I agree It is not fair to natives of this country who are quite capable of doing the job but because they do not speak Spanish cannot get the job. If you come over here speak English if I moved to Costa Rica I would make it my business to speak their language. I feel like the Spanish speakers are so entitle.

It is discriminary to non-Spanish speakers who dont speak Spanish. If the Hispanic/Latino population doesnt have to assimilate then whats nexf? Chinese preffered, Japanese preferred. Trust, the Hispanics must learn the language of this land. America needs only one language and English should be preferred.

It took me a while to realize that the main factor in the degradation of the black (especially lower income) communities was the influx and promotion of illegal immigrants. Not to be offensive for no reason, but my white co-workers of the racist variety were super eager to promote the myth of Hispanics being the Hardest workers EVER, and were doubly eexcited to have a new, subservient slave class that was a lot closer to their complexion. It's taken 20 years for the original captain's of industry in the south to realize that their kids and grandkids have been blown out by the types who don't think people who can't speak spanish deserve to eat. Who's laughing now?

My family came here over a 100 years ago, (my Mexican side) . Not all my family was from Mexico only one side. The rest were Native Americans mixed with Europeans, (Italian, Irish , European Jew & Spaniards). My grandmother told me when she was younger if they spoke Spanish in school they would get in trouble. My family chose to embrace the American cutlure. Both my parents speak English only, and myself as well. Now I get job offers only because they think I'm bilingual, because I look mostly Latina. When they find out I'm not bilingual they tell me,"sorry we are only looking for someone bilingual". Really??? After all that my family went through. It's offensive especially since I'm only half Mexican. This is a double discrimination for me. One for my skin color, and the other because I'm not "Mexican enough" This is America, English is our language. I would never go to another country and think they need to cater to me and hire someone just to speak my language. Unbelievable.

My mother shouldn't have to know Spanish to apply for a job. She has had mental breakdowns because she doesn't have money to help pay bills. We may live in the RGV of South Texas, but that doesn't mean we have to speak Spanish. No one would hire her cause she doesn't speak it.

Almost every health care job in California requires employees to speak Spanish. IEHP needs to be taken away from Anchor children and all immigrants and there will be no need for Spanish speaking employees. I can't even imagine 20 years from now! Everyone will have to speak Arabic in order to work.

I went to apply for a hotel job cleaning rooms. The first few maids I asked before going to the front desk if they were hiring hardly or didn't speak any English. I go to the front desk to apply they ask if I'm bilingual I tell them no so I didn't qualify. Why is it okay for them to require people to bilingual but will higher people who only speak spanish?

My son is half Asian and cannot find a job because he doesn't speak Spanish. The public sector employers are the biggest discrimination offenders, including state/federal funded medical entities, and temporary work agencies. I am a Spanish speaking Hispanic and I believe this discrimination has been rooted for political gain.

I'm currently looking for medical office positions in Miami, FL and most of them REQUIRE you to be bilingual in Spanish so it makes my search much harder than ever. I went to school and plan to get my certifications in billing and coding very soon. I refuse to be looked over for a great career because I was only taught to speak English. It should not be a requirement and I will gladly sue any company that discriminates against me for that.

I live in Southern California and have struggled for the past 15 years to obtain any job in my field and even some outside of it because I do not speak Spanish. I am over $10,000 dollars in debt with student loans because I wasn't informed that to work in the medical administration office I would have to be bi-lingual. I am discriminated on a daily basis for not being a Spanish speaking person and ALWAYS PASSED OVER. How can we make this stop? How can that be a requirement when my skills out way someone else's but they are Hispanic and speak Spanish?

I am an African American whose ancestors have a long history of discrimination. My ancestors' tongues were cut out if hey dared to speak their own language! Everyone other group of immigrants who have migrated here have had to learn English. Many come over from places such as Haiti and parts of Africa already knowing how to speak English. I have nothing against Spanish speaking people, however the refusal to speak English which by the way is possible due to Civil Rights laws, something my ancestors fought and died for is abusive and insulting. The use of "Bilingual preferred" is discrimination because it favors those who have the ability to speak these two languages in deference to everyone else. As I said before, others came over here and learned to speak English, why not them?

I am all for learning a second language; but to allow employers to make spanish speaking a requirement is discrimination. If I moved to Spain permanently I would have to learn Spanish, if I moved to France permanently I would have to learn French, if I moved to China I would have to learn Mandarin/Chinese. Why in America is it not a requirement for foreigners legal/illegal to learn English? You are purposely putting Americans jobs at risk or preventing them from getting a new job because of the Spanish speaking requirement.

This Bilingual requirement in America, an English speakung country, is ridiculous. I am a Veteran, and after fighting for my country, I cant even get a job anywhere without being bilingual Spanish. So Latinos can get a job but we can not. When is America going to be America again.

The job market in El Paso is booming.....if you are bilingual. I do have a job, however, I believe that I have been looked over for soooo many jobs because I am not bilingual. Many of them you can't even apply to without being bilingual. I am Hispanic, but I do not speak Spanish fluently, so its still very unfair for anyone unless you are of Mexican descent.
