I think it should be called by its real name, STATE SUPPORT. The deeper I looked into the system the more I just shook my head in disbelief. I live in California and thought it was just this screwed up state that has nonlogical laws ( Alows Illeagal Aliens and gives them a DL while taking DL and arresting citizens that can not afford childsupport) Then I saw how it is country wide problem. One LLC in Denver Colorado decides many states "Child support" guidelines, inculding the $Golden$ state of California. It is a big money wheel. In 2007 I had just started a new job. It was a driving job starting off at $10 a hour $1200 a month. I was paying $850 a month for a small one room appartment, plus water & electric bill. Child support orders were $640 a month set by the guidelines of a LLC in Denver. I was told if I didn't make a payment of $500 my DL would be taken away. I didn't have the money. A month later I didn't have a DL, or job, or appartment. Now homeless the money owed kept climbing. In Aug 2013 I went to jail for contempt of court (the tax payers paid to house and feed me, no money came off of what a I owe). If you jump the border and invade this country, you get a DL and are not arrested. If you are born here and "owe" the state money you go to jail, no DL, they will even take away a fishing license in all 50 states (Fed law 666 no joke) As I shake my head, the big wheel keeps on turning.Feb 11th, 2014Someone from Houston, TX writes:
i think the child should live half a yr with a parent and half with the other... both should pay child support because is very unfair to make one parent pay child support for 18yrs while the other parent uses the money however they please..REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that the custodial parents should be given more financial responsibility than just be allowed to sit at home and collect on the non-custodial parents child support payments. Just because a woman has a child should not entitle her to receive support payments and not have to work or provide financially for the child that she wished to have in the first place. In several cases, the father has no say in the matter whatsoever and is forced to pay. In California, for instance, it is simply assumed that the child support payments go to the needs of the child but there is no proof and according to the system there does not need to be any proof of this. So how do we know if the money is going to what it was ordered for? Also, the courts should look more closely into what the payments are derived from in the non-custodial parents' income. For example, no one brings home or lives off of their gross income. It's not fair to those who make an honest living trying to support themselves as there are several living and medical expenses, especially those who have diseases, such as Diabetes, that require costly medical supplies on a monthly basis in order to sustain life which courts don't seem to recognize. Why should non-custodial parents become destitute? This leads to making potential criminals out of honest men just trying to get by on living for themselves and, in increasingly difficult economic times, even suicides. In order to fulfill the best interest of the children, the parents must also be able to support themselves as no one is worth anything dead.REPORT COMMENTS

When deciding child support many things should be accounted for, which included but are no limited to, the mothers income and jobs, but especially the fathers bills that need to be paid before coming up with a child support estimate. Bills should include rent and or mortgage, utilities and electricity, insurance on home and car, and any other expenses that may leave a father without an adequate amount to live off of once child support is estimated.REPORT COMMENTS

I pay $550.00 dollars a mouth plus I have to cover all medical expenses I pay for her insurance and that's 180.00 that covers me too. But and the child support tells me her mom doesn't have to work. She doesn't work because she got married to some other guy and had another kid and has to say home so I have to pay more because of it. Just not right.REPORT COMMENTS

As a divorced mother with three children and remarried to a man with two children, I have seen and expetienced both sides of the frustration. My exhusband does not get a weekly paycheck, so if there's no check to him there's no check to my kids. The problem with this is he is an owner-operater truck driver, meaning he can take cadh advances during the week leaving him no check at the end of the week. I've mentioned this to my case worker but nothing is done. On the other hand, my husband has paid his child support faithfully on time and reveals all his income during his reviews. The exwife is a waitress and doesn't reveal her taxes. She also doesn't include or pay taxes on the $9000 she gets anually for alimony. When brought up during the review we are told "prove you pay it". It comes thru the same c8unty payment. They take alimony and child support out. It's in their computer system, but wenhave to hire a lawyer to get them to acknowledge their work? I'm all for supporting our children, but both parents should share the responsibility and both should be held to the same honesty system.REPORT COMMENTS

It should be a requirement for mothers who collect child support to furnish a W-2 each year, along with verification of daycare expenses (if they work). If they do not work, they should be forced to show proof that they are trying to find employment. There is no reason why the mother should expect the father to take care of all the expenses the child incurs - you BOTH made the child, you BOTH should be responsible for paying for expenses. There are too many women who get the father for all they can financially simply because they are angry that the relationship went sour.REPORT COMMENTS

I think it is ridiculous that the custodial parent need not to account for how he/she spends the child support money! Child support should be used for the child not the custodial parent cost of living! Support payments are high enough the way it is so why in the world in State of Indiana should custodial parent get 15% of non-custodial parents overtime pay when custodial parent is working a much more than min. wage job and pays no rent etc. Sad shame the non custodial parent is paying not for the childs needs or wants, but rather what the mother wants! Child support should be Taken OFF as a credit on annual income and the person collecting it should be the one that pays taxes! Indiana is getting avsolutely ridiculous and seems to be punishing the non-custodial parent that pays far more than his fair share! Lets make accountability mandatory for those that get child support and make sure it is used on the child. Perhaps the child needs a special account where the money is safe instead of using it for car payment and cell phone bills and the child rarely sees the custodial parent. Indiana while your at it make sure reviews are done quite often to make sure that the non-custodial parent is NOT over-paying as in a case where I know for a fact is happening. This just makes me sick the women that want to live a higher lifestyle using child support while the non-custodial parent works himself to death. Come on Indiana the non-custodial parent has true expenses and should be allowed to live.REPORT COMMENTS

I am military. I PCS'd to Korea for a year to be able to move from Oklahoma to California to be a little closer to my children. Because of that, my ex changed the jurisdiction from OK to CA. Now my child support is probably going to be raised from 600 (OK standard) to 1800 (CA standard). I get the cost of living is higher but it's higher for me as well. How will I take care of my current wife and child getting only half of my paycheck?REPORT COMMENTS

I think child support should be taken off of your annual income and those that collect it should have to pay taxes on it. Some people collecting think that its ok to sit back on their rear ends collecting child support and not work while the person paying the child support pays all the taxes. Also a federal system of how much should be paid needs to be put into place, the difference that each state makes people pay is ridiculous, then one doesn't talk to the other and they make mistakes and try to steal your money even though you have been paying the one state.. It all needs to be unified.REPORT COMMENTS

I think this is all bull****. I have equal time with my children as my ex. She left me four years ago, I didn't have to pay child support just help with food. She lied through her teeth about me helping which I did. Now I pay because I make a little more than she does, I started out owing 1400 right off the bat because she waited 2 months to file with DSS and I am the one who is the jerk for owing. I called dss the day I got the paperwork to set up payments and they said I had to wait because she had to file the paperwork. Who designed this system, I pay, I should be able to start right away. Just another way to take the power out of being a father.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a father with 2 boys in my custody. The mother owes child support to me. She has a kid with another man, and one with another. She lets them claim her other kids on taxes so she don't have to pay back child support with taxes. This way she still gets her claim through them, and because of this she gets help food stamps insurance and all the above. She doesn't work (only under the table) or pay on child support. She is claiming she has no income. She is working the system and saying she has no means to support herself when in fact she is living with her new boyfriend and he is supporting her and her children, without claiming he is in fact supporting them, and claiming them on his taxes. Is this legal?REPORT COMMENTS

My husband pays child support and has since his divorce. We have his kids 50% of the time and we supply bedrooms, clothes, food, and all the other necessary items for when they are with us in addition to paying over $400 a month in child support. His ex-wife, works full-time, is re-married to man who works full-time and they all live in her parents home. She has no over-head bills for herself or the children, as her parents pay for eveything (she herself admits to this). How is this fair? I understand that when the system was created the circumstances and the times were different, but society needs to take a look at things now a days and adjust accordingly. For the record, I have three children from a previous marriage as well, and I do not receive or pay any child support for my children. This was not an easy feat, as my ex-husband and I had to fight the courts to allow us to do things this way, how sad is that?REPORT COMMENTS

Parents who pay child support should at the very minimum get a tax break for child support OR the tax credit every other year. Why should the parent receiving child support get all the tax credits along with child support? In Montana, the residing parent can refuse to sign for the non-custodial parent to get a tax break. When did it become the custodial parents right to decide federal tax break decisions?REPORT COMMENTS

If it takes two people to make a child then both parents should have to work to support the child. My husband works very hard to do his part while his ex-wife sits on her butt along with her husband and does nothing but make trips to both mailboxes to get the child support checks and other government assistance that the state of Arkansas allows most of the deadbeat population in our state sign up for and then don't even investigate those people. The ex-wife gets money from SSI because her son takes ADHD medicine or should I say she gets refills so the checks keep coming, he doesn't even take the medication! She works the system and has for years. I received child support for my daughter but I also worked a full time job. I also allowed my ex husband to claim her on taxes every other year which I think my husband should have that right because he works she doesn't!! Stop the DEADBEAT MOMS who have nice vehicles, dine out all the time and cheat our state and the taxpayers out of their money!!!!REPORT COMMENTS
