I have 20 years of experience in the medical field as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician. I recently moved to South Florida and have been unable to find employment because I do not speak Spanish. This is totally discrimination. I should not have to speak a foreign language in my own Country.

Dear Congress PLEASE MAKE IT ILLEGAL TO REQUIRE I SPEAK SPANISH TO GET EMPLOYMENT....PLEASE!!! This Spanish speaking requirement to get a job in California and other states has led to massive joblessness for Americans who can't speak Spanish and who are not fluent in the language. THIS IS THE PROBLEM WE NORMAL, PEACEFUL, PRODUCTIVE, EDUCATED, LAW ABIDING CITIZENS have with immigration! I have had many job opportunities that I was well qualified for, many in where I scored exceptionally high on the pre employment exams, to later be told I didn't get the job because it requires that I speak Spanish. Well I don't speak Spanish, I speak English in America...Moreover, we as a nation has spent millions and millions of dollars to ensure that immigrants learn ESL for FREE... Now they are bilingual and we Americans are not...Furthermore, I can't find one place that will teach me and my children Spanishas a second language for free. This puts me and every other job seeking American at a grieve disadvantage...It is a fact that if a person is bilingual they are more powerful and has a definite advantage in life. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!..this practice of requiring or preferring Spanish speaking to get a job (feed myself and family), is the MAIN reason for the racial devide that's centering around immagration. This practice, which must be made ILLEGAL, inadvertently leads to unequally employment opportunities for all. In fact, there are hundreds of companies that only have one race working there, due to the wrongful practice of hiring those that can speak Spanish or Spanish and English. I love most all people. My family is heavily interracial....but I got be able to get employment in order to stay alive, eat, shelter, enjoy the simple things in life. AND I CAN NOT DO THAT IF I'M QUALIFIED FOR A JOB IN EVERY WAY BUT OOPS I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH, which I have tried to learn as an adult and it has proven to be very difficult! In conclusion we the American people ask of you wholeheartedly to make a LAW against employers requiring that I or anyone else that's otherwise qualified for employment (Careers), SPEAK SPANISH...it's just not right...Thank you

I'm tired of seeing employers post bilingul only! I don't think it is right for a bilingul person to get a job easy bast on being Spanish and English speaking over a skilled person for that same position

I have been out of work for quite some time now. I would say at least 7 out of 10 jobs that I have excellent qualifications for require the person be bilingual. I do not speak Spanish. I am not racist or prejudiced, but this is getting out of control. This is America we speak English.

I wrote on here before, a long time ago, and when I did I received an e-mail letter from U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein. This is the e-mail letter in full: "Thank you for your letter about bilingualism in the workplace. I appreciate hearing from you, and I apologize for the delay in my response. I understand that you feel that multilingualism is not a skill employers should prioritize in hiring decisions. Currently, federal law prohibits discrimination in hiring on the basis of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. However, federal law does not bar employers from seeking to hire multilingual employees. I appreciate knowing of your concerns about requiring multilingualism as a condition of employment. I also understand why it might be helpful in certain jobs for someone to speak multiple languages. Nevertheless, I will be sure to keep your comments in mind should relevant legislation come before the Senate for a vote." Wow. Just wow. So, there isn't a law prohibiting employers hiring based on a language, but if employers require Spanish then they are only going to get one race of people in their company and therefore that becomes a problem. Sure there are White, African-American and even Asian people who speak Spanish but the majority race who is getting the bilingual positions are Latin or Hispanic. Its a sort-of reverse Affirmative Action? Affirmative Action made sure there was diversity in a company mainly for African-Americans and women. Now there are entire staffs with Latin or Hispanics because they need to communicate with other Latin or Hispanics who refuse to learn English and there are no Whites, African-Americans or Asians in sight. All you need is one bilingual employee to translate but an entire office? It seems that once you hire one Latin or Hispanic, they only hire each other. So this cannot go on. Will we need to learn Arabic when the Syrian refugees make their way here? You betcha, because there are job postings for English/Arabic speakers in Lakeside, CA and El Cajon, CA. :(

I am tired of jobs based in the U.S. requiring that an applicant be bi-lingual in Spanish. This is America, how about not hiring people who don't speak English in the first place! I don't go to Chile, Mexico, El Salvador, Brazil etc and expect to be catered to in my native tongue in a foreign land so why should they? There used to be a time when immigrants came here and learned the language. The people really at fault are American companies for selling US (pun intended) out.

I have 3 kids to take care of . My husbands job requires us to live in South Florida however, trying to continue work in the health care field is impossible . I have the education and experience (from another state) , but because I do not speak Spanish I am "unqualified". I am in the United States ... How is this even right ?

There needs to be more diversity in the workplace not an entire staff of only Latino Hispanic Chicano Mexican especially at all the Fast food, Restaurants and Hospitality Industries. The Government should freeze any more "Immigration" and offer workshops and spanish lessons to all people in the U.S . that are forced to deal on a daily basis with these people that cannot speak English. I wish that the big shots in Washington DC would come down to the Border communities and see all the Diversity...at all the worksites what a Joke.

I feel like a an illegal in my own country. I am highly qualified for hundreds of positions that I have applied for, and every last one says that they require a spanish speaking person. This is so unfair. I dont dislike hispanics- but it is really making it hard for me not to. it is just business - my family need to eat too and i need a job.

I know its discrimination to all people except mexicans, why are they not asking for any other foriegn language only spanish speaking.. This is hindering well deserving Americans from getting jobs in their field or other jobs..This needs to stop immediately, because it is against the law to require an American to speak any other language than English..More people need to ban together an speak out to get these laws changed and hold the companys accountable for prefering Spanish...and why is it preferred when everybody doesnt speak spanish.

I think it is discrimination to give jobs only to bilingual job seekers. English is my first and only language despite my last name. Still I struggle to find work that does not discriminate and call me "a regular" applicant by the Department of Education!

Getting a job should be based on skill level. Instead, dummies are getting positions over qualified applicants solely because they speak Spanish.

IT is a terrible thing when you go into a store and all of the anoncments over the loud speaker are in Spanish. As you walk around the store you can hardly find an associate to help you in English.
