Friends raise and show dobes and we have them in our office daily. They are NOT aggressive or mean by nature. Irresponsible Owners make any dog what they become..

The Doberman has given no greater gift to man than his dedication to the Marines in World War II. . When United States Marines landed war dogs on Bougainville in the South Pacific, 01 November, 1943, it marked the first use of trained military dogs in combat by the United States. Dobermans, the official U.S. Marine Corps War Dogs, served throughout the South Pacific, courageously leading patrols in the steaming jungles, giving timely warning of the enemy waiting in ambush or hiding in caves, saving untold lives. They guarded exhausted sleeping troops in foxholes by night, preventing infiltration by the foe. . After the war, many of the dogs returned to civilian homes, where, despite their training, not one of them was ever known to have bitten anyone. Attractive targets of an enemy anxious to go undetected, not all the dogs made it home. Some of the dogs made the supreme sacrifice. They lie buried in The War Dog Cemetery on the island of Guam. Their graves are marked with small headstones and a plaque.

Unless a dog is sick or has been trained to do so it will not be agressive. Our dobbie was very friendly and gentle and I would get another one. All that I have come across are that way. Almost any animal will protect their property and owners by instinct but are not vicious. Don't single out a breed because your are afraid of it.

I've been a Doberman owner, breeder, show dogs and have never in the past 49 years ever had an aggressive Doberman. They are superb family pets. Any dog can be made aggressive - that's the owner's fault - not the individual dog. Pit Bull dogs that are made to fight in dog rings are aggressive to other dogs but never to humans. Pit Bulls make the best pet if trained correctly and loved. Please take the Doberman Pinscher off your list. It is not fair to the breed. If you found a "bad apple" you get rid of that apple, not to the whole basket (breed).

These dogs are service dogs for the handicapped, easily trained, and will give up their lives for their owner. When will this BSL stop? When we as dog owners have no dogs of any breed?

To ban a breed that serves so outstandingly as pilot dogs for the blind, as therapy dogs, as assistance and service dogs in every discipline, as loving and gentle pets and companions, who are not even on the dog bite list, and who have served our Country and given their lives to save ours, is totally unreasonable, discriminatory and short-sighted. Just who decides these things anyway? Surely, a breed that has served this Country so well should at least have our protection!! Not to mention our gratitude!!

Was very disappointed to hear that this was put in place at the beginning of the year after all dogs have done for our troops in wars.

I founded and operate Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue of AZ. In nine months I have saved over 40 Dobermans, all strangers to me and many from abusive situations. I've also owned and adored Dobermans for more than 15 years. What you don't realize are that Dobermans have been bred to be DISCERNING, RESPONSIBLE guardians and are not random attack machines, and the breed has lower bite statistics than Labrador Retrievers! If you're going to ban whole breeds--which is unfair and uninformed--at least base the bans on real-life bite statistics and not on ignorant stereotypes based on TV soap operas. To dishonor a breed that has served this country in war and peace, in search and rescue, police protection, military defense and family defense is really despicable. I hope you don't treat other soldiers with this kind of disrespect. Change this policy; it's based on fiction, not fact.

How could you do this do the very dogs who saved soldiers in years past. These are wonderful family pets. Ban the deed not the breed.

Wow, talk about "biting the hand that feeds [and protects] you..." The Doberman Pinscher protected and served the US military in combat missions throughout the world. My dad had a Dobe partner when he served in the Army in WWII. My husband and I currently have 3 wonderful, friendly, well-behaved, and appropriately protective Dobermans in our household. To disallow all Doberman Pinschers from military bases is a sad testament to our loyalty as a country.

As a former marine, I became interested in the dobe because of their service during World War II. I have owned and trained dobermans for many years. With responsible handling, they are great dogs. To ban dobermans on a military establishment as an object of a breed specific policy is unwarranted and misguided. That this should occur on any American military base in the world is ludicrous.

I think this is a disgrace to the service that Dobermans have provided to our service members! I can not think of a better breed to live on a post as they are most like out military men and women, peace loving, but ready to defend should the need arise. If you have ever met a Doberman this issue would never arise. I personally would trust my 3 year old son with a Doberman before I would with most breeds.

Dobermans have long been wonderful companions and working dogs, especially in the military. It is very wrong to discriminate against a breed of dog. Any dog is a danger in the wrong hands; stupid cruel owners should be banned, not breeds.

I have had Doberman Pinschers in my life for over forty years. My life has been saved by my Dobermans. My two chilren were raised with these wonderful, intelligent, faithful companions. I will have Dobermans in my life until the day I leave this planet. Any dog can be provoked into aggression!!! How rude to single out our faithful breed!!! And who or what do we have to have for the protection of our familys? If you are not"on guard" for your own personal safety, you are foolish! I choose to have these wonderful companions in my life. No one can take that right away from me!

I have owned 4 dobermans for a total of 25+ years. Not one sign of aggression. Your assessment of the breed is totally inaccurate. Please listen to those of us who have owned them. Thank you.
