Tired of feeling criminal every time I have a doctors visit to get a script refilled every 30 days for pain I've had since my early 20s! Having to give a urine sample that is being billed to my insurance for over a $1,000 a month because my physician feels he has to protect himself with proving I'm not smoking crack or taking an array of 15 other drugs I've never ever heard of?? This is causing me so much anxiety that my blood pressure is sky high in the doctors office on every visit. I hope I can wean off of this and still function every day as a productive citizen in society? I guess the government would rather have me on early disability than paying my way. Sorry, but I cannot afford to have pay Obama's "High Deductible" health insurance plan and having to ignoring what ever health issues comes my way because all of my savings is going for a **** test for taking medication I've been on for the past 12 yrs! Less overdoses for OPIATES while cheap heroin overdoses sky rocket! Doesn't make sense...Dec 16th, 2014Someone from Corona, CA writes:

I am on the verge of losing everything because of the pain. I'm also very close to other chronic pain sufferers who are having the same issues as far as medications and the standards the lovely government makes. All because some others abuse the medication, the ones like us have to suffer every day. Unable to get out of bed, shower, get dressed, go to work, run errands, clean their homes, ect. You are causing more harm then good. I understand some standards but you all are classifying us all in the same category as drug seekers which is horrid. We need a change, someone to take a stand and fight for us. We need to feel like we are being treated fairly, getting the best care that we are paying for and LISTENED too!REPORT COMMENTS

Each politician receiving this petition in their emails should come to this website and read ALL the other injustices this new HCP rule is having on Americans or Google: Petition2Congress: First do NO harm. Please go read what the dysfunctional government is doing to the millions upon millions of chronic pain sufferers that are being affected by this new classification of hydrocodone containing products. Law abiding citizens are paying the price for the criminals who decided, on their own, to MIX HCPs with other drugs. It isn't my fault that, by their own hands, they met their fate; death. My doctor told me, via a phone call, a month before the rule took effect that he was no longer going to prescribe me hydrocodone due to the DEA and FDA's decision to reschedule; he said, "It's just too much trouble". It's not that he doesn't think I need it, because it's been helping me with my chronic pains and that's what WE BOTH decided worked best after a year of trying ALL alternatives. He's no longer prescribing for fear of prosecution from the DEA. Yea, DEA says that doctors should continue prescribing CII drugs if it's warranted; WELL, my case WAS warranted UNTIL DEA, FDA got involved in ME and MY doctors BUSINESS!!! My doctor is scared shitless of the DEA and it's failed WAR ON DRUGS that's he's just not going get involved in practicing medicine. He'll just listen to me ***** and moan that Tylenol 3 isn't doing the job of taking the edge of my pain, charge me my co-pay and "I'll see you in 4 weeks". UNTIL or UNLESS, I find an alternative to legalized medicine. I refuse to keep making appointments and paying money to someone who isn't going to treat me properly, why should I? REPEAL this asinine, unethical cruel and unusual punishment of a decision TODAY!! Better yet put it to a public VOTE. Then and only then will it have received a FAIR voice. DEA is scared the reclassification will be overturned and that's why they only allowed a short period for comments and were satisfied with the 573 comments they got; not to mention Executive Orders, in place, that REQUIRE 60 days of opened comment periods. What say you?REPORT COMMENTS

No patient with chronic, intractable pain, should ever have to beg for an appropriate prescription of opioids Most people who abuse prescription drugs illicitly obtain them from friends or relatives with legitimate prescriptions. The new law now places a significant burden on patients, the vast majority of whom use them in a legitimate manner. My husband travels for work ? weeks at a time and at a moments notice. His doctor tells him he now needs to pick up a 30 day hard copy prescription each month and refill locally. There is no way he will always have the pain medication he needs when he needs it. It should be the doctors? decision regarding scripts. How are we (those who suffer from chronic pain) supposed to function??REPORT COMMENTS

Dear Sir or Madam: Thank you in advance for your attention to this serious matter. I live in a semi-rural community, Winchester, VA. I am almost three years out from being treating for stage IIIa triple negative breast cancer. I received very good treatment at the Massey Center in Richmond, Virginia. Now, no doctor will treat me. While I am very grateful for the dense dose chemotherapy and the double mastectomy, the removal of my ovaries and other surgery at VCU Massey that saved my life, this treatment does take a toll. The body is weakened, I have had blood clots, a strangulated hernia, etc. I am slim, do not drink or smoke. I have insurance, and I am in pain. I am scared, symptoms are returning. Yet no doctor will treat me. Doctor David Flack, of Selma Medical Center, dropped me without telling me why. My oncologist at Shenandoah Oncology Center smiles, listens to me, is very nice, nods about the increase swelling, the nodule on my liver, yet Dr. Resta will do himself for my very common post cancer treatment pain and swelling. He did refer me though, to the Virginia Spine and Brain Center for pain management. Today I went the the pain center, The Virginia Spine and Brain Center in Winchester, Virginia. I had spoken with them before the appointment of course, and they assured me cancer treatment related problems were within their scope. They were quite pleasant today. They asked my to urinate into a cup, I thought they were checking for infection. I appreciated the honesty, a nice lady looked me in the eye and said sweetly they were checking for heroin and street drugs. Wow. Okay. Their office, their rules. I complied. This cost me $175.00 out of pocket. I met with a nice doctor who was ever so surprised that I was there for cancer as they only treat spine problems with injections. This contradicting all past information, and why did we waste the $175 plus the office visit. They referred me back to the oncologist. The pain and fatigue are worsening. I am a young woman, my family needs me. Please, what is going on? My life is miserable, agony, and no one will treat me. I may die unnecessarily due to lazy doctors, fraud and I don't know what. Please help.REPORT COMMENTS

I began pain meds in 1984 after a herniated disc. It wasn't 'till 1994 I began Hydrocodone on and off when needed. By 2005, no doctor saw my pain was so bad I was not working good. Then a doctor gave me enough Hydrocodone to help. From 2008 'till now, I was able to build a wonderful business and provide income earning abilities to almost a hundred families and serve thousands of Churches throughout the U.S. and Canada. Without the pain everything comes together. I am creative and motivated. Without the pain meds, I am worthless, totally engulfed by pain. The government is out of control.REPORT COMMENTS

Ever since i have been diagnoised with Arachnoiditiis and had to start taking "narcotic" pain meds, trying to get my pharmacy to fill my script, they first would tell me they didnt have them or i would have to wait 48hrs , i became very depressed and felt as though the pharmacist had a right to refuse my Dr's diagnoses and reason to prescribe the medication necessary. I have switched pharmacy and there i was treated with some dignity and respect. Many times after needing to see other physicians i could immediately feel the discourse and negitive feelings from the staff after filling out registration forms and listing my many medications. How dare they assume that i am a " LTDU" without even knowing my medical background and automatically treated me with discrimination, I felt terrible and so upset, knowing all to well i do not deserve to be treated this way! There are way to many Dr's, nurses, secretary, and any /all medical staff inadvertently discriminate without just cause. Proper re-training and education in pain management is in great demand! All those who treat patients with the need for pain management be it medication or other forms of treatment should remember compassion and Do No Harm physically or psychological. All those guilty of this should be held accountable! God forbid they recieve this type of negitive treatment for debilitating pain and need the same meds or the same treatment from Dr.s and staff , ER Dr.s , nurses and of course Pharmacists and staff. AWARNESS AND RE-TRAINING SHOULD BE A MUST!! IF THEY ONLY KNEW THAT IT COULD BE A LIFE OR DEATH CONDITION. Too many outcomes could happen to those in such need, and without proper care and consideration some may seek help from those who are financially supported by illegal drugs to treat their conditions. Pray we can spread this information with education and empathy! LETS DO NO HARM !!!REPORT COMMENTS

Shortly after a diagnosis of Fibromyalgia/Chronic Pain in 1998, my physician sold his practice, and, though devastated by this loss, I had no choice but to try the new owner. This doctor has cared for me for 16 years with compassion and a deeper understanding of the condition than any other physician I have seen. Now the DEA is dictating how he should practice. I use hydrocodone to manage my pain. I have recently renewed my prescription and we agreed to cut back on the frequency, as I have experienced some "remission" and I do not take the pain medication unless Tylenol is not strong enough. I am 73 years old and have always been a law abiding citizen. Is the DEA going to force me go go outside the legal path for my pain medication? This must be re-evaluated.REPORT COMMENTS

Punishing legitimate patients to avoid drug selling on the black market is ridiculous. You claim there is no difference but this is not true. It is more difficult to go the doctor's office more frequently and pharmacists are becoming crazy about filling controlled substances - they are always afraid the DEA will "crack down" on them. The DEA claims it doesn't and that it's still the doctor's and/or the pharmacists' choice, but was it? Has the DEA not cracked down accidentally on certain pharmacists? and/doctors?
