I happen to be among the unlucky ones who purchased a home in 2008, qualifying for the 7500 tax credit. I first opted not to apply for the credit until I was contacted by my real estate agent after close of escrow to be informed that the credit was to be amended, so that it would not need to be paid back since those who purchased in 2009 received 8000, which they could keep, so long as they kept the home for at least 36 months. I confirmed that this was to happen with a tax lawyer, then I filed a 1040X with the 5045 form in mid 2009 to claim my 7500 credit. I continued research after, and I thought I had seen that the credit was forgiven, but I just received my notice from the IRS that my first installment is due with this year's taxes. I find this to be morbidly outrageous! Not only do those that received 8000 get to keep their money, they also purchased at a lower point in the declining market. Those of us who purchased in 2008 are more underwater in our mortgages than those who purchased in 2009, and we still have to pay back the credit we received as our "incentive" to buy in the first place. There's even a warning that, if one was to sell, rent, or foreclose on their home, they may be required to repay the tax credit "loan" in full. Does the government really want to contribute to keeping people stuck in their homes. What about those who must move out of state to pursue advancement in their jobs or even those who must leave their city or state just to get another job. I really hope this can be amended because it is not fair. I'm sure many of us would not have taken the credit in the first place had we known it was to remain being considered as a 15-year loan from the government.

this is extremely unfair that we are required to pay this back when thousands of others bought houses a little later and have to do none of this. this is creating a serious hardship for thousands

I would NEVER have taken a LOAN from the federal government. This was a 2008 homebuyer tax credit. I cannot believe that the 2008 homebuyers are being burdened with paying back a tax credit and the 2009-2010 do not have to. The 2008 homebuyers should retroactively be grandfathered into the the same 2009-2010 actual tax credit. Jennifer B., Dayton, Ohio

I am just one person on a long list of those that fell into believing this "tax credit," or should I say "tax loan;" did't have to be paid back. I wouldn't have ever taken the money if I knew it had to be paid back. Then, to turn around and give out $8,000.00 FREE to people the following year is absurd! It's rediculous to think that those of us that did our part to help this great country get out of a slump are having it stuck to us. The 2009 "gift" to first time homeowners was extended a few times. Why wasnt that extra money saved in order to, at the very least, decrease the payment for those of us whom purchased a home in 2008!? I know life isn't fair, but this isn't going to help anything in the long run. It will simply make it worse by taking money out of peoples hands during tax time.

I was one who fell into believing that this tax credit was one for 1st time home buyers and little did I not know(thanks to H&R block not advising us that it was a loan)we had to pay it back. Its seems unfair that the same tax credit was ordered into 2009 and this does not have to be paided back. Its alot of money, money that we could use. It will put a big dent into our income if this is not over turned. I am hoping that this matter is given full view, so tax payers like myself do not find our selves having to find means to pay back what the government owes us. I am a veteran and I never asked any payment from country to defend it. I defended my country because I am proud to be an American. We are hoping that you will do the same. In times when we are suffering economically, this would put a huge dent in my spending. So, we need your help.

It just seems as though we are being treated unfairly with regard to paying the credit back when 2009 and 2010 recipients do not have to pay it back at all. I feel discriminated against! Please Congress change the rules to be applied fairly across the board.

I really appreciated the tax credit when it was offered! But with everyone else getting it without strings, it seems fair to release us from repayment. It would really help me personally in this difficult economy.

We are a family struggling in this economy like anyone else. The housing market crashed, and i think our family did our part to help re-build it. We bought a home in 2008. Unfortunately, we bought it a few months to soon. Unfair we have to pay back this credit, while the following year does not.

This is completely not fair. I have family members who received $8000 credit and do not have a repayment plan.

I was told that the 7500 was retro?d so that we wouldn?t have to pay it back when I did my taxes. I received my letter from the IRS two days ago stating that I had to pay it back. My Brother got the 8000 for purchasing his house. I?m not mad at him, I am mad at our government. Wall Street got billions and once again the honest hard working American people that still purchased homes for the first time trying to keep the economy going while it was spiraling downward get the short end of the stick. This makes me sick to my stomach. I have busted my butt to get into my house, work on it to make it a home and I get told that if I don?t want to have to pay the money back I need to sell it and make no profit. I bought my house for my wife and I to live in, not to make 7500 off the government and lose my butt with all the fees and what not. Congress needs to write off the money and try to collect somewhere else.

Graduated college, got married, bought a house. Did what I thought was good and took the tax credit, but then a Democrat starts giving money away as usual. Do the right thing Washington.

It is absolutely rediculous that the federal government is overlooking this and turning their backs on middle class citizens. How unfair it is that a person who closed on Dec 30th 2008, has to pay back $7500 and a person who closed on Jan 01, 2009 get's more money $8000, and doesn't have to pay a penny. It's obvious the government is owned and run by the bankers. They gave themselves a big fat bailout and continue to stiff the middle class. THANKS A LOT!

Me and my wife are hard working Americans. We both have good jobs, we work hard for the money we make. We are smart with our money; we pay all of our bills on time, we have no credit card debt, and we don't spend money on extravegant things. Unfortunately, this does not leave us with much breathing room, money-wise. The reward for being a good, hard working American family who bought their first house in 2008 was a "credit" from the government in which I now have to pay $500 a year for the next 15 years. This is ridiculous. This did more harm than good for ANYONE who received this "credit." You are penalizing the hard working families in this country who are struggling just to get by. This payback needs to be repealed. I can't afford to give up any more.

Please reconsider making people pay back the $7500 first time homeowners credit. This was presented as an incentive, not as a loan that had to be paid back over 15 years. It is also completely unfair that people that bought houses in 2009 got more money and don't have to pay it back.

Time to make this right before people have to file their 2010 tax returns. Forgive this loan in appreciation of the economy we helped by homes, improving our homes and paying additional taxes.

I bought my home in 2008 and now here it is Nov. 2010 and my home has depreciated 35%. All I accomplished was getting myself into a world of debt! I wish I never bought the home, at least if I diddn't have to repay the $7500 it would help!
