Doctors are suddenly afraid to prescribe the medication I have been taking for 10 years for anxiety attacks. I haven't requested an increase in the dosage or quantity. Now I am left with nothing and my already existing sleep disorders have become much worse without this medication as well. This is solely due to new regulations and after another local doctor being arrested by the DEA witch hunts. Please stop interfering with my medical care.Dec 5th, 2014Someone from Hendersonville, TN writes:
Pain Patients are NOT Criminals. The state of Tennessee is deliberately blocking reasonable access to medical care for legitimate patients in a misguided effort to try to solve a DIFFERENT, NON-related problem. Dealing with people who use prescription opioids for *NON-medical* reasons is a Law Enforcement issue. People who use prescription opioids for *MEDICAL* reasons is HIPPA protected, private medical information and thus none of the state's business. As it stands, the Tennessee ?Prescription for Success" initiative is turning Physicians into Narcotics Agents for the state, instead of focusing on providing healthcare to legitimate patients. I submit that this is state sanctioned discrimination against persons based on their medical condition(s), in direct conflict with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as Age Discrimination, since a large faction of older people are more likely to suffer from painful conditions. I am amazed that to date, there has not been a class action law suit against the state of Tennessee on behalf of the citizens who are, every day, working through unrelenting pain to support themselves and their families. It has yet to be determined what the loss of productivity will be, among the workers of Tennessee, who are being barred from reasonable access to treatment for painful conditions as a direct result of this ?Prescription for Success". In order for Tennesseans to live happy, healthy and fulfilling lives, they must first have access to healthcare, including pain management, without fear of state sanctioned repercussions.REPORT COMMENTS

I degenerative arthritis lower back and legs. For the last year I have been using the fentanyl patch and my quality of life has returned to almost normal. I live in Orlando and for the past month I have been in Fort Lauderdale taking care of my mom. So far thirty pharmacies: do not carry my prescription, will not fill because my home zip code is from orlando, will not fill because doctor is out of the zone and the best reason not to fill was a Pharmacy manager at CVS I quote " That is a very high does, I would only fill that prescription for my cancer patients."REPORT COMMENTS

Our pleas fall on deaf ears. The people in power don't want to listen, and they aren't. All we have to send notices is to are crook 1, crook 2, or ozone 3. Politics is in bed with industry and government powers(DEA/FDA). They could care less about the issues of real people. They consider those of us who complain to be little children. Little children require punishment and stricter rules. The Nanny state has been created and ongoing for some time. This won't stop. Anybody with ears and eyes can sense that. A second American Revolution is what it will take to make changes in this system(and I don't mean voting them out!) and right the abuses and kick every lifer out of office. We don't get to vote on things that really matter to us, anyway, taxes, healthcare, jobs, rights, freedoms, whether we start a pre-emptive war, where we get our fuel from, and what we can or cannot put into our bodies, repairing our infrastructure, etc.. These are issues that I would vote on were they to come up on a ballot, but they won't. All we get to vote on are crooks and crooked initiatives. This is why people will seek other measures to get what they need. Can you blame them? I used to, but now, no. If pain patients can't get the measures they need in the old fashioned "legitimate" way, then they will do what is necessary. Thanks, FDA(crooked means ), DEA(criminal behavior ), congressmen(crooked don't listen to constituents), senators(crooked same as congressmen), and president Obama(out in the ozone)!REPORT COMMENTS

What I do know is that whatever a person and their doctor decides is the best treatment for them IS NOT ANYONE ELSES BUSINESS!! Worry about yourself and try to make the best decisions for you!! We need to fix the root of the problem and the root is people who think they know what other people and their doctors should do...and if they dont do it, then they should be caged and their lives should be destroyed!! I just had total knee replacement, has I know I wouldn't of been able to obtain the medication necessary to control the pain for physical therapy, I would have opted to wait or have the surgery in a state that is not totally gone the opposite way on pain medications. I was told at a Walgreens today that I should not be asking if they have the medication, it all depends on if they (the pharmacist) wants to fill my prescription or not. I think this is called profiling and had caused many a riot latelyREPORT COMMENTS

Who is listening? Who cares about those citizens who are truly suffering with chronic pain? Is anyone out there? Laws are meant to protect the citizens of a country not to limit doing what is right for all citizens. What about the cry of the stranger that says is anybody listening, "Please somebody has to do something." " PLEASE, I can't take this pain anymore." You sit by and watch the life in their eyes leaving and despair set in while all the time saying someone will help you tomorrow but it had went on too long. one day too long over the edge of hopelessness takes away a person who tried with all his heart to live. Is anyone listening? Suddenly and shockingly we are taken by horror that Believing in miracles was not enough to keep Hope burning in his heart. One day HOPE fails and a life ends in a delerium of physical and mentally agony. The call for help did not arrive and all is hopeless while darkness swallows the person who is fighting with all their strength to hang on for all those they love. Is anyone LISTENING?................................... Will you listen to the cries of the soul who whimpers in the night as the last ray of hope fades away to nothingness. Who is listening Are you?REPORT COMMENTS

That's ok. I'll make do with the weaker medications from my pain doctor that don't work or barely touch my pain. For now! I hope that marijuana is legalized in every state that hasn't done so yet. Then these pharma companies that pushed FOR this new rule, the parents whose children OD because they weren't monitoring their child's lives testified FOR this new rule, all those folks up there in D.C. (FDA, DEA, HHS) who voted FOR the new rule can kiss my rear. I know there's legislation coming up in a couple of months to legalize here. Recent polls show 57% of Americans support free-market marijuana. If politicians, at any level, don't or wont listen to us, we, the people, WILL vote you OUT and vote to place those who support us into office. 'Nuff said. So you keep saving lives in lieu of punishing legitimate chronic pain patients, reclassify a few more weak narcotic medications into CII (what few are left in CIII), vote, vote and vote more for reclassification. OUR victory will be in legalized marijuana then we wont need FDA, DEA, HHS.REPORT COMMENTS

If the DEA would loosen up some of us who end up bed ridden could live a life. I have complex RSD, I have so much pain I cannot get out of bed without help, I cannot shower a lone. I have no life. I was fired from work for my condition. Which is illegal but I am too sick to fight the fight for a lawsuit right now. I am just trying to survive this disease. My husband and I drove and drove and drove for hours and hours every day for two weeks trying to fill our meds. We couldn't call because the rule is they can't answer you over the phone. We finally got the Dr involved and he told us where to go and said he got it fixed for us. It was insanity I was dying in pain throwing up and helping my husband find a pharmacy. I was not going through withdrawals I was so sick from the pain. We finally got it worked out. Between all the restrictions with the DEA and insurance and the Drs and pharmacies. Everyone is connected I signed the pain management project which I have no issues with. But to act like the ERs can't treat and to punish them for giving more than 8 or ten pills in ridiculous. They need to let the Drs know that people need treatment for pain and it is okay. I had to convince the ER the other night that I had narcotics and I wasn't looking for pain meds. I showed them my prescription I hadn't filled then all the sudden here came the treatment a shot of toradol and muscle relaxers. Thank god. We all aren't looking for opiates, but when we really need them let us fill them. All the Drs can pull up everything that we fill. They see it all. If a Dr is over prescribing then discuss it with them. And by the way to make some of us that are homebound have to go out and get a hand written prescription is riduclous. We obviously need medical help and can't get to the DR but don't want to go to the ER!!!! Please let the Drs do their job and stop intervening and scaring them to death. They know what we have and haven't taken it is all in their computers. I have seen it.REPORT COMMENTS

My 43 year old sister suffers from chronic pain. She has chronic fatigue syndrome/ME which is excruciating. She also has many other illnesses that prevent her from living any kind of normal life. She spends her whole life in bed and only gets out to go to the doctor, and then someone usually takes her. She had dreams just like anyone else. The drug situation has gotten so bad that she never knows from month to month if she will be told that she can no longer get pain medication. The laws have made so the innocent people who are truly sick have to suffer because of the abusers. They say it's to keep the abusers from overdosing, but they're finding other ways, such as heroin, meth, etc. This isn't stopping the drug problem in America. It's only making things worse. The doctors won't help the innocent people and the pharmacies won't fill prescriptions for people, but the abusers are still abusing and still dying from other drugs. My mother took care of my sister all these years, but my mother passed away in 2013. Now my Dad and I have to take care of her the best we can. My dad is nearly 80 years old and I work all the time. I have to watch my sister suffer every day of her life, knowing that she never gets enough medicine to help ease her pain. This is not fair to the innocent people who need help. They should not suffer because of all the abusers out there. There's no reason why people can't be tested and have their medical records checked to see if they have pain or not. The only way the doctors should be held responsible is if they write out to just anyone and have no proof that they need it. The laws have made it so doctors are scared to help anyone with pain meds. If someone intends on getting high on drugs they're going to find a way. They're going to beg, borrow, or steal to get what they want, and these laws have made it worse. People are told to live with their pain or given something that doesn't even help. Has anyone who made up these laws ever had to live with chronic pain for years and years? Has anyone who made these laws ever watched a loved one suffer with chronic pain for years and years? I would say the answer is no or they would understand. There's no reason that the innocent should suffer because of these laws while the abusers are still abusing and dying. What happened to America?REPORT COMMENTS

Suffering from chronic pain is an absolutely terrible burden cast upon those of us who struggle through everyday life. When you add the indignities cast upon the patients by the DEA and then their own physicians it makes life unbearable. Why has our Government and now medical community turned against the suffering put upon those of us with chronic pain? Because of a small percentage of abusers of the medication? How many people die from OTC medication deemed safe by government? If law makers and doctors keep going the direction they are, we the patients are not ever going to get adequate treatment for our conditions. I pray for those who are suffering, maybe God will help those suffering because I fear man will soon not.REPORT COMMENTS

No words can express my disgust for the arrogance and ignorance of all of the individuals involved in denying those of us who cannot perform everyday normal activities without pain relief medication.
