When we bought in our subdivision, we were thrilled to have such a beautiful place to live. Little did we know that our subdivision would be destroyed by an outrageous HOA who wants to bully and harass people. HOA's should be banned. As long as I manage my property in a way that respects my neighbors and my community, they need to butt out. They don't pay my mortgage so they have no right to dictate how I live in my own home. My hoa is not abiding by laws but who do you go to to have them enforced? We have zero rights! I've even given them mortgage documents showing them when we purchased our home we did have an HOA & thy still threaten leans. With the downturn in the economy the two builders in our neighborhood, re-wrote the by-laws so that the homeowners can't have control until the development is 98% complete. Meanwhile they have stopped maintaining their lots and paying into the HOA fund for the undeveloped lots all while sending nasty grams to homeowners including saying they should prune their shrubs in August in Georgia. Brilliant!! Last year they doubled our assessment to cover not paid by the builders who run the HOA. Feels like organized crime to me.REPORT COMMENTS

HOA's are supposed to foster a community spirit. What I have seen is a community where people spy and resort to kindergarten type tattling. HOA should care the "common" areas and overall appearance, NOT what is happening inside the home. They certainly should not have foreclosure rights. The HOA in my neighborhood is cliquish, they act unprofessionally, they lie and they pick on certain residents like moving trash cans to the center of their driveway if they are not put away the same day as trash pickup. Homeowner's ASSociations are just like having another government within a government. They have too much power but don't do any good for the homeowners. They raise the association fees without following their own covenant, they charge late fees even if the homeowner never received the initial billing, they add penalty charges and outrageous legal fees to your bill and eventually evict you from your home even if they never paid a cent toward your mortgage. The only people that benefit from the HOA are the management companies and the lawyers that they retain, like keeping sharks in a tank, just waiting for someone to fall in. DISSOLVE ALL HOMEOWNER'S ASSOCIATIONS NATIONWIDE! It should be illegal. It's like having the "godfather" taking care of his family, but somehow the "godfather" may even be better.REPORT COMMENTS
