HOA abused us by taking away our parking lot if we don't follow their orders. We pay a lot of money every month for nothing.

HOA have too much power and infringe on the American right to purchase a home/townhome/condo/villa and then afterwards infringe on the right of a homeowner, who pays taxes, a mortgage, and maintenance costs, to do whatever it is that the homeowner pleases. If I want to rent out the house that I pay for, it is my right to do so. These associations have become too powerful and they have the potential to hurt the real estate market because their rules and regulations turn people off from buying within communities or sometimes don't even allow people to buy in these communities. Looking at the big picture, the associations are more hurt to the economy because they can stump real estate markets. Better to just dissolve them and these workers/volunteers (mostly volunteers) can be hired by private homeowners as property managers with no rules or regulations involved in their job.

You are required to pay dues, yet receive minimal services. Why should these people make decisions for my property, when I work so hard to pay the mortgage.

The homeowners of HOA's have entered into a nightmare. We are governed by a body that does not follow the. There us laws in place but not enforced. There us a lobby group that has swindled politicians into believing that they speak for us, this is so far from the truth. Thus lobby group passes laws to suck homeowners dry by the lawyers who interpret the law and make sure their documents are written in such a way that they will never be held accountable for any wrong doing. This group will not think twice about passing laws that will allow them to take away our homes. Us homeowner are tired if the harassment for standing up for what is right only to be threatened with fines. These homeowners associations open, tape and reseal ballots when an election doesn't quite go their way..this is fact scanned and documented. What recourse do we have? Spend thousands on lawyers and court costs to fight them breaking the law. This was a flawed system and will continue to be until politicians and representative in each state start listening to the people subject ti the abuse of HOA'S.

There is no other independent government in the US that will take away your home for any reason that they wish. This is an unchecked, unregulated, and corrupt entity that is completely out of control by power hungry individuals. This needs to end in our country. The things they do are unconstitutional.

Some people are getting very rich off the 64 BILLION dollars we pay in assessments every year. This needs to stop. HOAs are legalized fraud on 24% of the population. There is an epidemic of huge special assessments where owners will be paying 5k, 10k, 15k due to years of mismanagement and no rights other than to sue or sell.

I offered to settle with a collection company the HOA sicked on me due to non-payment (sticking to my principles). The HOA docs allowed the HOA to be dissolved by a 67% majority vote (this was achieved on Oct. 8,2010.) The HOA docs also stated that the common areas could be given to the town. The town refused to accept the common areas. None of the elected representatives line in an HOA themselves ; yet they required the builder to have one (the town did not provide any oversight to ensure the builder had properly achieved the titles and filed the paperwork required. So I sat down to write the check for $610 (which would be the past years fees plus the ADAC companies fees when I saw the payment page that they were sticking on an additional 3% with no explanation or accounting ; that was the proverbial last straw. Americans are being taken advantage of (by out of state companies no less.) Please warn others-HOA's are very bad. Please read- Neighbors at War- and pass it on!

I pay for my property and as such can do what I would like to within the law. HOA's act as mini dictatorships within the US who have the power to take peoples homes. That is not America. That is not freedom.

I'm apart of an HOA here in SLC,UT and I was fined $500 and was never told why in the letter sent to me. There was no code or explanation, just a "You have 10 business days to pay us or else we send you to collections." 3 days later after trying to contact my HOA, I was finally told that 1. I should pay the fine 2. I was fined because I'm not the homeowner of my property (which I am and have been living in the property for 6 years) 3. Told not to take it personal and was hung up on. When i finally did get a chance to clear this up a month later, I was given no information on who made these accusations or what the evidence was against me. This HOA is criminal. This was only the most recent of 3 'attacks' against me and I don't expect them to go away in the future. I will never be a part of an organization that practices mafia tactics when managing property.

I should be able to do on my private property as I wish, without being governed outside the local and State laws. There is almost no way to find a home without being pushed around by an HOA.

It's truly hard to believe that American citizens are subject to these non government organizations, comprised of individuals who all too often lack the moral compass to keep from using their positions of power to become predatory. We have all heard HOA horror stories. Our constitution is supposed to protect freedoms and liberties. The 4th amendment is supposed to protect and sanctify a citizens home. The government isn't allowed to search and seize property without due cause. An HOA isn't part of the government, but it's actions and abilities to seize properties for ridiculous reasons are currently protected by our government. Why are we protected from this behavior from our government, but not by these organizations? It makes no sense. Why should we be forced to pay fees, sometimes as much as $450 a month, which is a huge burden for most families, or risk loosing our homes that we've worked so hard for? It sounds like extortion, and it feels criminal. We demand action, we demand an end to HOA fees at the very least! This right to live free from the extortion and bullying of an HOA is clearly one of the non-enumerated rights of the 9th amendment.

HOAs make neighbors hate each other! The management company makes a lot of money, at our expense; reading the rules as they see that they want to, harrassing people in the neighborhood, yet letting others by with the same thing they are writing up folks for. Need to get rid of HOAs; on the average people do not buy a house to let it go down hill.
