Making it against the law to transport horses will lead to further abandonment, neglect and suffering of horses in the future.

If they outlaw transportation all unwanted horses should be hauled to the whitehouse lawn.

It is time to use common sense, and yes, compassion, in returning to horse owners the ability to provide regulated, timely ending of their horses' lives. The radical, short term thinking has brought us to this place in time--many thousands of horses starving, neglected, abandoned, etc. We and they deserve better than that.

Not only are horse slaughter facilities important for the horse industry to regain economic viability, but to improve the welfare of horses. Those who pushed the ban wear blinders and forget the harsh impacts that it actually had on the welfare of horses. Wouldn't you much rather see a horse humanely slaughtered and processed than dying from starvation and needlessly suffering?

Real horse people know that reopening horse slaughter will end a lot of suffering for neglected horses, raise our economy, and create jobs! It needs to be done!! There are too many horses from backyard breeders who are being neglected, not used, and are throw aways. Horses are LIVESTOCK!

I believe that HUMANE horse slaughter is an unfortunate necessity of the horse industry. A ban on horse slaughter has only served to increase the amount of horses who suffer neglect, abandonment and abuse, and decrease the value of horses in general. I love my horses, and can afford humane euthanization, but there are many who can't and humane horse slaughter offers the only viable option...don't make these horses suffer - give them a humane way out via FDA/ USDA regulated horse slaughter - don't send them abroad where we have no way to regulate how they are treated and killed.

Horse slaughter plants need to re open - every part of an animal is used in some sort of bi-product.

Our industry has declined since the closing of our local horse slaughter plants. The only way to restore our industry and stop the suffering of long trips to plants outside our country that are unregulated is to reopen out plants.

If regulated processing is restored, it would automatically put the professional 'non-profit' rescues out of business. Some of these rescues are bad, bad news.
