this is so important to the human treatment of horses, folks that can't take care of old sick horses are just turning them out in the"wilds" to die, this way is so much better for them.REPORT COMMENTS

One only has to look around in any rural part of the country to see how the horse industry & the horses in general have suffered tremendously since the closure of the processing plants. What we needed instead was a revamping of the slaughter system from sale barn, through transportation, all the way through the animal being rendered brain dead - ALL done in a humane manner. If S. 1176 is allowed to pass into law, I can't even begin to imagine how much more horrible it will be for the tens of thousands of more horses added to the starving & abused population of horses we are now seeing. PLEASE reinstate the processing plants & help the horse industry to become a viable & stable market once again.REPORT COMMENTS

There are more abandoned and starving horses in the US than ever before. Humane slaughter must again become available.REPORT COMMENTS

I do not feel that the suffering and neglect of equines is a better option than humane processing.. If you truly care you will restore this option to the equine industry.....REPORT COMMENTS

There are just too many horses, not enough hay in the central part of the US, and grain prices are only rising. 6 months ago I comfortably fed 4 horses. Now it is as if I am feeding 10. The cost is almost too much to bear. I own a show filly that would normally sell for over 2000, but with the flood of unwanted/unuseful/dangerous horses she is only worth about 100. I cant give her away, or sell her cheap for fear that the next person will be unable to feed her as well. I know of 10 different pastures that contain horses that are in need of care, they are nothing but skin and bones, if the slaughter houses were open, it would end their suffering and compensate the owner, and put a hardworking american to work. Horses are livestock. They have many uses, when the slaughter houses were closed it shattered towns and homes. Lets rebuild parts of America that were destroyed and get rid of the overflow of hroses at the same time.REPORT COMMENTS

Anyone who truly cares about horses can see that processing plants are the only way volumes of horses can be handled humanely - greatly reducing suffering.REPORT COMMENTS

I am discouraged that animal rights activists convinced horse lovers - by selectively informing the public what the effects of their success in passing the bill that would ceasing horse processing in the U.S.REPORT COMMENTS
