I have been living in Miami since 2015 and during the ongoing school year I work as an interpreter for the deaf. However, because I ran into some financial hardship during the summer, all I wanted was to do some temporary admin assistant work to get me through and I also was turned down even for temporary positions because I am not fluent in Spanish. It is very unfair and also a low grade form of discrimination. I cannot go to Mexico, Cuba or Puerto Rico and demand them to speak English JUST because I move there and so that same principle needs to be applied here in Miami, Florida USA.REPORT COMMENTS

Does the President of the United States speak fluent Spanish? Does Congress speak fluent Spanish? How many public servants on Capitol Hill actually speak fluent Spanish? I realize since you already have your political jobs (and translators) that you are not interested in whether American English speaking citizens have jobs or not! If it was a requirement for ALL POLITICAL candidates to speak Spanish, 90+ percent of all of YOU WOULD BE WITHOUT A JOB.....ENOUGH SAID!!! It is ever so obvious every day that English speaking Americans are discriminated against earning a living wage at the threshold of LANGUAGE DISCRIMINATION in their own country! It's wrong and all of you who do not do something to change it are GUILTY of taking away the ability for English speaking Americans to support themselves! LANGUAGE DISCRIMINATION ONLY HELPS FURTHER AGENDA'S HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH FULFILLING REQUIREMENTS OR SKILL LEVEL. How many of you in Congress speak Spanish?REPORT COMMENTS

Busted my but to get my degrees and credentials only to not be even considered for a job because I don't speak Spanish. Live in south Florida and the descrimination is ridiculous. This is America, people should be required to speak English to do the job. Bilingual is a plus but it shouldn't be required. I I have to be bilingual and speak Spanish but the person I'm working with speaks no kind of English. Something needs to be done about it.REPORT COMMENTS

I have gone to Costco and Subway and other places , and Hispanics only hire their own people. Most of them don't even have a high school Diploma. At Subway I ask the Hispanic man Behind the counter for a napkin , he had to get His Hispanic manager to see what I was saying. Most of them are Mexicans. These ignorant people laugh in your face. In Mexico they speak Spanish . In America our language is ENGLISH . We should go to Washington and protest. BS whites don't want jobs. We were having these jobs way before they came . Hispanics are blocking us in our own country and their not even educated.REPORT COMMENTS

I refuse to cater to Spanish speaking immigrants and their descendants and learn a second language and I refuse to be denied equal employment opportunities for only being able to speak the NATIONAL language. Language requirements are bogus unless you are seeking employment as a translator. I suppose I was too occupied taking advanced science and math courses in college so that I may better myself. I did not have time (nor the desire) to additionally become fluent in a second language. End employees ability to require "Spanish" for employment opportunities NOW. It is blatant discrimination and most of those "bilinguals" are underqualified in the aspects that count.REPORT COMMENTS

I think it would be beneficial to make Spanish a requirement for early childhood education. However, since it is not a current, universal requirement and has not been for the past two decades, as of now it is incredibly unfair to make being bilingual a job requirement for Americans. Learning and becoming fluent in a language is very difficult for children over the age of 12. Most students study it in high school and forget it. Unless they pursue higher education and grasp the language then, job seekers are put at a huge disadvantage.REPORT COMMENTS

I don't think it is right to have to learn SPANISH to get a job in AMERICA! WE shouldn't have to cater to people who come to our country (America) to learn their language! Anyone who comes to our country SHOULD HAVE TO LEARN ENGLISH! It SHOULD BE A REQUIREMENT TO WORK IN AMERICA! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!! IF I go to another country I would be expected to know their language why is it any different here!! I don't mind other people coming from other countries as long as they do it legally! Basically what the government is saying to people who was born & raised in America is we don't give a crap about you & its ok for illegals to come & change our country to their country!! America government doesn't care for the Americans!! They help all other countries but our own! Help them get jobs its ok if you don't speak ENGLISH YOU CAN WORK & MAKE AMERICANS SPEAK SPANISH! I have the hardest time finding a job ONLY BECAUSE I DON'T SPEAK SPANISH! I have been told many times you are very qualified but you DONT SPEAK SPANISH!! WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO?? I THOUGHT I LIVED IN USA NORTH AMERICA NOT MEXICO, OR ANY OTHER COUNTRY THAT IS THE NATIVE LANGUAGE!! OUR GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO FIX THIS! I AM SO MAD! AND I AM NOT ALONE!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I love hearing about how many jobs are available in America these days...only catch is they require you to be bilingual. I am not bilingual and I find it ridiculous that Spanish is a requirement. This is America. I didn't go to school to in the medical field for a few years to be told upon graduation that I can't be hired because I'm not Spanish speaking. What a waste of time, energy, MONEY THAT I DIDN'T HAVE. Something needs to be done about this situation. BLM has their movement...Americans in general need to have a movement of their own. Non-speaking people matter NSPM! I hope everyone on this site is contacting the better business bureau. There has to be a law out there that protects us. Like I said before, this is absolutely ridiculous!REPORT COMMENTS

I spent six years obtaining my Bachelors and Masters degrees. I have been unemployed for four months now. I have been on numerous job interviews and at each one I was asked if I spoke Spanish or Creole. Each time I say no, leaving me jobless. I have seen jobs published on sites that boldly state not to bother applying if you are not bilingual. I sat in a group interview with three other applicants and I could see the two Hispanic ladies receiving favor from a fellow Hispanic interviewer and the Haitian candidate receiving favor from her Haitian cohort interviewer. No offense, I was more experienced and intelligent than all of them. The. The question arises, "Who here is bilingual?". All were except me. Needless to say, they never called. I am sick and tired of Americans being treated like second class specimens in their own country. I hope Trump wins so he can put a stop to this hostile immigrant takeover.REPORT COMMENTS

Anyone living in America should know the language which is English. I cannot get a job unless I speak Spanish and I will not make it easier for them by learning their language. I am on unemployment now. Are you going to give me an extension (which no longer exists) to make it better for lazy people who don't want to try? Something has to change. Please be a part of a solution to help Americans.REPORT COMMENTS

They say the blacks and Hispanics have it hard. They get all the help while the whites are hung out to dry. I didn't get financial aid because I was white and now after college I can't get a job because I'm not bilingual. Here I thought going to college would help me make a future for myself but now it's only made be go in debt and become jobless. Thanks America for catering to the minorities. Now I'm a minority.REPORT COMMENTS

I am being kept at a part-time position with Sprint corporation after being there over a year. My boss literally filled out the application for this Spanish speaking girl so she could have the full time position just because she speaks Spanish. To me this is discrimination, but they say no. Oh and the CEO is Marcelo Claure who is a Bolivian-American that's trying to turn Sprint into an all around South American only company. Not English speaking American friendly. I am growing more and more disappointed with this country the older I get and I'm only 25.REPORT COMMENTS
