How has it come to be that the government is now telling doctor's how to treat patients? How about the regulations in the drs authority that says a physician MUST treat chronic pain patients and this treatment CAN include controlled substances....Under that which is not of abuse. Look it up people. Each state has a medical board and it sets regulations for physicians practice. It is specific for chronic pain. There are ways to maintain care and assure that patients are doing the right thing under their medication. Signing a contract that states you will take monthly drug test to assure you are medicating right. Let's look at alcohol and tobacco. Long known the disease of alcoholism and the health issues both DRUGS cause. But....These both bring in millions of dollars in revenue for our government. They will be legal till the end of time....No matter the detriment they cause. I do wish each and every person who had a hand in this passing finds themselves in pain....And no where to turn. You look at those vetrens who have fought and lost limbs, shattered bones, multiple surgeries and live in PAIN. Take the people like me who have worked in a factory and have stood and walked years on concrete, ruining their backs, legs, feet. I have multiple bulging disc, facet joint arthritis in spine and neck, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis in neck, back, knee and feet, plantar fasciitis, 80% joint space loss in knee, torn hip muscle, SI joint dysfunction, sciatica. Due to multiple steroids to help with all these issues I developed Cushing's Syndrome that added an extra 60lbs to my body, making my knee worse and causing multiple stress fractures in foot. All this at 42. So tell me Congress how you are controlling drug abuse by taking away the meds that do help. My doctor has had my meds under control, talking with me each month and has been in practice over 30 yrs. He told me last month he is going to start weening me down.....Because of the Feds pressure on doctor's. What are you doing about the illegal drugs? What about the drugs coming from Mexico, China, South America? What type of epidemic do you think is coming with ppl being bedboud, more nursing home cost for those who can no longer care for themselves that once could function. Suicide is running rampant amoung Vets and civilians alike due to the intolerable pain and the emotional need to take the burden off family. Is this a ploy to actually reduce the population by auicide? Are you TRYING to cut YOUR cost on healthcare by having society KILL THEMSELVES OFF?? Maybe!

I can relate to this issue as my meds have been cut back 70 % and I feel like all of a sudden I'm an adict after 20 years of gradual increase as one of my conditions is progrssive and over time you build tollerance to meds. I know many people who unfortunetly have turned to street drugs But I refuse to do that,so I have had my quality of life reduced horribly and feel like a burden to family and friends now. So all the DEA has done is destroyed the well being of many people while the addicts just go to their sreet dealers. It has caused me great depression and the loss of hope for the future living in pain.

I agree with this article completely. I had four sline surgeries, have a severe hetiation below and above the rod, stenosis and dislocation of one vertabrae. My doctor was great he titrated over years to the point which took to get my quality of life back and even work part and enjoymy kids. 100 mcg patch every 2 days. Abd dilaudid 12 mg every 4.6 hours this did bot take all my pain away but kept ne at 3/10 wbich was great i still had 3 or so bad nervepain days but usually from overdoing or lifting too much. Now in pain management took me 2mgdilaudid. Every 6 hours in 6 weeks titration which dont do anything and next taking away patches back to the bed i guess my kids get to suffer to watch dad shrivel away. Already cant pee. Poop or have relations with wife due to the injury. My family is very worried for my future.

I had surgery on 1/13. I was given 20 Norco. I'm in pain, they refuse to prescribe me anything. Told me to take OTC stuff. I only want the person in charge of this to have debilitating pain for a few days. That seems completely fair. Then maybe you'll understand instead of lining your pockets. I need a kidney transplant, too. Will I be able to recover? Think.

I had surgery two days ago. Number seven on my left upper arm. They don't prescribe many pain meds because of the government. I'm in pain. Many are in pain. They are turning to heroin. Me? I'll just social justice you. It's straight up bs. Michigan.

Our looser govoner has done the five day supply for opates also how will this work for long term chronic pain patients. I'm a 63 year old man who has not smoked dope never liked the tired feeling. The last time I saw my pain doctor he asked if I wanted a marajua card. So now I can get stoned legal but I can't take any narcotics that do not alter my state of mind like the marajua

Pain warriors, If you think it's bad now, its going to get much worse, please go to painnewsnetwork.org, they report the truth and what is happening for the pain community. If you are on medicare/medicaid, they are going to further deny paying for pain medications for the chronically ill or any pain pt for that matter. Pharmacies are being given the right to "screen for drug seeking behaviors" when u go to fill your LEGAL NARCOTIC PAIN MEDS, regardless of how long you have been with that pharmacy, they are being given the right to deny and flag you as an addict, without even knowing your medical records or what debilitating incurable diseases you are suffering from, Please go to the sight i stated for all the horrific details, Here in NJ, our scumbag governor has put an emergency order in for prescription opiods to be lessened to just a 3 to 5 day supply, and for those of us who suffer from long term chronic intractable pain for conditions there is no cure for, he wants our lifesaving pain medication stopped, Gov Christie has teamed up with Kolodny, for those who dont know who he is, he is an anti opiod addiction dr who owns all the phoenix house detox ctrs nationwide and was a key player in the barbaric CDC guidelines that were created by using FALSE STATISTICS, AND CHERRY PICKED DATA THAT HOLD NO TRUTH TO WHAT THEY ARE CLAIMING. Gov. Christie is determined to see to it that opiods are stopped for those of us who require them for the rest of our lives, unless of course cures are made. The corrupt governments and their sidekicks have created a full blown attack on our drs and legit pain pts, please reference doctorsofcourage.org, where you will read about all the many drs being shut down by the DEA , who are being falsely accused of overprescribing, taking everything they worked so hard for, and leaving the pain pts abandoned by the medical community. If your dr is one who is being targeted and you are left with trying to find a new dr, good luck to you, because even just having the previous drs name attached to your files, you will be considered a drug seeker and dr shopper and be for ed to exist in a torturous hell. The government is committing GENOCIDE thruout the pain community and what bothers me is not one news outlet on tv cares to even report on our behalves. Take a good look at all the politicians, many up in age, I would bet my life on it that there are many thruout the corrupt government who require opiods to sustain a QOL, or their loved ones do, but you see none of these BARBARIC AND INHUMANE rules apply to them, their drs and pharmacies are on speed dial. I urge you all to join as many pain support groups on facebook just search chronic pain and many come up. Many groups are working together to fight back, I wholeheartedly believe the governments plan is to kill off the chronically ill, and it's happening. Under the painnewsnetwork.org site there are many articles about those who took their life, so sad. I just read about a 58 yr old man who served this dam country, and suffered from many debilitating incurable diseases, he was turned away by drs, left with nowhere to go and put a bullet to his head, leaving a suicide note stating "the whitecoats dont care " and how he could not get help anywhere. This is horrifying. More and more are taking their lives to end the pain. As for myself, I am about to become homeless, its just me and my son, social security barely covers the rent and utilities,,let alone food or clothes my son may need. Before Christmas my acct was hacked and what money I had in there for rent was taken. My account was drained and the scum who did it even put me in the negative by 900, as my bank allows me to go negative up to a certain point. Now I am fighting with the bank to try and get money back but its not happening, I cant pay the rent for January, when my social security comes next week, half of it will be covering the negative amt, i wont even have money to pay the rent. I barely have food in the cabinets, and on top of the severe pain I exist in, im ready myself to end it, Ill be evicted and me and my son will be left with nowhere to go. I am terrified of whats to come. My dr appt is monday and i have been having anxiety/panic attacks and finding it hard to even breathe most times. Im so sick and tired of being jabbed with needles monthly , of being degraded by my dr of five years who had no problems writing scripts for four out of the five years, who knew that i benefited from the medications i use to take, but has hopped on the antiopiod train, abandoning me each month more and more, Screw all of you running this country, I hope you all burn in hell , but before you burn in hell, i hope you are out thru a slow torturous hell , i hope your bodies are going to be ravaged with pain, pain so bad you will want to put a bullet to your heads to end it. God help us all, Its all a out the money folks, and who wipes whose a$$

I suffer from palmar-plantar psoriasis and the accompanying and debilitating psoriatic arthritis. The insurance company will not pay for Embrel or any of the biological medications that will control this situation--I had reactions to methotrexate so that was out. The pain of walking on feet with no skin on the bottoms AND the accompanying crippling arthritis is tremendous. This is not a "give you a shot in the back" kind of pain and no pain management doctor I have seen thus far has offered anything but shots. They have labelled me a "shopper"...I am a senior citizen now relegated to a walker because I can no longer walk normally due to pain. I have lost my quality of life because doctors are afraid to let me have a percoset twice a day...

I was dropped by my pain docter because I changed my mind about getting a spinal cord stimalater. My son had one and it didnt work. When I backed out on getting the spinal cord stimalater Dr Le my pain docter dropped me.My life has got really bad since then. I went to CPS where my docter sent me. So CPS docter sends me back to my primary care docter and his nurse chews me out saying I was looking for drugs. I have been slandered and shamed by my docters nurse in his waiting room. Now I have no pain docter or a primary care docter. There should be laws about how they treat disabled people.

I have been on Opioids for many years due to a spinal injury. Due to the new guidelines I was taken off opioids which resulted in developing a thyroid disorder called Graves? disease. with chronic stress, hypertension, renal disease, shingles, postherpetic neuralgia, heart palpitation, bradycardia, heat intolerance, loss of weight etc. I have spent thousands $$ in several pain management centers for treatments, including Epidural steroid injections, Nerve root blocks, NSAIDs, Gabapentin, pregabalin, Antidepressants, Anti-seizure medications for neuropathic pain, Muscle relaxants, aqua therapy, bio feedback, Tens unit, Massage, spinal adjustment, yoga, acupuncture, Cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy. I am still in constant pain and bed ridden. Extended release opiates gave me mobility and freedom from my disability. See: Abstaining Opioid Drugs as a Possible Risk Factor for Graves' disease

I'm in total agreement. Had one neurologist for 20+ years and previously it was neurosurgeon for 4+ years. No history of drug seeking behavior. But BECAUSE of new regulations, I can not get treatment. Do ALL legitimate chronic pain sufferers have to forfeit successful treatment because someONE else abuses prescription meds?

I am an NP that started treating pain due to the misinformation and inadequate care (I mainly was given hydrocodone) that I received after a severe accident that damaged my lower lumbar spine. I personally did a lot of research on my own and developed a plan that reduced and continues to reduce my pain and symptoms enough for me to work full time and only rarely take ibuprofen for increased pain. I have and continue to educate everyone of my patients on this "plan" that I developed (not altruistically) and many of them continue to show as great results as I continue to show. Many have been able to stop narcotic pain medications or greatly reduce their usage. In my experience with patients, the majority of people just want to reduce their pain and continue to work, function and enjoy life once in awhile and they would rather NOT take pain medications at all as they would much prefer to NOT be in pain.

My story is and long hard and tragic, being in severe pain not on,y effects me, my children, my marriage, my community, and our country. After all the chronic pain suffers finally able to return to work due to pain bing met by medication they will now be back on disability. I'm currently disabled after a near fatal car accident in 2014. I wish I could be pain free enough to even think about working again, spending my days bed ridden while my Dr's continue to take down my pain medications is just sick. I don't know how they do it. I know why, FEAR. Please I'm begging our government to hear us before its to late and we take our lives due to the pain being so sever. Look at the true statistics, dig for truth, get good Dr's on the board to balance dibilating debases that are life long to be exceptions in the guidelines. Stop arresting our Drs.

Hell lo I'm a 64yr old male and have severe ankylosing spondylitis. My pain started when I was 29. My doc at the time kept telling me I had muscle spasms. I was young and kept working in dispite terrible pain in the back hips and legs. He ibuprofen no relief. By the time I turned 40 I could no longer do my job. I could go on forever about the pain I live with. I have been to those pain clinics for the shots and doctors sticking a neddle to bone my spine because I have no disk left my spine is just bone. Trying to make this as short as possible. I've been on the same dosage of pain meds go 12 yrs they do nothing but keep me from getting sick and I can't get a doctor to help me. 6 months ago I went to the ER and was treated like trash still in extreme pain the next night went back to the ER was treated like trash. That Sunday morning I took a loaded gun and put it to my head didn't have the guts to relieve the pain but I'm afraid it's coming to that. I can't get any relief from it. Lid give me one day without pain. I just want to know what it would be like. I wouldn't wish this disease on anybody. PS yes I've tried humira at 4000.00 dollars a month a waste of time over a year and Medicare money. Can barely move to leave my house. Somebody do SOMETHING

I suffer from chronic pain due to rheumatoid arthritis, neck and back injuries from car accidents and breast and thyroid cancer. My doctor decided to stop prescribing me pain meds leaving me in constant pain. My husband has stage 4 head and neck cancer and although he is finally in remission has chronic pain. No pain meds for him either. Thanks to the government

I could tell my story, but is so similar to so many others. I live in daily debilitating pain, and the DEA likes to pretend they are MD's with 12 years of Medical School, specializing in the practice of "Pain Management". They think they know how much Pain Medicine works for every patient in the USA. We are being grouped into to the same "Bucket" as Heroin Addicts. To become a Physician in these great United States, Doctors must swear to the "Hippocratic Oath", which states : "The Hippocratic Oath is an oath historically taken by Physicians. It is one of the most widely known of Greek medical texts. In its original form, it requires a new Physician to swear, by a number of healing gods, to uphold specific ethical standards. Of historic and traditional value, the oath is considered a rite of passage for practitioners of medicine in many countries, although nowadays various modernized versions are often used; the message delivered is still the same, "DO NO HARM"...!!!! THE DEA IS FORCING GOOD PHYSICIANS TO BREAK THEIR "HIPPOCRATIC OATH", by forcing them to NOT treat their patients to the best of their knowledge and ability. This is Devastating, and Inhumane, and the Congress of these great United States needs to understand what is happening to so many good, law abiding people, and correct this holocaust of "Grave Human Injustice".

This just happened to me on Friday. I went in a few days early and my oncologist approve the pick up because he knows I run out early but he refuses to up my medication. He has always told me if I am in pain take my medication If I run out, then I run out. He will order more. The pharmasist started complaining that the DNA is watching everyone and they could get in trouble. She gave me a big talking to. I suffer extreme pain all day and night This is the same pharmasist who only months ago said she has no problem writing them early for her oncology patients. Now suddenly she does The outpatient pharmacies on the main flooreason of the VA will yell at me and totally embarrass me in front of 50 people waiting for their meds. They make me look like a seeker and a fiend. I am now going to pain clinic this month and hope they are able to better help me. But from what I hear they are cutting people out of pain meds. I have tried PT, tens units, neuro psych, neuropathy medication, non narcotic pain meds ( feels like I'm taking a Tylenol). It has done nothing. My nerves are damaged and I feel like I am on fire. I also have deep vein damage from ankle to groin and I get cramp pains that feel like I have those terrible leg cramps, but mine last for hours. I am being honest when I say I would rather be dead than suffer the full effect of my pain issues. The government is just getting to nosey and lingering in everyone's problems. Lawmakers are issuing new laws and these chums have probably never had to live in any amount of true pain.
