I have been through all alternative treatments and attended the first pain management clinic in the US and many more over the years. I am 63 years old now and my diseases have progressed significantly. I cannot afford all the meds I need, I can't afford physical therapy anymore nor any alternate treatment. I have to take opioids or not live. I do not get high. I am not an addict. I don't want to take opioids, and I need for this government to finally listen to the patients and get doctors to talk. We are suffering and we need help. I cannot even get the wheelchair I need so I have to stay home! I owned a successful business and paid my dues. I paid you, Mr. Government, and you can't even take care of me. LISTEN TO PATIENTS AND DOCTORS NOW! -

I went through every treatment there is twenty years ago before it was determined that only opiate medication was appropriate. The procedures that were torturous and did not work. The last one increased my pain & disability a thousand times - in fact my original injury was a series of injections for back pain. After the second injection my foot snapped like a branch. Steroids suck the calcium from your bones but they don;t mention the possible known adverse reactions for all these procedures. So with two incidents of medically induced disability I have endured every off label use drug that did not touch the pain but made me want to harm myself & others- after only one dose of each one tried! One gave me violent nightmare every night for a year. I have learned various modalities over the years that have helped manage my pain and I significantly reduced my medications yet I still require what would now be deemed a large amount of medicine just to function, care for myself and live the best I can. I have several hours most days where I can do many things, some days I can not walk across the room. The constant threat of losing, being cut back or changing to a different medicine causes all of us extreme stress that increases pain. I am fortunate to have had truly caring and expert doctors who have tried to help and understand that the palliative care I am receiving is appropriate because everything else has been tried/failed. The demonization of the person in pain, the chronic pain patient and even the injured & dying is criminal. There has always been a population that will seek drugs or alcohol, this is nothing new. In the decades past drugs were freely available yet most every one did not want drugs. The threats and mistreatment must end. The cruelty is irrational, sensationalized. The statistics do not tell the full story. All opiate deaths involve other drugs and or alcohol. They are not pain patients. These will just change their drug of choice where we don't have a choice. Drug have existed forever, nothing new. Media sensationalism and social media are driving this irrational over reaction and only harming legitimate patients and their doctors. These drugs became more available because pain was finally being taken seriously. "the Fifth Vital Sign". That still hold true. The problems of over prescribing are long gone. Stop the witch hunt.REPORT COMMENTS

MDs are so afraid of prescribing pain medication for legitimate pain, however heroin is EVERYWHERE in Tucson. Its the people who have chronic pain that are suffering. The drug abusers have no problem getting any drug they want. Pain is life altering, get the government out of the MDs business. If the patient needs pain meds, gabapentin, meloxicam, naproxen- they will prescribe all of these to be taken on the same day, and ruin the kidneys. But just a couple Vicodin would fix the pain, and not 'fry' your kidneys. The ridiculous laws limiting pain meds for chronic pain sufferers don't do one thing to help with drug abuse. Drug abuse is HUGE- but taking away pain medication for chronic pain is tragic. Give the patients information on risks/benefits and let the PATIENTS decide.REPORT COMMENTS

I spent 3 years in severe nerve pain due to multiple surgeries removing masses and tumors that spanned and increased over many years. I also developed severe sepsis, which caused further nerve damage. This was all caused from (work related) prolonged exposure to hazardous chemicals. In pain, I was a hostile, non functioning, suicidal person. I wanted life to either pick up where it had left off or end, but it didn't. I didn't seek or choose to go on pain medication, but when all medical hope was exhausted, I did. A respected pain management doctor began treating me and started me on a small dose, incidentally it hasn't ONCE increased, by his suggestion or mine, in over 5 years. With that, I was able to live again. I still am not able to return to work, but I am a functioning parent and wife and a productive citizen. Now, people like me are one again being punished because of a incompetent system, this time the police and justice system in America, who cannot or won't peruse the real problem, the junkies. Instead, the government intends to blatantly ignore the second notation in the Patients Bill of Rights, where I have the right to have my pain managed with dignity and respect. What is wrong with our country? Everything is backwards. Junkies are given rights and free "pain control" at methadone clinics, but patients with needs are punished. Pot, which was previously labeled a "class A" narcotic, is being legalized across the country for "medical purposes", even given for sleep and anxiety aids, but the medicine that was created for pain control for patients who have the right to have their pain managed, is now becoming illegal. It resembles the unwed, lazy, babymakers who are given free housing, food, clothing, childcare, etc- while the middle-class, hard working citizens, who follow the rules, are penalized. Inmates in prison are given free healthcare with the works, while again, middle America is penalized and get nothing. I want answers. One day there will be a revolution. The citizens are sick of double standards.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a documented 62 yo lady, now disabled and cannot get pain treated so that i may enjoy my older years.I was fired snd labeled a drug seeker after almost 15 years of treatment with no problems, passed pee test , psychiatric exams , one pharmacy,m etc. My last appt, after being lower doses for 4 months, had my one and only panic attack, then promptly fired and labeled drug seeker in my files which black listed me for every future dr. Now no dr will treat my chronic pain from, lupus, trigeminal neuragia , fibromyalgia , neuropathy, osteoarthritiis , rheum a toid arthritis, cancer, pad, copd, rls!! But there are treatments for the addicts who seem to be more important than a lowly pain patirnt. More money in alternative treatments that either dont work, insurance wont pay for, or given meds which dont work for us, but told to take, regardless of side effects. The dea fda cdc should let drs be drs, not go by the few that are addicts, and put them in same category as documeted , by the rules patients. Because of those that CHOOSE to abuse opiates , we are punished for their actions. Does the governments war on drugs stopping the abuse and keeping pills aways from addicts? No! They just get theirs blackmmarket or use whats cheap and available, like heroin! Along with pain patients who can no longer acces meds for their pain, either choose avaikable heroin or choose suicide from m untreated pain.,. Thats tye unfortunate side effect of your war, which, by the way, you are losing! Just like prohibition! Let the drs be drs, and let patients decide how they will be treated!REPORT COMMENTS

I live with systemic lupus, systemic sclerosis, chronic pain syndrome, arthritis of the spine. The first 4 months of this year I was vomiting regularly. I spent several windows in time where I was bladder and bowel incontinent. Then, I went through a phase of falls. I fell and hurt my tailbone in Jully and the worst fall I fell on my head while walking to a meeting at work. I went to urgent care both times and they did nothing. WTH- when non medical bureaucrats regulate healthcare it should be considered a crime. Best response is for us sick people to go move to right to die States. This is social engineering-making the US strong by selecting out its sick citizens. A new witch hunt-hurting sick and penalizing doctors for medical care. Easy targets compared to doing real forensic work. The law never went after the drug dealers where I used to live, where fights, gunfire and prostitution were happening next door- Sick me had to move and cant get healthcare. Is the DEA in the locket of the antidepressant pharmaceutical producers- that is such an awesome solution for people who have serotonin syndrome- and to have your provided tell you to take the medicine no matter how sick it makes you feel. What idiocy. This is no better than obamacare where now we have a limited number of insurance carriers monopolizing care and price fixing. Just try shopping and see what choices there are for insurance. Amazingly the monthly premium plus deductible and out of pocket maximum totalvabput the same for the more afordable plans. Plus, if you happen to exercise right to choose your doctor, and go out of network, expect that your insurance carrier to balance bill you-the percentage splits in your plan document for coinsurance are a fraud. Because the patient's coinsurance will be based on full charge by the doctor, and, the underpayment by the insurance company that will pay at reduced rate will make the doctor whole. That is federal policy for self funded plans and some carriers just use that as its standard. Lastly, insurance companies are even restricting doctors from doing full procedures and ensuring patient safety by using radiology for positioning needles in delicate spinal procedures. What qualifications do insurance claims prudence, ocessors have to make these decisions? Must have only high school or maybe a bachelors degree. I have no confidence in my healthcare any more. I feel robbed beaten and raped when all.I want is health and the ability tovworkvand contribute to society. Whatever belief system the people who set this up, I hope they all suffer intolerable pain and shunning, in just proportion to what they have done to their brothers and sisters. Completely anti-American. Shameful. Violation of the Hippocratic Oath at its worst-first do no harm is dead thanks to unqualified bureaucrats.REPORT COMMENTS

I have just learned that the "DEA" has stopped Subutex for pain and is enforcing Suboxone upon patients and for me, with no Insurance (and no, "Obamacare" does not cover Buprenorphine) Suboxone is $394 whereas Subutex was $145. This is a malicious move perpetrated by the DEA. So why does the DEA persist to police our Doctors and the target Buprenorphine? This is a massive redundancy. They likely have an ulterior motive. This whole situation is why it is time that "we the people" take back the powers we granted the federal and state governments, kick off the 2nd Continetal Cogress and re-order our democracy. We are at a point where the current government structures have overstepped their responsibility to those they serve - the US citizen. The increase of autoimmune disease (which I suffer from) is so misunderstood that millions of us go undiagnosed for years. Then when we finally get the proper diagnosis we find out that 1. No one really knows that much about them even though several of the top selling drugs are for AD. We have to do are own research due o the current structure of our Heath care system that only focuses on the symptom and medication to suppress them. 2. Pain is frequently a by,product of AD. Nerve pain. So to have any quality of life we have to have pain medicine and for long term - usually the rest of our life. Then because suburban white people are OD on pain meds they illicenty purchased or have turned to herion, the several million of us who need the meds for quality of life cannot get them. Yes there are several chronic diseases that are not cancer and have no cure they are Autoimmune Diseases! 3. And if that ain't enough the link between Autoimmunity and genetics is the crappy proceeded food that is full of sugar , GMO, and other preservatives all approved by the same idiots who are trying to stop millions of people from having a quality of life that is just barely living. I have never seen more propaganda that comes out of the CDC, the DEA, and the FDA to try and cover their tracks of guilt. The war on drugs is a war on humanity pure and simple. You have to be a complete moron and ignorant of history to believe prohibition is the answer. Some people have overdosed on opiods. It's sad. How many have did in the War on drugs since Nixon signed it into law in 1971. How are we doing in this war? It's all about money not logic. Like I said our current government model can no longer handle the needs of the people now. It's time to make sweeping changes now. PS If you did not know try this on for size. Any one in medicine or the government who says that no one knew of the consequences of potential addiction is a liar. The first drug laws put into place were for morphine. It was mixed with booze and sold as laudlum. A new company called Bayer synthesized a new version of drug from opium. It had no addiction problems and was ready to roll out to the American citizens. Ahh but what to call it? Something catchy like "Herion". That's right herion is a marketing name from Bayer. Unfortunately it turned out to be stronger than methadone and incredibly addicting. This was before the turn of the 20th century. Opium has been used for 15,000 years to relieve pain and even used to subdue an entire nation (Great Britain and China - the opium wars). The effect and addiction have been known.REPORT COMMENTS

People including most doctors do not understand the difference between addiction and physical dependency. Often people on prescribed opioids develop a dependency due to many things. Often the dependency occurs due to our own genetic makeup, such as being an ultra rapid metabolized. In my case because of genetics I never should have been prescribed an opioid. The only thing that could happen did happen. I built up a tolerance and because I was left on them for over 8 yrs my body was dependent and my brain receptors will never be the same or recover. Now I will be on methadone for the rest of my life because this is the only way I can have any kind of normal life. Nothing about this is black and white. There are few people in the medical field who understand the field of addiction, dependency, and pain management. And I most definitely blame the Drs who prescribed dilauded to can ultra rapid metabolized and then turned their back on me. Shame on all of you in this field!REPORT COMMENTS
