the dea government needs to stay out of health care. let doctors treat their patients with dignity. we all need to protest and uproar. god knew we would suffer pain so he gave men the knowledge and plants to treat it. to let people suffer and be humiliated is not human and ungodly.

your laws on hydrocodone that took effect in oct of this year have hurt only the people who suffer from chronic pain. it will not stop drug users from obtaining it illegally. my wife has been suffering for15 years with chronic pain. her hydrocodone based med is the only thing that saved her from a wheelchair or stuck in bed suffering. it helped her raise our 3 babies and live a somewhar normal life. now she is having a hard time getting her meds that she has never abused. she gets treated like a drug addict. told ti just go home and suffer or find another doc who may give it to you. docs are not accepting new pain patients they are scared or overloaded with now having to see patients every month. wait times can be 2-5hours just to get your monthly script sitting in a dic office

I think it is horrific that the Goverment feels it must take away our individual rights to freedom. Gradually more and more interference with peoples lives. You say for the good of the people. Let people and their doctors decide what is best for who, not the DEA. Against targeting doctors unless they are writing out prescriptions for stupid amounts of pain medications. Against interference in our lives by more and more government regulations. Sure post warning, articles but stay our of the rights of the U.S.A. citizens.

My fiancé is a chronic pain sufferer who broke his back many years ago. Being young and not knowing any better, he laid in bed instead of going to the Doctor. As a consequence his broken back healed incorrectly. Now he suffers with debilitating pain that leaves him struggling to walk most days. He goes to a pain clinic that was NOT shut down with the recent crackdown on unscrupulous pain Doctors, so they obviously weren't breaking the law. He passes every drug test the clinic gives him and he IS NOT A DRUG ADDICT. He takes his medication exactly as directed. He has never really had a problem filling his prescription until a few months ago and now it is almost impossible for him to get his opioid analgesic medicine. He went to the Doctor 5 days ago and still has no medication. The Pharmacist at Publix told him that his Doctor is on some sort of DEA watch list (and he even showed him the DEA list) so that's why he is having a problem getting his medication. The thing I don't understand about that, is the Florida Department Of Health has issued this doctor a state licensure. This means that the state of Florida is saying the Doctor has passed all requirements to practice medicine and write prescriptions in this state. So how can the DEA act like he is doing something wrong. Are they saying the Florida Department of Health doesn't know what they are doing? He has also been told by a Pharmacist that he is having a problem getting his medication because his Doctor writes so many opioid analgesic prescriptions. Based on this Doctors field of practice, he would be negligent if he didn't write more prescriptions for opioid analgesics than a General Practitioner. HE IS A PAIN DOCTOR. People don't go to Doctors specializing in pain for a bruise or a scratch. They go there because they have uncontrolled pain. It is not the type of pain that can be controlled with over the counter pain medication such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen. It is pain that is severe enough for patients to continue going to a Doctor specializing in this field month after month even after being labeled drug abusers and ridiculed when trying to fill their prescription. Other fields that would write more opioid pain prescriptions then a General Practitioner are Surgeons and Orthopedists just because of the nature of their practice. As a Registered Nurse I was taught throughout Nursing school that a patient's level of pain should be assessed with every overall assessment and that pain levels are to be kept under a certain number on a scale of 0-10. So why has that changed? OR HAS IT? The answer is, not to my knowledge! So why are my fiancé and thousands of others being treated like criminals when they are law abiding members of the community, just for having a condition causing them excruciating pain. Everything I read is correct. My wife filed for disablity from an accident 14 years ago and it took 8 years to win her case because we didnt have her in Pain Management.. As soon as she went to Pain Management she won her case in a Federal Court. So by making her do this it helped her pain but is always having problems getting meds that they wanted her on.So we did what they told us too and it helps her pain when she gets them. But they forced her to go to these Pain places and now all she can do is hope and pray she can get her meds. Did they not force her? And now they r sterotyping people of who can get them or not. Just because someone doesnt look like they r in pain does not mean they r not. The courts forced her to get on them before she could even win her case. This is a terrible thing they did to her and now she needs her meds or she is yet another one to die from not getting them. How can this be allowed? This is wrong for the judges and courts to do. She was trying to handle her pain but the court wanted it their way. So she suffers all the time and worries about the next month. Dea should be stopped. They r not Doctors. And doctors take oathes to provide what that patient needs. Dea lies and says Its not them but we know from imformation that it is them and their scare tactics when there is no laws backing them up. If something happens to her than I will spend everything I have to press charges against the biggest liars on this planet. Something has to be done and quickly. Dea is not fooling anyone. They r scaring the Drs and pharmacys and than millions of people r suffering. Wait till they meet God themselves. Drs r here to help not turn away people that wete made to take their meds.???So yes We need to do something about this problem or we will have a worst problem than we ever had. Maybe than lawsuits will start happening if not now. Its pretty bad someone wants to die just to get out of pain when they were made to get on them to begin with. Ban together and lets go after Dea and Congress. Cause I bet no one in DEA and Congress is in pain and go through what millions go through. But remember our numbers out number theres .Learn your laws and rights so we can stabd tall abd fight for what is right.we r human not lab rats. Thank u.Bless all of u in pain like me. They will have awar on their hands that they will never be able to wun.

I have been living with pain since 1993 and I have fought with my Dr. tooth and nail with nay increase or addition of medication that I eventually broke down and agreed to because my pain just increased as time went by and it will continue to do so. I have come to terms with that. I had a Dr. that had tried other means to control my pain without any success. I then moved to another state and even though I told my new Dr. that I had been told that I was not a candidate for a procedure this new Dr. insisted that I was a perfect candidate and that way "we can start reducing your medicine". The trial was a failure, I didn't even last the full trial period because of the pain and numbness in other areas it was causing. When I asked if this new pain and numbness had anything to do with the procedure I was told "Oh no, nothing at all" and given medication (neurontin) for this new issue. About 20 min.s after I left the Dr.'s office from having the lead removed the numbness started to go away and the pain was nearly gone. I never did take any of the new medication that was prescribed. Bottom line is that I don't feel that the Dr actually spent time going over my medical records from my previous Dr. just saw the medications that I am taking and made a judgement call "Drug Seeker", "Long Term Drug User", etc. Yes I have taken pain medication for a while now, not because I want to or for the fun of it but because I am in pain every moment of my life and even with the pain medication it just curbs the pain down to a level so that I can at least get some sleep and be human around my family, not screaming like a wild animal in pain. Frankly I would rather die than feel that much pain or subject my family to that kind of anguish.

I have finally got insurance and getting the help I have needed for many years. I suffer from chronic pain and severe anxiety and depression. I am finally getting the medications I need and I would hate for my doctor to be afraid to actually treat my illness. What goes on between patient and doctor should be private. I am not a drug addict. I want to have quality of life, like any other person in this country deserves. Allow doctors to treat the whole patient, not just what you see fit.

I was injured as a VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUAD MEMBER BACK IN 1985. I have had 12 back surgeries from an accident while going on a call. I have been going to a pain management physician for many years. I am very much afraid of what the drugs are doing to me as I was a nurse before becoming disabled to work. I know the risks of drugs and know that the side effects can be life threatening. There are many drugs that can affect the liver. I know even Tylenol is as dangerous as some of the narcotic prescriptions. I think that there should be education on the drugs from a pain management Dr., so they understand why the government steps in with pain meds. Laws. I see both sides as I can no longer do and enjoy the things I once could. I take Tramadol now for sleep but NOT every night, as I know they are not good for the system. Again, education of drugs may help eliminate a lot of drug dependency. I know there are many people who are selling their drugs. I get screened and feel that even though I know once a year, I feel violated, I know that there are many others should be more tested more often. I really believe the need of more drugs should be left up to the pain doctor and NOT legislatures. They know who needs it, and who don't and the drug abusers and sellers. I would like Congress to allow the input of the physicians.

You can't have relief from pain because you might get addicted! What a load of sh_t. Nicotine is most certainly a drug and tobacco use will kill 80% or higher more than overdose cases but you can walk in any store and even in some drug stores and buy carton after carton because cigarettes are the number one addicted thing in the world. But hey, that's OK! Big tobacco pays out billions of dollars for underhanded lobbying and let's not forget the millions for campaign distribution. This is just a made up war to thin out the hurting and the elderly because without the medications a lot of these folks need, they could very easily die or worse commit suicide. America is only free if you get everything you want and get to tell everybody else what to and how to live their lives in Communist America.

The DEA, or Drug Enforcement Administration, is a branch of federal law enforcement that deals with the identification and confiscation of illegal substances as well as the control and elimination of trafficking these substances between United States borders. Duties of a DEA agent include field and office work geared specifically toward minimizing a U.S. citizen's access to illegal substances. They've certainly overstepped their boundaries, AGAIN, by getting involved with LEGAL prescription/medication. A failed 'war on DRUGS" comes to mind.

MDMA a.k.a ecstasy, DEA scheduling overturn In 1985 MDMA and its analogues were under review by the American government as a drug for potential of abuse. During this time, several public hearings (NOT JUST ONE HEARING LIKE FOR HYRDOCODONE) on the new drug were held by the DEA. Based on all of the evidence and facts presented at the time, the DEA's administrative law judge did not see MDMA and its analogues as being of large concern and recommended that they be placed in Schedule III. The DEA administrator, expressing concern for abuse potential, overruled the recommendation and ruled that MDMA be put in Schedule I, the Controlled Substances Act's most restrictive category (THEY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY WANT, REGARDLESS OF ONE OR TEN HEARINGS, 537 or 10,237 LETTERS OR COMMENTS) Legitimate chronic pain sufferers have been defeated!! Sad.

I am 47 years old and suffer from CRPS... a debilitating chronic pain disease. This new scheduling of hydrocodone is an injustice to all chronic pain patients. I have now been forced to go to another doctor because my PCP cannot prescribe Sch 2 medicine! The only opiate in Sch 3 is Tylenol #3 or #4 and that does not even come close to the hydrocodone pain relief. The new doctor I just went and seen told me upfront that he does not give narcotics on the first visit?! I have been on a combination of pain medicine for years now and this guy is not continuing my PCP request of pain management. The new doc is dead set on giving me a sympathetic block and NSAIDS! I have had 3 epidural injections from a different doctor and they did not work and even made me feel worse! And NO, I cannot take NSAIDS anymore and he prescribed them to me anyway! CRPS is not the only medical issue I have and believe me I cannot even half way function without my medicine! So what am I to do now? I requested a different doctor and now I'm waiting to see if this "jerk" doctor is going to say that I am a drug seeker to the other doctor! Why should I have to worry about this? I just want to live my life with out being in horrible pain! The DEA thinks this will stop all the drug pushers etc. but they will always find a way to be back in business!! And we suffer for something that has nothing to do with us as a pain patient! I thought this is why we have doctors and medicine... to treat people?!! Something has to be done to change this! I hope the DEA and Government realizes that all they have done is created a death warrant for chronic pain sufferers. They need to look up the statistics of suicide among people with chronic pain! That blood will be on their hands. Meanwhile the drug abusers are still walking around doing their thing! I did not choose to have the horrendous disease, I just want to be able to walk to the mail box or go shopping! I can not even leave the couch without my pain medicine and this is my life?! Feel our PAIN! We as Americans should have the right to be able to get our pain management needs met without scrutiny!

REPEAL the DEA ruling on HCPs! This is hurting more people than it's helping. Drug seekers/abusers will FIND a way to continue. Dealers will just raise the price a bit more. Patients WILL find ways too (heroin or blackmarket HCPs) and then these gov't agency will have more blood on their hands, but then all they do is deny, deny, deny. NFL physicians have been sued because of illegal activity with HCPs, the players who sued knew it was illegal too, PUNISH THEM, not patients with legally confirmed, pathology that causes pain and is something they will have to live with the rest of their lives; which will be shortened because they wont have available, legal, relief). It will affect quality of life, morale, family, they will withdraw from friends and society altogether because of the pain. Many will commit suicide just to not have to deal with their debilitating pain. The DEA, HHS, FDA should neither interfere nor dictate patient care. That's why we have Medical Boards who monitor doctor's actions. Take care of the know ILLEGAL activity instead of interjecting your "my way or the highway" attitudes into people's lives and medical treatment. REPEAL this ruling. Help chronic pain patients live a productive life because as of now doctors have QUIT prescribing any HCPs due to fear of prosecution from the DEA. Legitimate patients are being physically harmed as we speak because these gov't agencies are failing at there intended purpose and taking it out on innocent people by making asinine decisions they have NO business making. Yes, if illegal activity is occurring DO YOUR JOB, more power to you, but because patients want relief or people are killing themselves by MIXING other drugs with HCPs is not reason enough to interfere with patient nor their doctors. IF people want to harm themselves, WHO THE HELL are you to get in the way. The only reason I see for doing that is because the failures that have occurred with the "war on drugs", DEA can't win it so they target the hundreds of millions of legitimate pain patients and the doctors who CAN treat them but drs fear losing what they've worked so hard for. When was the last time, if ever, anyone at the DEA, HHS or FDA seen and treated a patient? Do you know what living with chronic pain feels like? Do your intended jobs, and realize when you've failed, but leave US alone. DEA has been at this since early 2000's; this "win" has them reveling and celebrating their cruel and unusual punishment they've inflicted on chronic pain sufferers. REPEAL, REPEAL, REPEAL this absurd ruling handed down by these incompetent agencies. I called about 10 local doctors' offices this morning and asked, whomever answered the phone, about prescribing hydrocodone if warranted and 6 said the doctor was no longer prescribing hydrocodone. The other 4 referred me to their office manager who said they did not comment on office procedures to the public. My prayer is that someone capable of guiding us through a class acti

I believe that many years what a person does with their doctor is confidential and should be between them only. I do not think that the government should be involved in telling doctors what to prescribe to their patients. They are doctors and use to be respected, if anything, it will cause there to be less doctor's or incompetent doctors. The doctor's are the one's that can decide who is in pain. Why are they attacking everyone that needs pain medication? This is an insane act to try to treat all the same. Especially when they see the illnesses and also in senior citizens. I believe it is an infringement on human rights and privacy. I do not believe that it is because the government is so concerned with people overdosing because they don't really care about that. They say we are over populated anyway. I don't believe they would let any of their own family suffer for years with pain with no relief. It only makes the whole population of people in need of said medication angry and lose respect for any government. That is a shame. I and so many others think they should be worrying about the bad people, not regular doctor going people and treating them all the same. They are not doctor's and they do not see all patients, therefor I and so many others believe they should keep there nose out of peoples personal health problems, and do the job that was intended for them to do. Not take away human rights and freedom. This is a cruel act of indecency as well as endangerment in human lives. In one last word comes to mind lunacy.

Words can't begin to describe how incredibly heartbreaking and quite frankly, inhumane, it is knowing how people are treated with pain. Why does the FDA even bother approving any narcotic drugs for moderate to severe chronic pain since truly it is just not considered as a viable option.

This needs to be repealed. It will do nothing for the guy selling or getting high for fun. Folks who need this medicine are forced into withdrawals and worse. The illegal drug seekers like the war on drugs will stop nothing

I have suffered from severe back pain for over 25 years. I am now 62. I recently fell on my back and re-injured it in addition to break both my radius and ulna bones in my left hand clean in half. I am also dealing with a failed full knee replacement with causes excruciating pain. I cry every day. Some ten years ago; my doctor followed me on Oxycontin for over seven years; but when it stopped working; I weened myself off of it and ended up having two back surgeries. Now that the back pain has returned; all I am able to receive if Vicodin; which is like taking baby asprin to me. I am a living vegetable laying on my sofa every day. I have no life whatsoever. I have never been addicted nor have I doctor shopped for pain meds. I can barely walk and now I am required to go into my doctor's office every 10 days just to pick up a prescription of 50 Vicodin with no refills. Pain is an illness and needs to be treated as such. I am severely depressed with anxiety and now have to take medicine for that. The DEA has ruined pain management for so many who truly need it. If my doctor successfully followed me on oxycontin for 7 years; and eventually 2 back surgeries. Why now can't he follow me on a different pain med other than Vicodin. And, I am only getting the minimum dose of 5/325. I have days where he pain is so severe; I can't even drive to my doctor's office to pick up my prescription; which I now have to take to my pharmacy to get it. To the DEA; As the article above states; suicide is an option and don't think I haven't thought about it. You need to loosen these strict regulations for the people who need it. No wonder Medical Marijuana is now becoming available; because doctor's refuse to treat pain. This is an epidemic crisis in the US and something needs to change. I have been seeing the same doctor for over 13 years now. He knows me well and knows I am not an abuser; yet he is afraid of the DEA; so I have to suffer. The DEA has ruined my life. I will probably die early as all I do is lay around, gain weight and get no type of physical exercise. Shame on you DEA.

My neck was broken and sawing through my spinal cord. For 36 years. I went to a pain clinic for 3 years. I complained and complained. They did nothing. My low back needed an implant and fusion. I went for the presurgery MRI . It was then that my broken neck was found. 3/4 of my neck is donated deceased people's bones and titanium screws. My spinal cord is permanently damaged. The screws that are lodged in my hip bones cause constant pain. I have degenerative disc disease. Last year I had congestive heart disease, liver failure, lung failure all from pneumonia. I've had 4 molars pulled because I fractured them grinding my teeth in pain. I had a stroke that went untreated for more than 4 hours. The horrific thing is...I was in ICU when it hit. Not to mention my nurse was standing literally 2 feet from me. I told her several times I was having a stroke. She ignored me and left my room. The drug addicts will continue to get their drugs. All this is doing is making the lives of LEGITIMATE chronic pain patients more impossible. Reverse this "LAW" .
