The trained doctor not Career Politicians should be in charge of these decisions. I am so sorry for all of the other pain suffers out there. We need to find a way to stop being treated like "drug addictcs" and get the help we deserve. Congress needs to realize that real drug addicts just save time, embarrassment, wrongful accusations and just buy the drugs on the street. What a jokeFeb 9th, 2016Someone from Merrimac, WI signed.

I went through 15 years of pain management with my neurologist we found what worked one Norco in the morning and I was able to function without searing pain. The Dr. retires and back to no doctor will treat chronic pain issues and they don't prescribe any pain killers. Yet, they will prescribe pills that are for people with seizures along with an NSAID. I don't have seizures I have pain!!!! My father was a physician and I do believe the doctors today must have a different hypocratic oath than the one my father took.REPORT COMMENTS

My mother has MS. Her doctor, recently, without telling her in advance, gave her less than half her monthly prescription of Tramadol. They said they want to wean her off this medication and try something new. What they don't understand is that this was already tried. Her primary care doctor is suddenly not allowed to prescribe pain medication. After over 40 years of having the same doctor, my mother was sent to a pain management clinic. The pain management clinic accused her of being an "addict" and released her as a patient with no further prescriptions. Her neurologist found her another pain management doctor who helped her but has moved away. So now she's back to the neurologists who wants to make her jump through all the hoops she went through with two other pain management clinics. It's humiliating and most of all, causing her great anxiety to know that the pain relief she needs may not be coming. I don't understand how they can do this to her. I am terrified that the day is coming when I can't manage her pain at home and the ER will do nothing. I'm sorry for people who have lost loved ones to overdoses but punishing my mother will not bring them back and she needs to live her life NOW.REPORT COMMENTS

I have suffered greatly because of neuropathy because being diabetic for 30 years, to the point I can't drive or sleep, or even walk most of the time. I was taking low dose norcos which my doctor had given me with lyrica which gave me a few hours out of everyday where I could "just be okay" the governments war on drugs has caused my doctor to close her practice for fear of prosecution, which has left me for 6 months with no help, I have been to several doctors with my charts and even to the emergency room and no place would give me anything to help manage my pain. The pain clinics are a joke because they are filled with addicts and sellers with no known illnesses or disease whatsoever, and those who have proof they have an illness or disease is told there is no room, or they will be put on a waiting list which is years and years. It's really inhuman, and I personally can't do it any longer... to be in constant pain, and there is no hope of getting help from any doctor because of this so called war on drugs. So soon I will absolutely take my life, who could live like this?REPORT COMMENTS

Millions of Americans are being tortured because they suffer with chronic pain. We are not addicts but in this losing war of drugs, the CDC's policies are making more heroin addicts who will no matter what look for away to get high. Our government is now supporting the drug cartels who will get them what they want. This is NOT the way to fight drugs. Did we learn nothing from Prohibition?REPORT COMMENTS

No, CancelFeb 9th, 2016Someone from Filer, ID writes:
Physicians should be free to treat pain without excessive government restrictions & fear of prosecution. Opiates are sometimes needed long term & at high doses to manage nonmalignant, chronic pain. It is wrong that pain victims are routinely denied treatment, when all else fails & opiates are last resort-but not even permitted. And, why? Physicians are terrified to treat intractable pain victims due to fear of the US government;MD's cannot prescribe according to PDR,trials & textbooks or may be prosecuted! Chronic pain victims are thus casualties in the war on drugs, treated like addicts instead of considered therapeutically dependent upon them, to have any quality of life, like a diabetic on insulin. Pain victims who could be managed with opiates, are instead ignored, forced into rehabilitation for "detox" when they instead need their medication doses increased or rotated, they are denied access to medicines like methadone or oxycontin or fentanyl for neuropathic pain, they are told opiates don't work for nerve pain" when that was disproven as myth since 2002 (studies are available on Pubmed & Medscape), they call pain doctors to learn not all even do "medication management " or any opiates or methadone & are not allowed to become a patient if they require opiates! You are preventing their care & causing great suffering. The war on drugs is forcing some to self-medicate, they may lose everything & die of overdoses or suicides BECAUSE their pain was not treated; then you use their deaths against them, to perpetuate this vicious cycle. Stop!! Please, stop treating pain victims like junkies, please stop treating their physicians like criminals & help them by allowing freedom to prescribe medications according to treating physician's judgement & create laws to protect doctors from wrongful lawsuit. If junkies trick an MD, hurt themselves- the addicts should pay the price without any recourse for themselves or family to sue & the physician should be protected by good Samaritan laws. Instead the innocent MD may have SWAT bust down door! Pain victims who can have decent quality of life on high dose opiates should be able to choose that risk & their MD should not have their career, money & freedom at risk for caring for them! But, they are so scared these MD's, who should have the choice to prescribe an opiate or at a dose YOU think is too high, instead are forced into pushing much riskier interventional procedures before the dose ceiling is even met, (which is SUPPOSED to be the dose that causes too many side effects versus benefits) or worse meds, like steroids. The government cannot limit meds or doses, as it must be on a case by case basis! Otherwise, we are no longer free. A chronic pain victim should not be forced to suffer, & only experience hurdles/impediments to care while physicians turn them away because of government interferences in the doctor patient relationship. This must change! Physicians are being forced to harm pain patients by denyinREPORT COMMENTS

I find this witch hunt the governments way of bringing back prohibition. Enlighten me here, why is it that the FDA/Dr. Robert Califf was against the CDC's INHUMANE guidelines months ago, but now he did a total turnout as Obama promotes him to the Commissioner, and hes tooting his loud mouth in favor of these INHUMANE restrictions, even adding several of his own restrictions. It's evident what's going on here. Why is the CDC NOT being held accountable for using FALSE data when recording the overdose deathrate!? Those FALSIFIED statistics were made to fit the governments addiction driven agenda!! YOU ARE ALL IGNORING THE RIPPLE EFFECT YOU ARE CREATING BY STRIPPING LEGITIMATE PAIN PATIENTS OF OUR RIGHTS TO MEDICINE, TAKING OUR LIFE SAVING MEDICATIONS AWAY, CAUSING MANY TO ENDURE SEVERE PAIN, AND WITHDRAWAL. This is the governments plan all along..Those of us who have been on opiods for years will have to endure LIFE THREATENING WITHDRAWAL, some may seek help thru addiction doctors, NOT BECAUSE THEY ARE ADDICTS, LIKE GOVERNMENT WANTS THE COUNTRY TO BELIEVE, BUT BECAUSE THE WITHDRAWLS WILL PUSH THEM TO THE BREAKING POINT. EXISTING IN SEVERE, NE ER ENDING, DEBILITATING, CRIPPLING PAIN 24/7 AND HAVING HORRIBLE WITHDRAWAL ON TOP OF IT WILL PUSH INNOCENT LAW ABIDING CITIZENS TO TAKE THEIR LIVES OR TURN TO THE STREETS FOR RELIEF! THIS IS CRUEL, THIS IS BARBARIC, THIS IS INHUMANE AND IT IS TORTUROUS! TORTURE IS A CRIMINAL ACT OF VIOLENCE AND YOU ALL ARE BREAKING THE LAW!! I am a chronic pain sufferer, that stems from Scoliosis, Degenerative Disc Disease, 4 bulging discs, fibromyalgia, sciatica, etc. My doctor, who prescribes very limited opiates to me, has told me he would prescribe more to me because of the MRI results showing my pain is legitimate but he is afraid of the DEA. I can only take opiates every 8 hours and it is very mild opiates to begin with. Because of this, I suffer much more than I should. Opiates does not take all the pain away, but it does take the edge off, which is very welcome to a chronic pain patient. My mother who has some similar diagnosis that I do, suffers with the same problem. We are just 2 patients. There are countless others who are suffering because of the DEA's hold on prescribing doctors.REPORT COMMENTS

This is clear-cut discrimination, when my pharmacy TELLS me that they will not fill my opioid medication because they are "tightening the reins" on regulated meds when I have been a loyal and good customer for years, arriving oat the same timeframe each month for my regular prescription signed by my physician, but I can fill any other type of meds just fine - as if I need one med less than the other somehow. As it is my pain is undertreated because the DEA has limited my physician in what and how many meds he is allowed to write a prescription for - RIDICULOUS in a FREE country - so I am forced to decide which hours of each day I'd like to be out of pain, now I am not allowed to fill even one simple day early because - WHY? Because I'm going to do what exactly with one measly day's worth of meds? This is just laughable! It is a violation against those of us with disabilities to deny us access to our meds just because pharmacists think they know better than our doctors and our government sees fit to "regulate" them due to the minority who abuse them. Those abusing prescription meds are typically NOT getting them from a doctor (the "pill mill" days are long gone and despite people loving to claim doctors "hand them out like candy" this could not be further from the truth even for those of us with legit conditions!) They have inflated the "prescription" drug stats by adding in heroin OD statistics (they even admitted the stats are fuzzy) and blame the heroin epidemic on prescription meds, but the only 'gateway drug' is whatever drug the addict tried first, whether that was sniffing glue in grade school or what. Addicts are going to become addicts regardless of what they tried first or how they obtained it, although the majority (if any) left that are abusing pain meds are getting them on the streets and these meds are coming from outside of locales - most of us know where they are coming from, most likely originating beyond our borders. Yet the DEA continues to cry "opiate" epidemic (which we all know is really heroin, you have to live under a rock not to know that right now) and blame it on physicians or patients "diverting" prescriptions. The vast majority of pain patients are just NOT going to divert their prescription when they need it to live and function, no amount of money would change that need for the med so those meds are like gold to those in pain. Besides, they DO have the ability to make these meds abuse deterrent so why not do that with ALL opioid meds and let pain patients receive what they need?!? But I digress. So now they are now targeting chronic pain patients right as they are catering to the addicts. We did not CHOOSE to be in our predicaments, saddled with medical conditions that require us to take pain medication. We do not take these medications for fun and games - they are our lifelines so that we can be normal productive people. They do not make us "high" because we have actual pain which the meds work toward. Meanwhile, OREPORT COMMENTS

Dr.s are to quick to dismiss people like me, who have absolutely no quality of life!!! I do not see my family, I am in bed, on a heating pad, spending money and begging people to help me just so I can take care of my elderly mother, and get up ti feed her and make sure she takes her meds . Get her in the shower. And just be able to go out.and get fresh air once a month. Why anyone should have to live like this is beyond me. I have a friend who suffers from degenetive disc disease, and us on his way to a wheel chair. His pharmacy got knocked back by the DEA by 70% and cut people off!!! If they get 3 medications they can get 1 there, go to another pharmacy, and they get cut from the first one. We are no longer free citizens of this country everyone's loves so dam much. Government is killing this country. I never in my life thought Pot would be legal, they legalize it. Alcohol is the leading killer of Americans, my husband. Has serousis of the liver, and yet he can go buy bottles of blackberry legally.I am no longer proud to be an American. I honestly would live to live in Canada, their values are make it illegal everyone wants it, so you can go to the grocery store get pain killers like aspirin, ur anxiety pills , like Tylonal. United States, home of the free my as!!! Let these Dr.s di their jobs, if the DEA wanted to be f&@n Dr.s, go to medical school, like they did. These pills were to help people who need it. Sell cigarettes, kill people, sell marijuana to stoners, and by god we please keep selling alcohol to people like my husband. But someone who suffers in god awful pain, arrest the Dr.a on this country for trying to help people. United States we are suckers, suckers who think we live I a free country, and yet the biggest junkies are the judges, police, and everyone else who says they are looking out for us.!!!! Screw Congress, the dea, and whoever else scared these Dr.s to help us sick folks. I have had over 80 operations, scare. Tissue, and Fibramiligia keeps me from my life. Pain hurts, I wish this only on the people who are hell bent on taking it away!!! Lets get these Dr.s back to found what they went to school. For 12 years for,...
