Rather than ban a breed, why not do due diligence with every dog on base. All dogs should be checked for aggressive behavior. Dobermans are no more aggressive than other breeds. I have owned three and have known loads and have never heard of misplaced aggression in any of the dogs I have known or owned. Dobermans are intelligent, loyal, and loving dogs. Those who ban do not know the breed. -

I have trained dogs for over 30 years, and to see the Doberman singled out as an aggressive breed to be banned from military housing is beyond belief. The Doberman, along with other working breeds, served our military faithfully during World War II. Rather than ban the breed, why not require proof of obedience training, such as an AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate, for ALL dogs over a certain size that are older than a certain age? This approach would address the real concern of out-of-control dogs and less than responsible owners, and could be very easy to implement on a military base.REPORT COMMENTS

Considering what the Doberman has meant to the military in the past, this is absurd.REPORT COMMENTS

How dare you ban a breed that was so useful to the US Government during the war? These same dogs that you are banning saved HUMAN lives countless time overseas! These dogs put their own lives on the line for their handlers and now you want to bannish them? Whats next?REPORT COMMENTS

I am horrified that the Doberman breed has been listed as one of the aggressive breeds and are unsuitable to live on the Army base. First and foremost, these were the very dogs that stood by our military during the war....dying alongside their handler in many cases. Their loyalty is unquestionable. In the 40 years that my husband and I have been in Dobermans, we have never had or been acquainted with any aggressive one. In fact, even being raised with no children in the household, they adore and watch over them. Never a raised hair. Dobermans of today are not bred with the same intentions as they were in the past. Today's Dobermans are bred for great temperment, as family dogs, show dogs, therapy dogs and companion dogs. Just my 2 cents.REPORT COMMENTS

I am outraged over this! Maybe we ought to worry as much about getting our troops out of danger from our enemies as we worry about danger from these loving animals.REPORT COMMENTS

maybe next they will ban guns on military bases. or maybe aggressive soldiers.if one can train a human to be aggressive one can train any dog not to be. political correctness has no place in the military.only logic.problem is they have it backwards.this type of mindset is the begining of the end for the good ole u.s.a teddy roosevelt is rolling in his grave.REPORT COMMENTS

Dobermans are very loyal, intelligent, and trusted companions. They are more loyal than those who used their services in war times and now want to restrict the breed from being with their loving families. Please do not ban this entire breed from living in Military Housing.REPORT COMMENTS

I saw the wonderful program for the Military War Dog Doberman handlers from WWII. I contributed to the War Dog Memorial on at the dog cemetary on Guam that features a Doberman. The Doberman community enthusiastically supported the agreement with Homeland security encouraging the breeding of sound temperament Dobermans for service in the future. How can they be banned from base housing? They are the most loyal family companions.REPORT COMMENTS

This is an outrage!!! My dobermans have actually saved my life twice now. I feel very sad that our world has come to this. As with any other breed, it is only made vicious by the people who own it.REPORT COMMENTS

Why is the Army discriminating against Dobermans? The AKC has the CGC certificate for homeowners insurance companies to prove good dog citizenship. I know I feel much safer with mine in the house with me. So how about it Army do an evaluation per dog and be fair about it. Shouldn't the family be happy when the active duty person is away?? Please look on the DPCA webisite under History then see History of Devotion and READ! Dobermans are to be used by Homeland Security to help PROTECT THE USA..............Think about that!!!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

This is a disgrace. Italy is now righting it's wrongful ban on certain breeds, recognizing that any dog could potentially be high-rish and puts the onus on the owner, or the caretaker of the dog. They also foresee training courses for owners who will then be issued a special license. I am a dog trainer, and believe me - it's some of these owners that need to be banned from owning an animal. Don't blame the dog - train the OWNER. I am also a Doberman owner and have many friends that are as well. We are responsible and loving to our beloved dogs - who are loving and GENTLE in return. Shame on the U.S. Army - or the feel good liberal minded human being that decided this was a smart idea. Suggestion - go to Italy. Learn. Come back. Leave our Dobermans alone. As you were.REPORT COMMENTS
