The FDA, DEA, and other regulatory agencies have been taken over by a bunch of ideologues, prohibitionists who believe that opioids are sinful and that people who take opioids are sinners, who deserve to suffer. Many of these regulatory zealots pretend to care about people, but this is just a pretense. They really care only about power. They want to dictate what people can and cannot do, and they couldn't care less about causing pain. In fact, I believe that many of them actually enjoy the idea of causing others to suffer. This ongoing tragedy will end only when the ideologues are identified and driven out of their positions of power. Unfortunately this will take time, during which countless lives will be destroyed, families will be decimated, people will die.REPORT COMMENTS

I was ran over by a van in 2002. I suffered a fractured pelvis, broken right wrist, torn left rotator cuff, severe nerve damage on my left hip left leg and right leg(i was in a wheelchair for 6 months a walker for 3 more months). I have carpel tunnel in both my wrists. The right has had surgery FAILED. Before all that i was diagnosed with a bulging disk with arthritis that causes numbing and pain in both legs. I cannot lift anything from ground level that is over ten pounds. Without risking my back completely giving out. I suffer from chronic pain constantly even when i'm flat on my back. It took over 2 years at age 42-44 To finally find a doctor and receive an amount of pain med that would allow me to function and have a life that i could actually enjoy. 5 years i've been on the exact same amount of pain med Methadone. Never had a single issue passed my UA's pill counts everything they asked. 5 years of life with my pain managed not all. But enough so i could function. This all changed today 2/23/17 in Washington state. when they cut my meds by 1/3 instead of 2 every 8 hours 3 times a day down to 2 every 12 hours. Remember it was 2yrs of different meds and therapy to find a working pain relief. No warning no negotiating no nothing. The politicians say your not worthy to have a happy mostly pain free life anymore. All the years i had with back pain and then all the damaged caused from being run over. It was horrible. I finally get some help start living the minimal life i can have as disabled(thanks to being ran over i cannot work). All thrown out the window because some doctors are on a humanitarian crusade to save mostly drug abusers. People that have NOTHING! to do with me. All so they can feel good about themselves and preach to cameras how wonderful they are. Thanks your crusade will now make my life not worth living again. I'm so poor that moving to another state would take years for me to save enough to move. These rule makers from what i see arent trying to save life NO! there trying to save money. Since these rules punish medicare and medicaid patients mostly. I'm in shock i dont know what to do. Tomorrow i'll be resigned to bed. Accept for the couple hours which is all this amount of pain med will relieve. I've been through this so many times. I know what to expect. Even a surgeon said that i need to stay on this pain regiment. A year and a half ago. They wont do anything for my back until the disc burst. Pain clinics "nothing we can do stay with what your doing" There is no fix for me. Physical therapy made things worse. Got taken off that. Last 2 months i put on some weight my back has reacted. Pain increased told my doc. But did not ask for any increase. I didnt want to rock the boat. Well i didnt have too. My pain went up their answer "reduce pain med amount" WHY? because everyone has the exact same pain levels as everyone else. This BS science that we all suffer the same is just ********. Control your pain gate ever heard that one? ALL ********! tried it all doesnt work never will work for me FACT! We as americans and WA citizens must stand up against this. WA state is there testing grounds for F'N pain sufferers over. I need info is there any petitions in WA state i could sign or a court case i could become part of. If anyone knows please email me or post here. I need hope this will change soon. when i was younger i could deal with it or drink the pain away. I cant anymore my body is to worn out. I need to know things will change or i'll just cancel my ticket. I will not go through those years of misery again. NO way OMG! just talking about it depresses me. GIVE MY RIGHT TO BE MOSTLY PAIN FREE AND HAPPY BACK! I'm almost 50 very little terrifies me as much as this. Again anything relating to info on the fight against WA states hate against pain sufferers would help. Thank youREPORT COMMENTS

There is enough of us in America that we need to form a group and sue the D.E.A for practicing medicine without a licsense and for interfering with medical treatment. Not to mention discrimination causing pain and suffering which is cruelty and inhumane. How is this not infringement against the rights of Americans? If we don't change this now it will get worse it already has. The D.E.A has overstepped so has doctors and pharmacies this needs to stop now. We need to for a group not just to sue the D.E.A but to keep them in check to make sure this kind ******** stops. I have CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) which according to the McGill Pain Index is the worst pain a person can have. I had a car accident and as a result acquired this awful disease that I've had now for the past 25 years. I've been through unbelievable hell with it! It turned my life completely upside down. I had been working at a wonderful job for 12 years hoping to someday retire from it; I was very healthy; active in swimming, ice skating, skiing, etc. I prided myself on the fact that I did not smoke, drink (not even coffee) or take drugs. But this pain was relentless. From the start, I tried every medication from NSAID's, muscle relaxants, anti-seizure medications, certain anti-depressants for pain (cymbalta) but to no avail. I also had various procedures done including cortisone shots, epidural and sympathetic nerve blocks, spinal cord stimulator, tens unit; nerve conduction, etc. I had seen orthopedic doctors, neurologists, chiropractors, acupuncturists; engaged in physical therapy, aqua therapy, occupational therapy, biofeedback, etc., as well as go to pain management group therapy. But nothing helped in the least. However, after the doctors exhausted every means of trying to find adequate relief for this unbearable pain, they finally resorted to putting me on methadone. Believe me, it was a matter of life or death. Even the brain tumor that I had when I was 28 seemed small now in comparison to this unbelievable nerve pain that I had. I was at the point that I felt that I was losing my mind. I was sure that methadone too wouldn't touch this pain so I started thinking about the most difficult decision that I would ever have to make in my life which was that I was going to take my life. However, I was surprised to find that methadone did take the real edge off of this horrible pain. I still had a lot of pain where I wasn't able to work but I was able to do little things in trying to care for myself and have somewhat of a life. Then just recently my newest pain doctor informed me of a new law that was already in effect which was that doctors could no longer prescribe narcotic medication regardless of anyone's circumstances. I immediately started to cry and I thought I would never stop. I have a birthday coming up soon in which I will be turning 57. Immediately I said to myself, "this will be my last birthday!" I CANNOT LIVE WITH THIS PAIN!!! How is it that all of us who have been in horrible pain and who have been very responsible in following all the rules concerning being on opiates should suddenly be punished even after all we've sufferred on account of those who have misused and abused these so-needed medications for those of us in terrible pain? All I can say now is GOD HELP US ALL!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I've been on opiates for over 40 years now for very chronic pain. I have had 6 back surgeries . I have had dorsal column stimulators installed in my back, tens units, etc. All to no avail. My peripheral nerve pain is very severe. For years doctors have given me opiate pain medications as that is the only medication that helps me. It took them (for the most part the same team of doctor's) 5 years to adjust my pain meds to where they sufficiently work. I was even on a higher dose, and told them it was too high, so they lowered the dose. We were working together as a team. Now for the last 10-15 years my pain is now tolerable. I have had my same doctor now for over 15 years after I left he VA system. I do not doctor shop. I am very happy with him. Well I was until these last few months. Now when I go in to see him he tells me that they have done studies that show that opiates DO NOT HELP CHRONIC PAIN !!! He has been forcing me to cut back my dose almost every time I go to see him now. I feel that this is so unfair. I even told him that. I basically told him that for years he told me that opiates work very well for chronic pain. it makes me furious that they are basically calling me a liar now is what I feel, because I insist to him that opiates DO WORK for my chronic pain. He always brings up the CURRENT STUDIES that show they do not work. Bull Crap!! I hope more "LEGITIMATE" chronic pain sufferers will fight back against the DEA and the medical field and will start a "Large "CLASS ACTION" law suit to stop this before it gets too out of hand. I realize there are a lot of devious people out there that are not on legitimate pain and are ruining it for the legitimate sufferers. Now I am 65 years old where me body is getting older and my neuropathy is getting worse and have now developed arthritis. Now is when I could use the opiates more than ever. Doctor's should remember their 'HIPPOCRATIC OATH', and do not leave legitimate chronic pain sufferer's suffering more and more. It is our human right to not be in chronic pain if it can be prevented. I also hope the doctor's look at this and will fight the DEA on this. As I stated, the DEA can work side b y side with the medical field to go after the dealers and illegitimate user's of opiates. But for God sake, do not go after the serious chronic pain users. It's not fair. DO NOT PUT US IN A CLASS WITH THEM. IT'S NOT FAIR THAT WE SHOULD TAKE A STEP BACKWARDS AND THAT WE SHOULD GO BACK TO NOT TREATING CHRONIC PAIN. If this happens and they take away our much needed pain medication, I believe there will be more suicide rates and people in great depression and with no quality of life. I enjoy playing with my grandchildren and getting out and doing things and seriously having fun. But I truly will have no quality of life if all of my medication for pain is taken away. All of this just seems in a downward spiral. I realize we have a SERIOUS DRUG EPIDEMIC in this country. BUT THE SOLUTION IS NOT TO COMPLETELY ELIMINATE ALL OPIATES CAUSING SERIOUS HEALTH ISSUES FOR PEOPLE THAT HAVE TRUE CHRONIC PAIN. I DO TAKE LYRICA. THAT HELPS SOME, BUT NOT AS HEALTH OFFICIALS FEEL THAT IT IS A REPLACEMENT FOR OPIATES. IN MY CASE, I WAS ABLE TO LOWER MY DOSE OF OPIATES SOMEWHAT. THAT IS, IN COMBINATION WITH THE USEAGE OF LYRICA. BUT THERE IS NO WAY THAT THE LYRICA WILL TAKE AWAY MY SERIOUS PERIPHEAL NERVE PAIN CAUSED BY TRAUMA AND 6 BACK SURGERIES. BUT THE COMBINATION OF THE 2 MY PAIN IS MANAGED TO A DEGREE THAT I CAN FUNCTION AND ENJOY LIFE. SO PLEASE DO NOT TAKE AWAY THE MEDICATION THAT WORKS WELL FOR ME. DON'T PUNISH ME FOR WHAT OTHERS DO. THAT IS USE IT FOR PLEAUSE AND TO GET HIGH. IT JUST RELIEVES MY PAIN. I DON'T USE IT TO GET HIGH!! SO PLEASE LET THE 'DEA' AND THE MEDICAL FIELD NOT TO SERIOUSLY NOT PUNISH ME AND A LOT OF OTHERS OUT THERE THAT ARE IN LEGITIMATE CHRONIC PAIN.REPORT COMMENTS

This is absolutely rediculous and should not effect the legitimate Chronic Pain patients! As if we don't suffer enough every single day and night! The government doesn't know better then the Doctors who went to college for many years and took an oath and swore to uphold! Chronic pain is very real and literally turns your life into a living nightmare! That Chronic Pain nightmare can strike anyone... anywhere...at...anytime!!! Pain doesn't discriminate! Most chronic pain people I know including myself go through years of different therapies and try many different things first, pain medication is last option. Then you have to sign an opioid contract...if you don't follow the rules and take your prescription as prescribed, take random drug tests and pill counts...you are done! Plus the Doctor and nurses explain how to take the medication and any side effects to look out for! Only one Doctor can prescribe the medication and you can only go to one pharmacy! The Pharmacist consults with you about how to take the medication properly as well as side effects to be aware of...plus they give you a pamphlet full of information about the drug with every fill & refill. I was more then happy to comply with every rule and I thought it was a very good idea, because they knew we weren't abusing our prescriptions in any way, shape or form. None of this was supposed to effect the people that actually need the medication for chronic pain! For the life of me I can't imagine why this is happening to us! I can't believe that something isn't being done to protect the rights of so many people living in so much unbearable pain and that have been responsible with their pain medication! This is wrong on so many levels and is down right evil!REPORT COMMENTS

I'm 28, from central California. I've suffered from severe abdominal pain since age 21, which has snowballed into chronic pelvic pain disorder and benign prostatic hyperplasia. My major depression, anxiety and PTSD pour gasoline on the fiery pain I feel every day. Five of Seven days a week I am in physical and mental therapies, along with monthly visits to my Dr for oxy prescriptions. I've seen (and experienced myself) others in severe pain be ridiculed at my local CVS in front of strangers JUST trying to know why their meds can't be filled. Constant shortages in painkiller, along with being lied to about when they'll get more, has become the final nail in the coffin. A friend of mine who's a tech at the pharmacy began tearing up when I confessed just how much I pray for death when CVS (most of all, the DEA b@st @rds) forces me to go without for weeks. The days that I go in for refills are the worst days of my life, to the point of carrying valium and a knife in my pocket in case I have to cut to relieve the overwhelming stress when denied my medicine. I've lost all faith in God having any love or care for me. Pharmacists have convinced me that they want nothing but to see those suffering like me appear in the obituaries.REPORT COMMENTS

Good afternoon my name is Connie Hawkins and I suffer from spinal stenosis and Rheumatoid arthritis. I was prescribed Hydrocodon Acetaminophen aka Vicodin for the severe pain I endure on a daily basis. My primary care physician relocated to the county in which she lives because the commute is more convenient for her. However, the commute for me was not. They replaced her with another doctor who doesn't want to refill my prescription due to DEA regulations. The pain I endure cannot be described (there are just NO words). It's crippling to say the least. I have said multiple times I'd rather be shot in the head than to endure this pain. I currently go to pain management for my spinal stenosis aka sciatica and get the epidural shot; however, the epidural injections do NOTHING for my Rheumatoid arthritis which is why I need the Vicodin. I have no idea why OR HOW the DEA came up with the dumb idea of training doctors to NOT prescribe narcotics. I thought I could tolerate any type of pain until I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis. This arthritis roams (my elbows, my hands (knuckles), my ankle and it's just downright painful. I have contemplated suicide many times but I say over and over that is not an option. Something needs to be for about the DEA and their training of doctors. I feel there's no need for a physician if he cannot assist me with my pain. I've tried many medications over the counter and prescribed and they do not addresss my issues. The one medication that does help my pain and here it is that the DEA comes between that. How could they be so ruthless and heartless???REPORT COMMENTS

I am 64 and live atm in OH. I moved here from Boone, NC, because I could no longer live alone. I was on Fentanyl for the pain of FMS and CFS, and had been on it for 15, because I am allergic to everything you can make from the poppy. I did not get any pain meds for about 25 years, because it took over 20 years before there was a name for what I had. I went the first of the new type of pain clinic in NC, when my doctor was being hassled by the DEA (he was cleared). I was so angry after the one visit I came back and told my doctor I would never go there again. I asked the woman at this new pain clinic why they were treating me like I was guilty. She explained that in their eyes, everyone was guilty, they just hadn't caught them yet. And this was when they were new. You can get in trouble for not taking as many meds as the bottle says, regardless of whether you needed them or not. If you don't, and you leave the extras in the bottle, then you are planning on selling them. If you use too many, then you sold them or you are an addict. Why would anyone who was innocent of doing these things want to put up with being treated this way because they are in pain? When I got to OH, I was relatively pain-free and had been slowly going down on my fentanyl dosage because I was learning to use my mind to control my pain. Then I start trying to find a doctor in OH who will continue my treatment. I have my records and even a letter from my last doctor. What I'm told is that they are using these new pain clinics.. (yes, the ones they copied from the original I so enjoyed in Lenoir county NC) and if I want my meds, I have to go there every month. And I said no! If I didn't also have a thyroid problem, I would have told the med community in OH to kiss my a**. I have no record, I have never been in trouble with any of my doctors for any of my meds. Thank god I managed to learn enough pain control to not quite lose my mind. But I'm extremely limited in what I can do, practicaly bed-ridden and most definitely house-bound because I am still a rank beginner at this mind control. What happened to that contract between doctor and patient? I kept every contract with every doctor, and because I move to a new state to live with my son, I deserve to either be treated like a criminal in order to get my meds or have no quality of life while I try to do without? Every doctor I saw here acted as though these pain clinics are so fantastic when what they are, are criminal detection centers. Great, you have problem patients, maybe discuss sending them there. But to send ordinary honest and sick men, women and children to these places is disgusting. I only hope if they can't be gotten rid of, then those people whose ideas they were should be forced to go to them. However, I've never heard of doctors, nurses, the rich or famous having no choice but these places.REPORT COMMENTS

Patients have many health issues that cause severe pain and are not recognized as having the need for pain medications. Like my young relative that suffers from severe eczema called atopic dermatitis and psoriatic arthritis that is so severe it is life changing and leads to the inability to keep jobs because of the sick days taken to combat these conditions, The physicians look at these patients suffering, know they are in pain yet do not prescribe pain medications for them. Pain medications are given to patients that are in pain in order to help the patient cope with pain which might also lead to fewer sick days at work and would help these patients keep their jobs and support themselves financially. They deserve the dignity that comes from being able to work and support yourself and your family. Chronic pain is a difficult concept to understand if you so not suffer from it, nor see any of your family suffer from pain. Let's give physicians the ability to prescribe pain medication appropriately to patients with chronic pain and decrease the fear and stigma of being labeled a physician that over prescribes pain meds for no good reason. Your patients are suffering needlessly from your fear. They deserve more relief from pain that is genuine.REPORT COMMENTS
