I am in 8th grade, and homework takes a huge chunk of my life away from my family. I do about 2 hours a night and get only about 6 hours of sleep.

I am still in high school and have struggled with depression from the amount of homework given to me and am still very stressed out from it. Homework should be given in relation to how we learn, not taken as a necessary task. Teachers assign "busy work" every single day and it really adds up. 45 minutes of history. 30 minutes of algebra. 60 minutes of Biology. 15 minutes of Spanish. 40 minutes of English. That is how much I've come to expect on a nightly basis. That is not including projects, reports, and studying. Many homework assignments are not even on things we have learned. Teachers assign homework as a way for them to skip lessons in class, forcing students to learn entire topics on their own. It is completely unnecessary and adds loads of stress to do work which is made irrelevant once we graduate and move on into adult life.

I'm in high school, & am overwhelmed everyday with the stack of homework i have every night. Having to balance out school with after school activities can be hectic. Having less of homework would help a lot.

I don't see how forcing kids to do homework is in any way helpful. Expecially kn days like Wednesday when most of us have church and things to go to. Not only does it really mess with our schedules, family time, and morals, but it also seems to cause a lot of stress. Many kids these days are very troubled by homework and it can put people in a state in which they can't recover from. Homework is ruining our lives, I'd recommend you limit it, ban it on Wednesday or just get rid of it. I'm tired of spending 4 hours a day in homework and 8 hours at school. You might as well extend school.

I'm growing extremely weary of this homework! It makes me think that the teachers think we have no lives, but I want to change that. Homework does nothing, but stress people out and make them too anxious for their own good. I'm a freshman and after many years of homework given in previous years and the Religion project I must do now, I'd say it's time for homework to die! Let's all join together and make homework banned for all of eternity!

I am a highschool student that is spending hours every single night just to complete assignments that are nothing more than busy work. With extra curricular activities and a part time job, the stress of more school outside of school is at times simply unbearable. It is not healthy physically or mentally to have such a work load when we are still so young.

Although it may seem extreme, I am one of many people who grew up avoiding, cheating through, or half-finishing homework. Why? Because it added nothing to my learning process, instead just took time out of my day from other homework, projects, after school activities, family, friends, and later in highschool and college, my job. Most students either find homework embarrassingly easy, as they can just copy word-for-word, the answer out of a book, or exceedingly difficult to finish.. and the sad truth is that those who struggle to finish it are often under-supported in their home life, which makes homework just a slap in the face, or have too much on their plate already. I remember always getting the most benefit doing homework at the end of class- "in-class homework", they called it. By the time I'm home, I'm too filled with duties and other thoughts, I am no longer in a learning mode. This is the same for most adults, and children can identify the hypocrisy for what it is. If their parents don't come home from 8 hours days with hours worth of homework, why should students? It's referred to as "busy work". Many teachers are fully aware of the pointlessness, being forced to give homework merely to appease curriculum. I dare say that it seems more designed to help already struggling or impoverished children fail, while those with resources and support will find the means to finish it.. whether or not they've retained the information, or if they had someone else walk them through it, or do it for them, entirely. Our public schools are horrendously out-of-date and run more like institutions and prisons. It's about time those in power either change it, or admit to what it really is for. I urge any senators to vote for more progressive learning environments and not ones that waste time and money.

The problem with homework is that 9 times out of 10 we don't learn anything from it (excluding math). If i had anything to say about it I'd make school longer by a little bit, and homework cut out. -8th grade student

Kids already have enough by going through school. Homework makes learning boring and a dreaded job to students. Homework was originally used as a punishment from a teacher to his students and it fundamentally is nowadays. It really is horrible. PLEASE BAN HOMEWORK!!! -8th grade student

As a parent, I believe that schoolwork should be done at school, home is for family time. The last thing I want is for my children to be stressing at such an early age and adding more stress for me.

I have multiple bursts of homework that take more than 6 hours to complete. I'm in honors and Pre-AP classes but regular classes get around the same amount. Not getting enough sleep... is that what school systems want?

I don't understand why we should go to school for 7-8 hours and have to go home and continue to learn.. Don't we need a break?
