To be a citizen you have to speak English, it's called assimilation. When I lived in other countries I learned the language!

America's The Melting Pot and I'm so not understanding why and some parts of New York City predominantly New York Bronx why do you have to speak Spanish most places have translators that's on duty you have interpreter services so why would it be a requirement for me to have to speak Spanish it's a discrimination it Outsourcing jobs to other people and I feel that some English speaking one language speaking person has more qualifications to do the job but because there they don't speak Spanish they don't get the job and then you put a person who is not qualified to do the job but because they speak Spanish they should automatically get a job Ludacris here in America you don't go to a totally speak in French country and expect them to just take care of you you don't go to a totally Portuguese speaking country and expect me to take care you but here and New York City and America it's okay you don't speak English no problem you can get a job you can get Welfare if you can get everything but if you were born and raised here so sorry you don't learn Spanish oh well you don't get a chance to get the job and that's discrimination

How about fluency in English be a requirement ? This bi-lingual thing is BS. Immigration and naturalization isn't even requiring a grasp of English to pass the citizenship test , which is required by LAW .

Every day i feel more and more like this isnt my home even though my ancestors put their blood sweat and tears into building it and also gave their lives for our future. Now we are getting pushed to the back of the line because its more important to hire based on being diverse and not being the hardest worker anymore. Its sad really and im very sick of it. Life isnt perfect so stop with this p.c. Garbage

It's great to be able to give bilingual people the job opportunities but I think it's a discrimination when a company requires that, especially when someone who isn't has the same skills as that individual. You feel like the bilingual people are taking most of the jobs in the office place or any other place that feel the need for bilingual people.

The majority of jobs in and around my field for which I have 17 years of experience in require the applicant to be bilingual that in and of itself leaves me without a job or candidates with less experience are able to take those positions simply because they speak Spanish and English. This is unfair and an English-speaking country that we cannot get jobs as English speakers because we do not also speak Spanish it is a discrimination and should be against the law

I work incredibly hard, I have a great deal of experience and I very qualified to do jobs in my field well. I do not think that it is fair that I have not been selected for many positions because I do not speak Spanish. I do not think that it is fair reject an qualified candidate because the person does not speak Spanish.

I am more than qualified for certain job positions that would allow me to help families brighten their futures for their children regarding the special education process and other resources. However, bilingual preferences are listed on most job opportunities keeping me from being considered a candidate.

The United States public education system provides at least 12 years of free English class. You may take one semester of Spanish, with the opportunity to sneak in another two courses before graduation. After graduation, it now costs money to further one's desire to master a fluency in Spanish. Meanwhile, native Spanish speakers have had ample time to learn English for free. In order to graduate from high school, it is at least some-what required to have a mastery in the English language. In order to get a decent paying wage, it is required to have a H.S diploma or equivalent. In order to get a decent paying job in regions near the Mexican border, one must be able to be fluent in Spanish AND have a H.S diploma. Therefore, those who are native Spanish speakers, as well as those who are born to families who are native Spanish speakers have a superbly unfair advantage as job seekers. The current system in place is unfairly deterring people who are potentially better at the posted job, in favor of those who can either afford external means of learning a language or have immigrated here.

It seems as if only Spanish speaking people are allowed to earn a living in this country and it's not fair. Jobless in South Florida.

My family lives in the southwest about 200 miles from the border with Mexico. As time goes on, the job requirement of ?bi-lingual? has progressed from a status of ?preferred,? to meaning a standard of ?required? on job postings. In fact for the most part, this requirement is false advertisement. In the vast majority of cases they mean Spanish speaker and the term bi-lingual is just an out to avoid criticism or litigation. My youngest daughter who is American Sign Language certified, was rejected at interview for two different jobs and was told ?what we meant was Spanish speaking?. Subsequently she has obtained employment but the frustration is real. Currently my wife who has been a stay at home grandmother for the past two years is back in the job market (she is a young athletic 50 for the record). She is college educated and has an extensive sales and management background. In the past 60 days she has been turned down for final interviews at least four times as she could not get past the phone screening interviewer when the fateful ? gee what we are really looking for is someone with your qualifications, but bi-lingual? speech. Contrary to the perceived tone of this I am not predudicial. I have hispanic adult family members and grand children. However my hispanic family will tell you that they get greatly annoyed by resident non English speakers who in many cases live here for years or decades without learning English, because they don't have to. And for the record, hablo espanol, es necesario para me trabajo.

It's like them telling you sorry you stay unemployed ill give this job to someone else who just got to this country but they speak Spanish. I am an American born citizen and can't find a job in my country. Where has the American dream gone? Why so I need to speak Spanish in HR??

Same as everyone else. Can't get a job due to not speaking Spanish. It's a nice thought to sign a petition however I doubt anything will be done about it. This country is catering to the minorities of foreign language. It is ridiculous. I'm sure it has something to do with corporate greed as well.

The politions started this with allowing millions to come here illegally to work. Thanks to Reagan they were given amnesty and never left. The companies hire them for cheap labor and displace american workers from these jobs. Due to nafta and other labor agreements most factory jobs left to operate in third world economies and pay little or no environmental, labor . wage restrictions ect. Most of the factory, labor and non skilled employment is currently being held by mexi ans. I am a health care worker, middle aged white female and out of work. As what is being discussed is true, all job postings require that applicants speak spanish. We have been and are being racially eliminated from our own country of origin. This was once mexico and it now is again. Who is going to pay for all the social programs when there is no more middle class. The dumming down of culture and society is the norm. Will they provide for us when the entire cities look like Tijuana? I doubt they will. Cultural genocide. Thank the pandering political system in place today. Vote Trump! Maybe he has got the balls to send em back.
