Here in Wyoming horses are part of our livelyhood, but since the no slaughter act has gone into effect, it is increasingly harder to breed and keep them as the prices have dropped to an all time low. I currently own 30 hores. I make my living by breeding and selling quarter horses. I have owned horses for over 40 years and I have NEVER seen the market so bad. I have also never seen so much suffering, thin horses or sick horses that people can not afford to call a vet for because of the economy. These are 1000 lb animals, livestock, not pets. There needs to be a system in place to harvest them. The closing of the harvesting plants (you called them slaughter plants) is killing the horse business and causing a painful,slow death for old, crippled or otherwise unuseable horses. We don't do this to our pets, why is it acceptable to let these horses suffer like this?REPORT COMMENTS
