ITS RIDICULOUS. IT SHOULD BE AN ASSET TO SPEAK SPANISH NOT A REQUIREMENT, I AM EXTREMELY HARD WORKING AND HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A DECENT PAYING JOB IN TEXAS FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS. , MOSTLY BECAUSE I DO NOT SPEAK SPANISH.REPORT COMMENTS

So many jobs are taken from us Americans in the USA because the job description states "Bilingual a must" - it is discriminatoryREPORT COMMENTS

It is a shame that someone in their own country should be discriminated against for not speaking a foreign language.REPORT COMMENTS

I should not be asked, if I am bi-lingual in job interviews. I have interviewed for 4 jobs over the last 2 weeks and all of them have asked me if I speak Spanish. We live in America, why should I need to speak Spanish to get a job? These jobs pay between $11 and $15 an hour. Not even middle class jobs! The requirements that employers want now days are absurd. Those job reports and not enough qualified employees are BS. Just bring in more illegals and H1 and L1 Visa's let's continue to saturate our job market. And our government does not understand why we have income inequality, the writings on the wall. Just go look for a job yourself!REPORT COMMENTS

It really is becoming an issue. I do feel discriminated on because I do not speak Spanish. Especially in San Diego, CA if you are in the medical field you most certainly are limited in your job search and opportunity. It really a shame and very discriminator.REPORT COMMENTS

The Cubans have convinced major corporations HR DEPTS to list in job descriptions and hiring that you must speak Spanish to get hired WHEN THE JOB ENTAILS CALLING ON PEOPLE THAT MUST SPEAK ENGLISH LIKE DOCTORS AND NURSES. This severe discrimination against people who speak English only in the usa. Of course you don't need to speak Spanish to work in Miami. All professionals speak English unless a translator job is needed, in which 99% of the cases it's not. It's the way the Cubans locked out Americans from getting jobs in southeast Florida. It's a lie. I'm living proof, I called on Miami customers for years, the Hispanic offices do not block me from getting in nor do they not buy fro Me and they all speak English. It's a disgrace what Miami is today.REPORT COMMENTS

Unless you are a Spanish teacher, an ambassador to a Spanish speaking country, or a tour guide for Spanish speaking people, etc., I don't think that one should have to speak Spanish in order to work in the United States of America. Enough already!REPORT COMMENTS

I also have lost job opportunities because I don't speak Spanish. I have more experience and work history than most that are Spanish, yet I am offered a job like I have no experience. I have had my own company many times, and seems like the only way to get work these days.REPORT COMMENTS

I just moved to California and every job I qualify for I'm unable to apply for because the it states Spanish speaking required! I thought we lived in a English speaking country why do I have to know Spanish to have fair employment, this should be considered discrimination and needs to change so employers can't make this a requirement, you can have a degree but if your not bilingual a degree doesn't help you in getting the job you want!REPORT COMMENTS

I feel if you have all the necessary skills and qualifications... Born and raised...,have paid and earned a degree in my native English speaking country no one should be turned down for not speaking the native language... Its like going to China and say you must speak Spanish ....or going to Mexico and say you must speak Italian to get a job....its backwards and racist and discrimalotory... and heart breaking!...something needs to changeREPORT COMMENTS

I know im qualifies for several jobs that I unfortunately will never be able to get because I dont speak spanish. I gave up on even applying for many of them, because every job listing will say bilingual-spanish speaking preferred/required. Also, a few years back I went to school for 9 months for medical assisting, then externed at a sergeons office and volunteered at an urgent care for a year while I looked for a job. Of course never was able to get a job but a friend of mine (who was an illegal immigrant) had been working for a drs office for years with no schooling whatsoever. -_- she got me a job at a drs office too..and I could literally hear all the hispanic.workers saying they shouldnt have hired me because they need a.spanish speaker. (Im hispanic but born here so english is my native language but I.can.understand spanish) anyway, sure.enough, at the.end.of.my.first day, they let me go and said I just.wasnt what they were looking for. I recently became a substitute for secretary and clerical jobs with the school district. Sometimes when a job is available due to the absence of the permanent clerical employee, the text instructions will say : "Bilingual please," "Spanish skills extremely desirable," and "You must be a fluent Spanish speaker as our community is 95% Latino." Why would I accept the substitute position when I don't know Spanish? And if I show up and tell them that I don't speak it, they may look at me with disbelief and then anger that I even took the job and I'm not bilingual. People working in the school offices are most likely Mexican Spanish speakers and they only want their own people to work there and that is discrimination. Where will Americans who only speak English be able to work?REPORT COMMENTS
