much more in my life (could still work and pay taxes, play with my daughter and son, just taking care of myself and my family. Now lucky to even enjoy doing the simplest of things like a bath now because of this.) thanks to the opiate medication (and other incorporated modalities) it allowed me to function just a semblance of a normal life when they were permitted to be adequately prescribed! I could at least live then, now I deeply suffer thanks to others stupid actions. My dose was never changed during a very long time (3+ years) nor did I run out early, fail a UA or whatever excuses they seem to pull nowadays. There is such an obvious lack of the chronic pain patients voices. I literally have wished that I was an addict. I could get all the help I wanted. Too bad they can't help deal with helping legitimate physical pain. Prayers to all of you and your loved ones. It's truly unfortunate how callous and uncompassionate others can be until they have their own painful experience. Sometimes that is the only way they will understand. Those still standing, or able, please try to stay strong, remember there are 100 million of us, and we cannot forget our brothers and sisters in so much pain, especially those that chose to leave a little early because it can truly be life altering pain. Cheers and best of luck to all those hurting.Sep 19th, 2016Someone from Sacramento, CA writes:

I have been prescribed Tramadol for nearly 5 years, and (up until now) it has been sufficient to make my chronic back pain livable. But I am now being told that I have to see a Pain Management Specialist half-way across my state to "hopefully" receive a 3-month prescription. That means driving six hours round-trip with chronic back pain to possibly get a prescription for chronic back pain. There has got to be something done for pain sufferers. I have had chronic sciatica for 8 years. I've been given ibuprofen, low grade muscle relaxers, physical therapy. With all of these I still cannot get back to work to support my family because I am always in pain. I know people who get prescribed heavy narcotic medications for much less, and it's aggravating. I am fully able to work and be a productive member of society, but I can't do it in this kind of pain. No doctor I've been to we'll prescribe me anything and sends me off to physical therapy, which helps during the duration but not in the longtermREPORT COMMENTS

I have been abused by doctors, pharmacists, hospitals, family, friends and many others over the past 22 years I have lived in chronic pain most people couldn't fathom. I was suicidal many different times, but did not do it because I had children. It is still happening and my neglect by doctors has been so bad because I was labeled a drug seeker, that so much damage occured causing me to lose 5 of my internal organs and constantly fight septicemia from minor infections. I am now told I only have less than 2 years to live and there is no hope. I am only 42 and I live with chronic daily pain because even though I've finally been diagnosed with 2 extremely rare diseases, I am not belived to be in as much pain as I claim. My diseases also explain why and how my body is allergic to anti-inflammatory drugs, but also how it metabolizes medications twice as fast as people who do not have a severe and fatal form of connective tissue diseases. THIS MUST BE CHANGED BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM THE PAIN!REPORT COMMENTS

I deal with the pain but am stuck in the bed in the same boat conto plating suicide as well because of being treated like nothing is wrong with me for years now through the VA system especially. I served 5 years of busting my butt in the Navy taking care of patients that I would never let suffer this way. When is the government going to stop punishing US citizens and going against our own Constitution that I swore to protect? I'm a Vet forced to suffer just like so so many others. I need pain medication on a daily basis and have tried everything else but can't afford to jump through hoops or pay out of pocket because I live off a limited income. My only insurance is the VA because I can't work to support myself because of a L4/L5 digenerative disc disease...I suffer daily in severe pain. The VA says nothing is wrong with my back which is the direct opposite to what my service connected paperwork says that they are paying me for...does that make sense? The government is definitely hurting people who are in serious need for the medicine that they should be able to get legally. Change it now!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

My doctor has told me how restricted he is to prescribe pain medicine, so instead he prescribes me Lycria. Lyrica does not help dull chronic. Lyrica makes me comatose all I can do is lay on my couch, hence gaining weight. One would think with marijuana legal for everyone over 21 here in WA pain patients should be doing well. The cost of marijuana and products is out of reach unless you grow your own. I had been a patient at the Seattle Pain Clinic for over a year. Dr. Li got greedy. In his defence though some of the patients I saw there looked like they were on their way out. I had built the trust so the Dr would give me 3 month's prescription. Suddenly there are 25,000 chronic pain patients in western WA abandoned by their Dr. SPC allowed medical marijuana, as long as patient has a permit ($145/ year out of pocket). And of course we had to buy any of that we could afford; I'm positive that the insurance companies are going to buy us any of That medicine!! The state has really gotten a boost since WA laws have changed to collect taxes from recreational pot stores. A the mom and pop stores medical are closed now. It gives me extra relief from neuropathy. Wish me luck finding a new pain Dr! Feeling less alone than before after reading other people's stories.jREPORT COMMENTS

I and many of my friends have been in the building trades for 30 years or very close to it, we all suffer From chronic pain from working very hard to support our families. I myself take opioid for the absolute horrible pain, I know for a fact that I would not be able to make it in to work if I didn't have my Dr prescribed medication. Now they will not prescribe anything period for any of the people that I know that really need it, because of the people that abuse and mix medications that aren't even prescribed to them... this seems like a blanket policy to deny good people that are just trying to survive and have a decent life pain medication. It should be case by case, not make good people suffer, I think this is just terrible and something needs to be done!REPORT COMMENTS

The lack of the willingness for my doctor to give me anything to help manage my pain after an auto accident contributed to my Secondary Adrenal Insufficency which may be a life long illness with even more complications. All because I am allergic to acetaminophen and she kept saying I can't give you anything stronger than basically advil. If the doctors had managed my pain properly from the beginning I may not be where I am today and it is very sad. I have lost all faith in our medical system and believe the government and insurance is ruining the lives of many people by not letting doctors be doctors. It is very sad when the best country in the world cannot even treat people how they need to treated.REPORT COMMENTS

Chronic pain, at a relatively moderate level, still is a tremendous psychological burden for so many to bear. Nobody knows how difficult that is until they experience it for themselves. Nobody knows how much pain a human can live with and still have an acceptable quality of live until they live with it themselves. Nobody knows what treatment disciplines will work for any one person until those are experienced and that quality of life is met. What works for me may be ineffective for you. The management of chronic pain should be, has to be, between the patient and the patient's physician(s). For the government to decide introduced legislature into that relationship, that process, is bound to create further roadblocks into a patient's path towards the best possible quality of life that anyone deserves. I'm not naive in thinking that there isn't a destructive pharmacological problem in this country. But through my reading about the problem I've discovered that many of the addictions, deaths, crimes, and diminished quality of life occurs among people who seek a high and they aren't typically chronic pain patients. To treat the over all problem by turning doctors and patients into criminals is akin to cutting out part of someone's brain to get rid of migraines. The problems, the suffering, rising by over-reaching control of how pain is treated by pharmaceuticals are going to increase exponentially. Please look at the whole picture. Not only the dark spots. Please not only pragmatically, by compassionately. Thank you, Louden KliehrREPORT COMMENTS

People who are dying of cancer are being denied even low doses of pain medications. There are many medical conditions in which no other meaningful treatments currently exist. Even patients who have NEVER been addicted to any substance in their life are being denied the medicine they need for their very REAL medical conditions. For many of us, medical marijuana cannot help us. My body cannot process marijuana. It is part of my medical condition. Dr gosy and Associates in Buffalo New York put my life at risk when they refuse to refill my pain prescription on the day that it was due to be filled they gave me zero notice + 0 reason why they were treating me this way. I have MS and seizure disorder and fibromyalgia and several other risk factors that make cutting off oxycodone cold turkey of risk to my very life. They claim they were looking out for my own good I eat that I would possibly getting multiple pain prescriptions but when I stop and in Pennsylvania where I live they also have a similar program that monitors controlled prescriptions they have all the information at the tips of their fingers to confirm that I had zero other doctors prescribe me pain medication. They degraded me over the phone they had no explanation for the behavior and I was supposed to go to the ER when I woke up later that night screaming from the pain no longer able to handle my chronic nerve damage and other factors of pain. Who speaks for the patient? Who makes the doctors pay? Who says to them what you did was so morally and ethically wrong that you should no longer be able to practice medicine? Forget about going to court and trying to prove malpractice or lack malpractice they obviously put my life at risk with a medication that's more powerful than morphine being cut off with no chance of me being able to acquire another doctor. I have finally finally become fed up with doctors treating me like trash because my body has a disease and although the source of my pain is not well understood it is there. I deserve to be treated like a human being I deserve a good quality of life I deserve to live my life without fear and despair and yet they have robbed me of so much. If it wasn't for my family telling me to fight on and that we will not take this lying down I very well may not the living today to write this. They literally took the last shred of belief I had in the fairness and equality between patient-doctor relationship and grounded into the dust. Now we will see what the courts think of their actions and of their treatment of me over the past year and if they can get away with it so easy by hanging up on me or putting me on hold for an hour and a half or indefinitely until I hang up myself. 1 months they literally did not call in my prescription whatsoever until I had to beg for a bridge prescription from my primary care and then they had the absolute cojones to say that I had broken the office agreement to obtain controlled substances from other providers and this is after the pharmacy had sent them three requests and I was informed by a employee that it was under review quote unquote by the medical manager which is simply another dumbass name for their dangerously practicing office manager, Stacy last name unknown but most likely known by her lies putrid attitude and her terrible treatment of patients and her assumption of power that does not belong in her hands.
