Everything Howell N Jersey said is true. Here in this area a man who had cancer and could have been treated with good outcome because it was in the early stages. His doc said he was fine. Half year later he was told he had cancer. And he had a short time to live. I knew he had some form of cancer but the doc says go home your fine. They told him he had cancer only when it was to late to treat him. He himself did not understand why the doc was not interested in the bruising on the skin, the constant coughing and loss of weight. He was my brother. I am sure the med records will not show any of the systems that was with him. If you have an emergency in this area and you need help and it requires pain meds...forget it. In fact when calling offices and you mention the word pain, they want nothing to do with you. My mother had broken her hip and it took a 5 or so days before i found a doctor that would treat the pain. And she did suffer. The first 3 or 4 doctors i took her to gave her sugar pills that were supposed to be vicoden. Even looks and id the same. This non treatment seems to be the retired, disabled and so on. The working ones seems to get treated from what i have understood, at least in this area. Myself they still refuse to treat. Not unless i take there poisons that they swear that works. New Jersey, i know where coming from. Sorry to hear another falling into grips of this living nightmare that seems to go unobserved. As for what kind of human being can do these things with full intent on harm w/o treatment.....I can only speculate. From what i have been told it will get worse if you can imagine that. My brother was a retired air force and mother is spouse of retired army. And played by the rules. Makes no worldly since -

How do you murderers in congress justify the INTENTIONAL ABUSE, NEGLECT, MISTREATMENT AND DISCRIMINATION against LEGITIMATE CHRONIC INTRACTABLE PAIN SUFFERERS!? Here's a start: You have the CDC use FALSE data when recording the overdose deathrate, DOUBLING AND TRIPLING one persons death (CDC admits to this) , You have the CDC lump anyone and everyone with opiods in their system as a prescription pill death, If death was due to heroin, You have the CDC list it as a prescription pill death, if alcohol played a role, you tell the CDC to look the other way, If the drugs were obtained ILLEGALLY from the streets, you have the CDC list it as a prescription pill death (alot easier for you to go after our doctors right) If there were illicit street drugs involved, you tell the CDC to list it as prescription pill death, If the patient committed suicide DUE TO INADEQUATE PAIN RELIEF, you have the CDC list it as a prescription pill death. You are all CRIMINALS! There is no prescription pill epidemic. Had those deaths been properly recorded, our doctors would not be to blame. YOU ALL ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE HEROIN EPIDEMIC. How about the horrific mistreatment one receives going to an ER Here are just a few examples: ?My sister had Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS/RSD), went to 3 different hospitals was treated the same way. Finally she got a doctor that did his job, only to find out she had stage 4 cancer. She died less than 2 months from the time she got diagnosed,? wrote Melissa. ?My 13 year old daughter went in with chest pain and they told me she was having an anxiety attack. They did nothing. Two days later we found out from the children's hospital that she had a hole in her heart and could have died. ER doctors are the absolute dumbest, cruelest people I have ever met,? said Shannon. ?I used to work in an ER. Patient came in with tremors, talked of pain. She was quickly diagnosed as a pregnant drug addict who received no care and was sent home,? wrote another reader anonymously. ?Two days later her husband brought her back demanding treatment. Doctor wanted to put her into rehab when she went into labor along with seizures. It wasn't drugs it was meningitis. She and the baby BOTH died.? You are all MURDERERS! I dont need to send examples of the discrimination and negkect we are receiving from doctors and pharmacists, its all on this petition. THIS IS CRUEL, BARBARIC, INHUMANE AND TORTURE WHAT YOU ARE DOING. I hope you all will endure horrific pain, pain so bad you will wish you were deadREPORT COMMENTS

If this law passes, it will make those of us that are in a great deal of pain much harder to get the relief we need to live a somewhat normal life. This makes me incredibly angry! I have Multiple Sclerosis and I'm in severe pain every day of my life! Some days I can't even function. Some days all I do is cry it hurts so bad. There's got to be a better solution to target the junkies. Not the ones that are just trying to get some relief to live a normal life. I can guess that if this does pass, you'll have people now resorting to trying to get relief illegally due to what you've now done. And another hurdle we have to jump thru. This is insane. You will be making a huge mistake. Please don't pass this law! I'm begging you!!REPORT COMMENTS

I am fairly young (54). I suffer from chronic pain; I have two diseases. One disease is causing my connective tissue to turn to bone. There is no cure; I have suffered sometimes extreme pain from this disease for 10 years. In an effort to have some quality of life from this disease, I have used narcotic medication for quite some time. This medication has enabled me to somewhat enjoy my life, to continue working full time, and to pay my taxes. The second disease I have is a rare blood cancer called myelofibrosis. I have less than one year to live. I am in constant pain; the pain is simply terrible. With the new laws in place, not only am I made to feel like a drug addict when I simply attempt to refill my prescriptions, but I now have to visit the doctor every 30 days; I have to get a paper prescription; I have to go to a pharmacy, who may or may not have this in stock. Let me do some quick math for you. What used to take perhaps 15 minutes to get a renewal for my medication now takes 5 hours of my time. Let's assume I have 8 months to live. 8 months. 5 hours per month. That's a week. You have taken a week out of my 7 months with this. Not to mention there are times when no pharmacies within a reasonable driving distance have it in stock, and I have to wait, in agony, for days. Or when the pharmacy has 58 tablets, and my prescription is for 60 - they can't give me 58 tablets, and let me come back for the last 2. By law, the pharmacy has to give me 60 tablets. So I have to wait for the order to be filled. With 7 months left to live, let's talk about travel: I'd like to see some of my "great" country. But I have to plan around my renewal dates. Because, by law, a prescription written in Ohio can't be filled in Pennsylvania, let alone in Utah. Oh, and even though this is the case, I can't ask for a special consideration because I will be out of town: those considerations only apply for international travel. Lastly: what happens to me in say 6 months, when I can no longer function well enough to drive? How do I get my refills then? Or should I take the same view all of the legislators take, and just keep driving, and if I happen to get in a traffic accident, hey, I drive a big truck: I'll probably be ok, the other person? Who cares, it's not me.REPORT COMMENTS

I've been suffering low back pain for about 9 years. I fell down a flight of stairs covered in ice and snow. The Doctors I've seen say I need a two level spinal fusion but two of them are telling me that there is a better chance of me being worse off than I am now. I've talked with several people that have had this same fusion done and they tell me don't do it cause the pain is worse after. I've had had several injections and the nerve ends burnt, I've had manipulation and nothing has helped except pain medication. When seeing all of these doctors, they were telling me I was on to much pain medication. After 4 doctors tell me this I went to my prescribing Doctor and told him to start backing me off of the pain medication. Once I got down to where I couldn't deal with the pain, he kept me at that dosage and I dealt with it. Now I go in to see him and he is cutting my medication even farther, knowing I'm not abusing pain medication he tells me he has to cut me back. I don't leave my house cause of my pain level, I don't hang out with friends cause they always want to go out and do things that I'm unable to do, and that was before my doctor cut my pain medication back this last time. This is not right to be treated like this. I asked what I'm supposed to do and my doctor told me to go to pain management. I told him it didn't work last time. So he told me to write a letter to my congressman and walked out like he didn't care. Some how this has got to change , chronic pain sufferers should not have to be kept in pain cause there are people out there that want to abuse drugs. If someone is in enough pain for long enough that will make them go out and buy pain medication off the streets, which is dangerous, expensive and something I just don't think we should have to even think about, but you're forcing people into considering doing just that out of desperation. Use your head and do the right thing. Give our doctors the chance to treat their patients any way they see fit, without facing charges.REPORT COMMENTS

14 years of chronic lower back pain from a work related injury. Now I have to beg my doctor for one codeine per day, which doesn't really help much. I am forced by the government to have health insurance, but I can not get the help that I need from any doctor I see. When I go to the doctor and say that my main complaint is chronic pain I am given a plethora of anti-inflammatories and anti- depressants THAT DO NOT HELP PAIN and also cause many unpleasant side effects. Codeine should be an over the counter product as it is in other countries. By restricting pain medications to the patients who really need it you are only making things worse. I would rather have an "addiction" to pain medications then to spend the rest of my life in pain; not able to work, not able to go out with friends, not able to keep up my house etc? What happened to a patients "quality of life" being an important consideration. I don't think that anyone who does not have chronic lifelong pain can even begin to understand what it is like. You have no right to judge me or to take the only thing that helps me away.REPORT COMMENTS

Physicians should be free to treat pain without excessive government restrictions & fear of prosecution. Opiates are sometimes needed long term & at high doses to manage nonmalignant, chronic pain. It is wrong that pain victims are routinely denied treatment, when all else fails & opiates are last resort-but not even permitted. And, why? Physicians are terrified to treat intractable pain victims due to fear of the US government;MD's cannot prescribe according to PDR,trials & textbooks or may be prosecuted! Chronic pain victims are thus casualties in the war on drugs, treated like addicts instead of considered therapeutically dependent upon them, to have any quality of life, like a diabetic on insulin. Pain victims who could be managed with opiates, are instead ignored, forced into rehabilitation for "detox" when they instead need their medication doses increased or rotated, they are denied access to medicines like methadone or oxycontin or fentanyl for neuropathic pain, they are told opiates don't work for nerve pain" when that was disproven as myth since 2002 (studies are available on Pubmed & Medscape), they call pain doctors to learn not all even do "medication management " or any opiates or methadone & are not allowed to become a patient if they require opiates! You are preventing their care & causing great suffering. The war on drugs is forcing some to self-medicate, they may lose everything & die of overdoses or suicides BECAUSE their pain was not treated; then you use their deaths against them, to perpetuate this vicious cycle. Stop!! Please, stop treating pain victims like junkies, please stop treating their physicians like criminals & help them by allowing freedom to prescribe medications according to treating physician's judgement & create laws to protect doctors from wrongful lawsuit. If junkies trick an MD, hurt themselves- the addicts should pay the price without any recourse for themselves or family to sue & the physician should be protected by good Samaritan laws. Instead the innocent MD may have SWAT bust down door! Pain victims who can have decent quality of life on high dose opiates should be able to choose that risk & their MD should not have their career, money & freedom at risk for caring for them! But, they are so scared these MD's, who should have the choice to prescribe an opiate or at a dose YOU think is too high, instead are forced into pushing much riskier interventional procedures before the dose ceiling is even met, (which is SUPPOSED to be the dose that causes too many side effects versus benefits) or worse meds, like steroids. The government cannot limit meds or doses, as it must be on a case by case basis! Otherwise, we are no longer free. A chronic pain victim should not be forced to suffer, & only experience hurdles/impediments to care while physicians turn them away because of government interferences in the doctor patient relationship. This must change! Physicians are being forced to harm pain patients by denyinREPORT COMMENTS
