My son makes his child support for his son the state garnish his wages it's there rule, he does not get enough to support his household ,but the mother of his son is married an just had another child and can claim two so my sons support goes up because another child that's not his ,how fair is this it's not, how would it feel if the shoe was on the other foot, when you have your child come for his time with you and the child asks why can"t you buy me new shoes do you tell them your mother gets the money from me ask her why she does not buy you them, because I can not afford them daddy only gets 600.00 to live on this is 2012. The economy is high prices who can afford any thing for a month, when mommy and step dad who works an they have another baby that your daddy has to pay for this not right some laws need to change to make this right!May 24th, 2012Someone from Yakima, WA writes:
In the state of washington it the worst in the U.S if a woman files for child support without a paternity test send the paperwork to a previous address of your and you don't respond within 60 days it goes into default judgement so you become the father and child support is attached without a blood test and they tell your there in the business of establishing not disestablishing so you stuck with child support until you pay for a costly lawyer and fight in court for something you knew nothing about...NOW AIN'T THAT SO SH....TREPORT COMMENTS

child support laws are ridiculous. I thought child support was supposed to help children, not punish non custodial parents. I can't afford to do anything when my kids are with me because I give all of my money to their father, who makes more money than me. I have to work 51 hours a week, every week, to actually gross the amount of money that my child support order is based on. wtf. I raised my kids before the divorce, and didn't spend 1000 dollars a month on 2 kids. The child support laws are crazy as hell. I was eager to pay support for my kids, I had no idea the courts would decide I get no money to live on. I cant afford medical benefits and I have a chronic illnes that requires medical care I can't afford. If the laws were reasonable, more father's would probably gladly pay child support instead of dodging the law resulting in more children being taken care of.REPORT COMMENTS

Well our situation is even more bizzare. We have 4 kids. The oldest molested the others & the govt won't charge him. So now he's living with family who went on assistance. Now they want an amount that's insane. To top it off the kids who were victimized by this kid are now paying a price because the law didn't do its job. So the victimization continues. First it was physical, mental & emotional, now its financial.how can they allow this! I would never have to pay for someone who sexually abused me! The amounts don't make any sense. Why does one child need so much more than the others?we have 3 but only get to claim 2. What is that!? If this kid were in my home he'd be lucky to see 1000 for the whole year, let alone a month!REPORT COMMENTS

If a father is made to work than a mother should have to do the same. Women go out and find random men to get them pregnant then live off the father. It is insane that the mother should not have to maintain a job.REPORT COMMENTS

In some cases where either side has anything to amount the struggle is great like wise.I am a pastor and single parent of 3 evry young gilrs ages 6-7and 11 living with me by court order..It had been that way for 4yrs.Didnt start getting support until last year..However;I have a older child who is about 17 and Child support has a $1000.00 bails against me for jail..My 3 girls and I have live well below the poverty level nearly 4 years..My younger child gets SSI.I give toward child support what I can out of it at times..Not sure if that's right or not to do..Havent had a steady job in years..The courts have fipped back and forth of who job it was to lower my payments with child support office..Wow!I have back injuries and a case up with SSI and Iam now there is a court order to lock me up from my 3 children..My case worker told me on yesterday to give the kids back to the mother...Really!!!? This so called child care office wants me to place these 3 girls back in the line of drug sellers and dope users..? Just to lock up a pastor who is behind on child support..I've giving to my oldest child each time I have it to give although its not reported or show on their records, but yet I do support that child...My pastorship does not bring much..Let's try $50.00 a wk..Living in the projects..These 3 girls unlike my oldest child dont have out side family help or aid..It's just me alone..could'nt work much because of my baby girls condition and the problems she have in school and with doctor appointments..Illness has set in and this pastor is tired..REPORT COMMENTS

I find it appalling that there is no consideration of the custodial parent's living expenses. Example: my ex wife live with her boyfriend who is an Army Captain and recieved $1650/month tax free. At one point I was paying ~$2000/month. Clothing is not that expensive& Niether is food. It becomes a subsidy for her to have fun. If the money was used for rent, utilities and so forth I would be fine. You cannot tell me that the awarded amount isn't excessive when she works as a RN full time.REPORT COMMENTS

Absolutely. I'm in this situation. It doesn't matter how much money a father makes, once the parents are separated, the mom should have to go to work to support her children just like the dad. I don't care if the mother has to work at McDonalds. The father shouldn't have to pay support until the mom proves employment. My ex lies around on her lazy behind collecting child support and state benefits like food stamps, child care, etc. The state doesn't even care! I mean, here I am, always taken good care of my children, and hey won't give them to me to live. They would rather her be paid support and be on state benefits on the backs of tax payers.REPORT COMMENTS

While working a well stable job for the state of Florida I became divorced paying $900.00 a month for 2 children. Not a problem at all! I lost my job in 2011 due to government budget cuts. Here it is 2012 one year later after I lost my job, working a part time at $7.65 hr. After several attempts of modification Child Support Enforcement still has me paying $900.00 a month. One can only imagine the amount of back child support at this time. The system is fast to collect, and very very slow to adjust. Something needs to be done to resolve this bottleneck!REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that child support should be paid to the welfare office and deposited onto a benefits card so it can only be used for the same things public assistance can be used for. That makes the most sense. It's child support, not alimony.REPORT COMMENTS

Child support laws should be eliminated. A court of law has no influence on the contribution of each parent or the cost of raising a child in an intact family, therefore a court of law should have no influence on the cost or contribution of raising a child in a family that is no longer intact. Imputing income to establish support is no different than inflating one's income to qualify for a mortgage. Perhaps the "child support system bubble" will burst just like the housing bubble. Just like the big banks - Non Custodial Parents need a bailout from the government. EQUAL RIGHTS AND JUSTICE FOR ALLREPORT COMMENTS

I make $9.80 an hour. I pay $130.00 wk in child support and $44.00 a week on chapter 13 bancruptcy that i had to do because i cant afford anything anymore because of the child support laws! This needs to be made equal to both parties! I cant afford a place of my own, cant feed myself! because I have a job i cant get food assistance from the state. You idiots made these stupid laws without thinking!? sombody up there is getting rich off this or it wouldnt be happening the way it does. I have a good mind to throw it all away and stand up for the poor men and women that are stuck in this out of date law enforcement! I know if I try and fight this system, I will be hung from a rope in the courts! but, maybe my execution would open the eyes of the government and GET THIS LAW CHANGED!!! To put this in perspective? You have a very old machine in your shop at work, Lets say it a 10,000lb press. the press has been there since the 70's and it has worked for years, but very dangerous to work because its old and there are no safe guards installed because of its age? some minor injuries over the years but nothing done to increase the saftey of this dangerous machine? Why? because its a very important tool that makes the "BOSS" alot of money. Then, one day out the blue, This machine of so many years cut a fellow employee's hand off at the wrist! Word gets out about this old, dangerous, tired machine. Forcing the owner "NOW" to change how the old machine run's! he has to install saftey shields, guards and a complex device that WILL NOT ALLOW A PERSONS HAND TO EVER BE CUT OFF AGAIN!! Its a shame that everywhere something drastic has to happen before anyone will step up and do what "THEY KNOW" is the right thing to do! N.A.S.C.A.R. once ran there races with nothing but a lap belt! over the years of people getting hurt severly they now have shoulder straps, full face helmets, fire suits, gloves ect...all because "THERE OFFICIALS" did what they had to do to make there fellow men and women equally safe.REPORT COMMENTS

Missouri child support laws are ridiculous. Should a non-custodial parent fall behind on payments and have arrears, the order of sanctions is: 1. Have license suspended or revoked 2. Be charged with a felony and/or spend jail time Umm... ok? So you aren't able to afford that astronomical $714/month payment for one child? Let's take your license so you can't get to work! And if that doesn't do it, let's put you in jail, where you have no way of earning an income, until you pay ALL your arrearages! Any idiot can see the twisted irony in that. In addition, why doesn't the custodial parent have to provide proof that the cold-hard cash being handed over to them is spent on the child? Why aren't they drug-tested? Missouri wants to start drug-testing recipients of welfare to ensure the benefits go to their intended cause. Same should go for child support. Lastly, why isn't the entire household of each parent being taken into consideration instead of just the parent's income? If the non-custodial parent re-marries & starts a new life/family, why isn't the expense of his family's costs considered when figuring how much he pays in child support? Be freaking' realistic! A man that brings in $1000/month CANNOT afford a $714/month child support payment! And he can't have a modification for THREE YEARS?! It's stupid. The majority of custodial parents (mostly women) have manipulated and taken advantage of this state's ridiculous regulations in order to help THEMSELVES, not their children. These laws claim to be in "the best interest of the child." What the F* ever! It is not helping the child when the father is so financially broken he can't function.... then gets put in jail over it. Who seriously thinks that's ok?!REPORT COMMENTS

I was married for 2 weeks in 2004 and she decided to let the father of her first child be raised by her ex husband and said that if I stayed out of their lives that she would never file child support so I accepted. It would be less confusing for the child in the long run and all would be better off. Now7 years later, I have been out of work for medical reasons and my wife is the sole income, she wants to come at me for child support. I even offered to sign over my rights so that other guy could adopt her. All they want is the money or me in jail. I know this girl, she has taken advantage of the system for years and will get away with it for many more years to come. I am in Dallas, TX and she is in Colorado Springs. First of all they need to decide WHO is more financially stable to support the child without having to go after the other arent for two arms and two legs. The child did not get here by one person, it should not be only one person supporting ( with the Georgia Child Support Guidelines that are way outta control) the child should be raised by both parents It hould be a 50/50 custody and living with no money changing hands. That way each person is gets treated fair. ANd for those that think the household incomes should be equal, well I think it is time for someone to get a better education or get out and work hard as the other to make the same money. Come on people how many of you that has passed this law to begin with have paid this kinda god forsaken amount of money and you have had to live almost homeless and go hungry, been jailed for not paying because you can't afford to live and pay the amount the law sets. Let's get reasonable here. Either do split custody and each pay while they have the child or children, or the child live with the parent that is more financially able to care for the child or cut the dang support down to what it takes to actually take care of a child a week with a 50% of support that way both parents pay to take care of a child or children that they both reated. Stop Punishing People for having kids.REPORT COMMENTS
