Agree. I have been discriminated against for the same reason. However, I do speak what is referred to as Spanlish, but when asked if I am "bilingual", I answer "no" because I truly am not. I find Spanish speakers answer "yes" to the "bilingual" question, when it is not true. A different set of ethics exist AND it should be discriminatory to REQUIRE job seekers to speak another language, when the clientele are living in the USA.

This is a big issue for many people who are seeking employment. It's very common now days to see employers requiring Spanish speaking candidates and i think it's ridiculous, if any language should be required in this country it should be ENGLISH. Now people including myself are losing opportunities to pursue a job because I can't speak Spanish to accommodate those immigrants who moved here to US without knowing English? How the **** is this fair? I don't care where you're from, if you move here to US it better be the LEGAL way and if so, you should KNOW how to read, write and understand ENGLISH.

This is prevalent in California. A law firm should initiate a class action lawsuit for permitting this to continue.

How many complaints do we all have to post to get through for someone to wake up and finally take action on this subject?? I've worked continuously for 45 years and even held a day and night job at one time! Now I can't even find a warehouse or factory job I've been a clerical worker all my life. I've been out of work for 3 years and looking all day long everyday. How much more can I do? Why do we roll out the red carpet and the ground rules for foreigners? Do you think if I went to another country they would do that for me? No I would have to learn the language that's how it should go the CORRECT way!! I feel like I am barred from any job because I don't speak another language what about experience FIRST?? I will almost be collecting Social Security soon I prefer to work instead but have no choice. All of a sudden my work came to an end like a derailed train, I will make my own decision thank you when I want to stop working don't force me to stop!! After 45 years of working I will only get a measly $1000.00 how pathetic that's all?? I red an article in my newspaper for Florida about 3 years ago that stated foreigners when coming here to live get Stabilized rent, Medical, Dental and right off the bat $1,750.00 a month but I only get $1,000.00. Do you think people in another country would agree with that if I was treated better than their own people?? Get this subject taken care of already I think we have ENOUGH people complaining before we give our blood next!!!

Here is my problem with this whole mess, it is legal (according to the courts) to list Bilingual as a skill and therefore is not discrimination. Yet if a company only allows English to be spoken in the workplace, that is somehow discrimination. It is the double standard that is wrong. Then some people sit back and wonder why Americans are getting upset at the amount of immigration and Spanish special treatment being pushed on us.

What many people are not aware of is that Hispanic immigrants receive almost twice, double the amount, in welfare benefits than Americans. This unfair distribution in welfare handouts is only perpetuated when Social Service jobs hires bilingual, Hispanic workers. These bilingual workers provide more help to their own kind, than they do to an American. Why else have Hispanic immigrants been able to receive such a disproportionately high payout in government benefits?

Recently I have returned to the workforce after being a SAHM for over 20 years. When I began applying for employment I discovered many jobs, that I am qualified to perform, now require the applicant to be bilingual. I believe that we should not have to be able to speak another language in any industry in the U.S.

Came across an article that said American is becoming a bilingual nation. Also referenced that nevada tends to favor hiring bilingual applicants. Could not be further from the truth. I witnessed this first hand. I just happen to be living in nevada thanks to my husband. I have come across 13 ads that required or preferred Spanish speaking only. It's frustrating if your an American who does not speak Spanish. I feel as I am being passed up solely based whether I speak Spanish. Speaking Spanish should not be a job requirement.i was not aware of this treatment until I moved to nevada. I'm dismayed. Who what of thought that being discriminated was possible in America . I feel as if I'm living in some other country. Im all for learning to be bilingual. I don't feel that Americans should cater to one particular nationality. My parents are immigrants from Italy. Our primary language was English. We hope that this issue is addressed and government take action against any employer who favors Spanish speaking. Employees. This will only have an affect on our children.

In Miami Dade county Florida it's way out of control. Every single job requires Spanish. This is wrong and has to stop. This is America, this is an English speaking country and English is the only language that you should be required to speak here. Why the hell are we catering to immigrants....we never did in the past.

I agree that this is discrimination, it should not be a requirement in the USA, this requirement effectively blocks all Americans of African, Hispanic and European descent who cannot speak Spanish from getting a job in their country of origin. We are rapidly filling up lead positions in this country with people of Hispanic descent, this requirement for Spanish leads to an unfair advantage for who are first generation, and leaves those who were born and raised here out in the cold !!!

I am a non-Spanish speaking American, of Mexican descent. I look very Hispanic and have a "Spanish first name (debatable)." A lot of people assume that I speak Spanish and when they find out I don't it's like I'm under an inquisition as to why I do not. I work in one of the skilled positions, mentioned on this petition. A position that I have been training for and was developed for in that field had opened up recently and I was told in several non-direct ways that I was not going to get it, simply because I do not speak Spanish. I should not be chastised and harassed by clients for not speaking a language that they feel I should know. And I should not be denied a position, as a native-born American because I don't speak a language that is not our country's national language. Spanish as a language should be seen as a "skill," not a "requirement."

I think that it is fair to require bilingualism (Spanish) under certain circumstances, however, after growing up in South Florida, the pervasively bilingual culture that has grown has made finding work for English speakers (only) very difficult. If the standard is "you must be bilingual to live and work in Miami" then it would be prudent to include Spanish lessons during grades K-12 in South Florida, for those who do not grow up in Spanish speaking households. Otherwise, it is unfair for employers to require bilingualism across the board in Miami. Perhaps Spanish speakers should have more resources to learn English if it is such a problem.

This is one of the reasons Trump won. American's are tired of being outed in their own country. It should be, and I believe it already is a requirement to learn "English" to become an American citizen. However, the democrats have allowed "illegals" to take over. This is how they get their illegal votes to stay in power. Get your ticket and get on the Trump train before you get rear ended. I have never in my life had so much trouble to find a job. Any job at this point! It's like I'm living in Mexico and not the USA.

Why should I have to know Spanish to work in my industry? Who changed the laws and when? I work in the medical field and most job applications are requiring this a prerequisite to get the job. I looked this up and under Title Vll of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 it states this "violates the race and national orgin discriminatory provisions. I have a list of employers in the surrounding area up to a 50 mile radius that need to know this is not okay. It's in many industries of employment here in Southern California, I would like to know if there are any Lawyers handling these types of cases?

I don't care if immigrants are in this country, and I don't care if they ever learn english or not, but then shouldn't that be a two way street? If they don't have to learn English to get a job in a predominantly english speaking country, why should I have to learn Spanish to get a job in an enlgish speaking country? It isn't fair at all.

This is so DISGRACEFUL to an AMERICAN who worked HARD ALL THEIR LIFE!! Now all of a sudden my days of working are FORCED to STOP because I don't speak SPANISH really!! How many complaints to congress do we need before something is done? What are all of us Americans going to be homeless! because of a language? There must be a REQUIREMENT before the green card is given you must take classes to SPEAK, WRITE and COMMUNICATE CORRECTLY IN ENGLISH!! I have been looking for a job for 4 years and sometimes perfectly suitable for a position then you scroll to the end and there it is MUST BE BILINGUAL!! TOTAL DISCRIMINATION!!! Employers SHOULD NOT be able to post SPANISH ONLY!! How about the other way around ENGLISH ONLY then you will see them LEARN BUT FAST. Why must I go into a class to learn SPANISH, they should take a class to learn out language ENGLISH ONLY!!!! I'm ITALIAN and don't even speak my own language. It's like they can get a job JUST BECAUSE THEY SPEAK SPANISH does experience or degrees matter anymore. Experience means more than a language all these intelligent, qualified people that go through years of schooling only to be turned away because they don't speak SPANISH. I never went through this years ago in all my 55 years. So in order to make a dollar I have to wait 7 more years to collect Social Security benefits. If I went to another country would I get a job before their own people and all of them would have to speak English NO!!! Plain and simple if employers state in an ad English speaking you will see them all learn fast. Why do I have the BURDEN of learning a language I DON'T CARE TO SPEAK?? Please do something this is such a BIG PROBLEM!! PLEASE HELP THE SUFFERING AMERICAN THAT CAN'T FIND WORK due to a language barrier!! I would have NEVER thought the work force would come to this. HORRIBLE, UNFAIR ,DISCRIMINATORY and DISGRACEFUL!!! Please HELP me and everyone else in this same predicament!!

I struggled to find work because I was not bilingual. I should not be missing out on jobs in my own native country--where Spanish was not taught to children--because our government has decided it would rather cater to people who don't want to learn English rather than take care of our native citizens. If you want to make bilingual a requirement for jobs, then you must grandfather older workers in and put restrictions on bilingual hiring and begin teaching children at a young age. You should also put more requirements on immigrants to learn English. As others have said, I can't go move to a foreign country and expect them to cater to me by having English services. It's not fair to our citizens that we don't give immigrants any motivation to learn English--why would they when they can just do everything in their native tongue?
