I don't give a rat's behind about your sons or daughters who are dying from opioids... because THAT is EXACTLY why us seniors cannot get the pain relief and quality of life that we deserve. Numbers are wrongly calculated. They say approx 1100 died in TN from opiate OD last year, yet at least 1/2 of those people were on other drugs, drinking, etc. so the real figure is closer to 200 I'd guess. So, if 200 people have to die, so that millions can get the pain relief they deserve, it is definitely worth it. Opiates are the best thing God gave us for chronic pain right now, and we should use themREPORT COMMENTS

why mess with someone who is doing so well under a Dr. care, and put them in a clinic around thousands of drug addicts that are not there for recovery, and putting people that take their medication perfectly as prescribed and are living life for the first time in recovery and punish them like they are doing something wrong. It seems the people making these rules have never experienced first hand addiction, well they should know it does not discriminate and they may have a daughter, son, grandchild, spouse, themselves even expierence these awful feelings and their minds may change.REPORT COMMENTS

I wish there was a way to get it documented to the DEA/CDC that when a person suffering from so many medical conditions that cause no joy in life unless you are able to find a stable form of medications to help you cope with chronic pain and generalized anxiety to name a few just as a diabetic needs insulin to function normally. Then you begin to live again and BOOM you are throwed back to square one to begin getting stable again because they make rules from behind a desk and not with patients in front of them, I feel its greed to regulate money and use addiction or ailments as peoples weakness, ther has to become patient rights to not have to be treated by their past files and by the way they are reacting to current treatment they are getting.REPORT COMMENTS

I think there should be more petitions to show the DEA/CDC that there are people that can live a more productive life with pain meds than without. I am one of them. I have had chronic pain for 15 years and I was always determined to work to support my family, as a single mom. I didn't want to go on disability and be a burden to anyone. But now I may not have a choice. Without pain meds to help me be able to function and have quality of life I see myself on disability and public assistance for the rest of my life, which could be another 40-50 years. The more my Dr tries to ween me off what works for me the less I can do. I think it should be left to the Dr as long as they have records of what is wrong, that the treatment is giving the patient a better life and that the patient doesn't abuse what they get. I'm sure most people who are on pain meds and have a better life would agree. Our government scaring Drs out there trying to help should be against the law. I don't know what I'm going to do because as my dose gets lower I won't be able to work and I still have one child at home. Any suggestions?REPORT COMMENTS

My Dr. Worked to help me get me as close to the point of physical functioning that i was before i got hurt. Now she is being forced to lower my meds and has taken the secondary med i take only when the pain is at its worse altogether. My only hope is to get on the extended release version of my primary med if i want to keep taking it, but it costs 600$ a month. Last week i lost my job because i couldn't look at a computer screen for longer than an hr without my neck and head pounding. These meds keep me mobile. The CDC keeps pumping out these statistical overdose reports but theyre inaccurate because they are not separating the two groups who take opiate meds, the patients who need them vs. The ones who use them as a drug. I want the federal govt to stay the hell out of my medical file.REPORT COMMENTS

Current Doctors to do not to be properly trained in treating Chronic Pain Patients. This is unacceptable. In addition both the CDC and the DEA seem to think it is perfectly ok to bully Dr's who do try to treat Chronic Pain Patients as criminals. While there is an opioid problem, those who need pain meds to function are being mislabeled as drug addicts. We are not taking the meds to get High. Most of us need them to partially try to function, it is a serious quality of life issue for many of us.REPORT COMMENTS

For the past decade with help from my doctor I have been a productive useful and relatively happy human being until just recently when new laws have apparently takenmy right to be able to function and not suffer every day away. It took us over a year to find the right combination of pain meds so that I could get out of bed and perform all the chores that needed to be done so I could continue to live the way I have lived for the past 30 years. I was also well I'm off to occasionally go places and do things with my family thanks to the medications that are unfortunately coveted by people who don't need them and as a result these new laws have essentially taking my life as I know it away from me. I used to believe that in this country "the land of the free" that this kind of thing could never happen, however as I lay here in bed instead of doing the hundreds of different things used to be able to do I now know differently. These laws that limit life restoring medications are a crime against humanity and the opiate addiction crisis must be dealt with another way!REPORT COMMENTS

Just four years ago I still led a pretty active life even though I had all these health problems. Now I am basically a shut in and get maybe an hour of activity. For a guy who use to camp and fish, now I can barely stand for 20 minutes. I'm so angry that my life has been stolen from me that it keeps me up at night! I am a 44 year old black woman and I came across the website. I am so grateful for the stories that have been shared. My decline started a year and a half before my spinal fusion surgery lumbar 4-sacral 1 transforminal lumbar interbody fusion. I knew something was wrong but I continued to work and I was prescribed oxycodone. The surgery was on 4/13/15. The surgery was necessary to prevent paralysis which was already beginning and pain to the point of crying all night in a fetal position. I can recall days where I crawled like a dog around my apartment. This is a nightmare to wake up every day in pain. I am a shell of what I once was. No social life. I am emotionally, mentally, and physically tired of this life. This new ?war on drugs? that the media is pushing is insanity. It was funny when the name was ?hillbilly heroin? in West Virginia because of the widespread abuse now that state has the highest rate of heroin overdose, abuse, death? The surgery did not guarantee pain relief but I could not imagine this would be my life. ?Talk Therapy?4 pain? How when you can?t even drive. I did PT then got bilateral epidural steroid injections and they could not get under the rods and pins and I declined to the point where I couldn?t even take care of myself. Then they went into CYA mode because of the mistake. I have been talked to like a child. The abusers and they include members of the health care community and the rich kids that popped pills for fun have ruined it. Now they want to cater to addicts, no jail, help because they have a disease of addiction. People with serious physical impairments that just want quality of life, NOTHING!!!!Speak up and they red flag you, label you an addict and show you the door. Why do they even bother to ask you to rate your pain from 1-10 when it is better to describe it. The pain scale is when this nightmare of over prescribing began. I only take oxycodone 10mg 3 times per day with Lyrica (which cost $562 per month) if u don?t have insurance. It brings the pain down to a 6 or 7 (still ice and icy hot at least 3- 5 times a day)and that will be stopped this month. In 25 days I will be back in hell. I got a degree after leaving an abusive marriage and jobs lined up that I cannot take because of this! $34 an hour I am missing, savings gone while I sit here every day and watch my dreams fade away. THE PAIN HAS TO BE CONTROLLED SO THAT I CAN GET BACK TO EARNING AN INCOME TO HELP PAY FOR COLLEGE. EVERYBODY IS PLAYING GOD AND YOU SUFFER WHILE HEALTHY PEOPLE MAKE THE LAWS. Every month ( so they can get more money, co-pays U drag into a doctor?s office to be treated like a criminal, while the real criminals have created a black market. Pain management doctors don?t take Medicaid and really don?t exist in Richmond, Virginia unless you pay cash. Things like going to a movie, a concert I can?t do anymore. To make matters worse doctors are trying meds like Neurontin, Baclofen, Cymbalta and Ibuprofen in combination which resulted in my kidneys failing, because they don?t want to prescribe an opiate now which works better in a low dose with less side effects. I could write a book but there is a problem when we live in a country where people care more about the right to own a gun than the right of people not to suffer! People in Physcial Pain are treated like criminals. Even animals are shot and put out of their misery. I am in such pain as I write this and have no idea what to do, and my daughter just wants her old mom back. It breaks my heart, she will graduate this year and be off to college and then I will be alone still suffering.REPORT COMMENTS

I was not in that pain left side crying in HELL pain ! I had some quality of life back still have pain but not pain where you feel like why live !!! So here we are they are doing this with no concern , why have they not made something by now to take the place I'm not an abuser , I don't give my meds. anyway like I have been reading People that are doing this I know never had this pain. No compassion at all , Someone on my face Book told me he was at his Doc's today and he said to him I do not deal with people on pain meds. he put her on them!!! I told her to sue him try !!!!!!!I don't know what will happen but I think there are going to be a lot of deaths , This pain is just to much to bear. And they don't care , I hope someday they who every is passing this all of them get , this pain for a year or two. Sorry that's the way I feel now. They are going to make things much worse! I know I will be going back to having no life I don't have my mother anymore to help me in the shower, or put me down on the toilet ,yes that's how bad it was without the meds. I'm afraid, very afraid. What is going to become of me ???? Its been a hell of a battle and I have to go back to that? I don't like being called a drug addict, I'm not I'am depended .Just to get out of bed myself was a beautiful thing . I thank God I had sometime to have some low pain, not HELL pain even just for a while ! I can't believe we have heartless people running the U.S but we do ! Kids will go to the smoke sorte still , get their Bath Salts , And the Marines at Fort Pentyl will go there to I seen it on T.V they use what don't show in urine test . And it will go on and on ! They will try to get high on anything kids today! I think this is going to backfire very bad ! people can't live in pain like this .I for one. I'm so upset that the little bit of life I found is now going to be taken away!! Thank You all Mr. Trump all who make the LAWS ! And to do this with not back up just live in pain people !!!!! I do see no one has been in this kind of pain, or a wife , family member or they would be helping them I'm sure of that ! Very unkind!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Arthritis is a painful condition and for many years I was responsible with the medication that I use to get. I understand the dangers with prescriptions. All I wanted was relief to live a normal life. What I use to get didn't kill the pain but dulled it and allowed me to get out and moving. If a doctor is intimidated by DEA he is guilty and it is wrong to say he is not going to prescribe pain medication to some one in pain. Who is he to say he knows how you feel? He should give required dosage and treatment for problem. If he can not figure it out, give a referral this includes phycatric and addiction referral. It is the fear of past negligence that is issue in hospitals and doctor offices that is causing fear among them giving pain meds. They have been drug dealers and for profit not caring about what harm they caused. They knew the risk and rewards of prescribing controlled substance and it is only because of celebrity deaths and awareness that made them be pro active and do damage control. There already was policy`s regarding prescribing opiates. They just have a ego that they are above all and just because you say you wont cause harm does not mean you wont. Times are changing and medical field is #1 issue in this country that is important and necessary to us all. Reform is needed and a revaluation in care needed. You need to be sure your doctor knows he works for you, You do not work for him. I do not like being prescribed medication that is unsafe and not useful for me. I hate that people have been given unnecessary drugs that made them become drug addicts and think it is ok to label people users. I have more respect for street dealers. And as far as DEA, why the hell is it okay to use drug addicts to provide information for other dealers for lesser or no charge and not do this for prescribed drugs. Oh wait that is why doctors and hospital are using the just say no to prescribing drugs, They can not police the policy the allowed without eliminating it completely. That is awkward and obvious. Profits are down and public is up and people will be safer, But we need to handle the discrimination and under treatment of pain in patients.REPORT COMMENTS

My father, an 81 year old man with Parkinson's has been living with chronic leg pain~ in both legs~ for past four to five years. On Sunday, Super Bowl Sunday, the pain in my dads legs became too much to bear. Taking him to the hospital would'nt have done him any good. Been here done that about five or six years ago. They just said there's nothing they can do; sent him home and told him to follow up with his doctor. Anyway... The following day, I called his doctor~ who btw is very well aware of my dads pain~ to ask if he would prescribe my dad some medication to help eliminate the suffering. Worse case scenario, I thought I would have to bring my dad into his doctors office to be checked out even though my father was recently seen by him and seen on a regular basis. I thought wrong. This doctor not only refused to prescribe my father any pain medication, his office further stated the doctor doesn't like getting into the 'Habit' of prescribing such meds; Doesn't want to get into the habit? During the last four years, My father has NEVER asked this doctor to prescribe him any pain medication! He's neurologist who specializes in Parkinson's for Pete's sake! And's he refusing to prescribe pain meds to an elderly patients who has a disease that cause great pain? This should be inexcusable. Doctors took an oath to do what is best for the patient. Knowing an 80 year old man is suffering and refuses to help is unjustifiable and sinister at best. NO ONE especially the elderly should have to suffer in pain! It is SADISTIC behavior for a doctor to force an elderly man to endure horrific pain when he knows there's a medication that will end his suffering. ESPECIALLY when the patient is not " in the habit' of requesting pain medication.REPORT COMMENTS
