I will never live in an HOA again. It is nothing but a money making operation for people who manage, litigate and lobby.There is no recourse in Wa state except in a court of law, which is cost prohibitive for most and the HOA knows this and abuses their powers to the point people dont want to live in one anymore. I feel living in one lowers the value of my house. -

I agree as having been a realtor many people DON"T read the HOA docs, they are too trusting. I read my HOA docs 3 times. I was very reticent to sign to begin with. The problem was they changed what I signed on for without the proper authority to do so. I served on the board, tried to help my fellow homeowners achieve dissolution as they voted by a 67% majority had voted and the documents allowed. The builder didn't have a vision except to make the town happy by pawning off responsibility for a stormwater pond that the town didn't want to take care of (but does for their "buddy builder" in another subdivision. The documents allowed for the homeowners to do this but the effort was thwarted because the gov't taxes the playground. You'll never see another American flag displayed in this neighborhood because DEMOCRACY did not work! Hoodwinking and deception didREPORT COMMENTS

We are presently in a lawsuit spending thousands of dollars just to have the laws followed. You expect to spend thousands of dollars on a divorce but to spend thousands of dollars on your HOA just to use the common areas and know where your moneys going.. This is crazy!!! One state representative said HOA's wouldn't want to spend a $25.00 fee for an ombudsman an Illinois. I for one would and I know many more HOA homeowners who would!!!! I live in and have lived in an HOA for the past 5 years and have had no problems with them. I pay all my dues on time and follow the CCR courteously. But HOA's scare the crap out of me and frankly I am giving up all my rights to them, the HOA?s rights and legal documents are draconian, downright unconstitutional. HOA?s, realtors, etc? argue they are for the benefit of the neighborhood, yet they do nothing to protect the owners, except maybe the bank for mortgaged property. They also argue that ?if you don?t like the rules, then don?t buy a home in one.? That?s a great argument if there were options to buy in a non-HOA, but I?m in San Antonio and there are very limited options outside of an HOA. We are currently looking for a better home to fit out family?s needs and all we?re finding are HOA homes. When trying to buy a home with 35 acres that is located several miles from city and HOA states that I can't put my 10 animals on it because "they" don't want animals there....Then "they" should live in the city! But, regardless if you live within city limits or not. Any "persons" who try to set rules as to how one should live their lives in their own home should not be an American! This is one reason why European people fled their home countries because they were tired of being controlled! NOW, the Coventry Management Group says this causes me to forfeit my 1st amendment right to free speech. I got behind 1 yearin 2010 @ $127 per month. I have tenants there in condo. I gave them a financial break. I was not working. I pay every month now...but we cannot agree on the fees for the one year. Since I make current monthly payments...they now have me owing $16,000 with attorney fees and late fees and interest on late fees (monthly). I have 50 emails or more trying to get this resolved...And I just get attorney fees...no response from board or 'management company.
