My Ex-Girlfriend has been on Welfare for 15 YEARS! She refuses to work. She calls her Welfare her paycheck. I have 50 50 custody and going by the guideline calculator for CA I have to pay 600 a month for my 2 kids. If her Welfare is put in as actual income into the calculator my child support is reduced by HALF! How is this fair?! -

I believe there are very few actual dead beat dads. Its more like " Beat Dead Dads ". Child support laws and calculations are way out of fairness. How is a father/mother going to be able to take care of their children if they are broken financially by the system. Child support in Virginia is designed to criminalize the non custodial parent. Plus child support is a tool that is used by the custodial parent to take revenge or to manipulate the non custodial parent ...which no matter how you spin it ..the children suffer the most and the non custodial parent life is ruined.REPORT COMMENTS

If you have 50/50 custody, neither party should pay support.. They are equally responsibile and it should be equal. When one party has to pay support in a 50/50 custody agreement, it still isn't equal.. The one paying support does more!REPORT COMMENTS

I just want to say that men aren't the only ones that have it like this. My mother is going through the same thing! They take 60% of every paycheck from each job, & she still doesn't get to see her son! she is about to go to jail for a year over this.REPORT COMMENTS

My sons mom is going to start receiving child support and she works maybe 15 hours a week lives at home with her mom. I just disagree in general with child support. First, why do they factor in money I don't even get? Second only dead beat fathers should be on child support, I work two jobs and i got a second job to support my son and his mom and she still put me on child support. There should be an investigator to see if spite is involved because us not working out has nothing to do with our son at all.REPORT COMMENTS

My daughter's mother does not work, is married, and supported by my child support and her husband's income(which has no affect on how much I pay). I make $5Ok a year, after taxes is roughly $35, and $8k to child support, plus insurance and medical bills. I'm barely getting by, and my daughter's mother drives a brand new car. Something is wrong with this, and I am the one who took her to court to have rights to see my daughter. The constant threats are another subject about getting more money, etc etc.REPORT COMMENTS

In most cases of child support the mother is receiving government assistance that is greater than what the young man can afford to pay and he is left with the balance wich is unfair if he is paying what the court said he can afford to pay basically his court order then she should be left with any balance that she is getting the kind of laws would help young lady's be better decision makers sense they are the ones who ultimately make the decision to have aND keep a child that they might not be able to afford just imagine how devastating it is to a young person to start off in the hole if a young lady knew she had to pay for half of what she got in assistance she would be very careful about having babiesREPORT COMMENTS

I am a transgender woman who is experiencing an incredible amount of difficulty finding employment. My ex wife decided that she was not coming after me for child support because she knew that I would face some very steep challenges surviving as a transgender woman. We filled the papers the best way we could. I could not afford legal aid and standing in court was incredibly intimidating. The state of Colorado has taken upon itself to come after for child support and back child support. I live with a girlfriend rent free while I try and get on my feet. I have only had two interviews after a year of putting in applications and submitting resume's. I really try to avoid applying for jobs that put me in view of customers or have me interact with the public to keep from having to deal with public ridicule or humiliation on the job. I will be loosing my license shortly even after calling my case manager telling her my situation. Now I will have to struggle even harder to try to find work without transportation. I would rather take my own life then go to jail for this because I may wind up being held with males. I have been transitioning for 3 years and look and act effeminate enough that i could possibly be raped or assaulted. I am at my wits end...REPORT COMMENTS

How about the fact women have so many choices now a days on what they can do with a child if even having it at all that they should be held accountable for half of any support I'm a man who have served my country and have been working my whole life and still pay for kids that are grown because there mother decided to do nothing with there life it's almost like taking a loan out in my name . Women have so many choices like birth control in many otheforms abortion adoption and a few others but the man only have 2 the laws need to change to reflect that woman shall be held accountable for half of any support or assistance received this would force women and young girls to make better decisions on having baby's this is only right and the only way to changeREPORT COMMENTS

My son's father is on temporary disability, so he is at home 24/7. He is capable of working, but chooses not to. I feel for this, he could either work or my child support payment go down. We both have equal time with my son. Why should I pay for him to sit on his butt for half the time he has our son. ((Hell, I shouldn't have to pay when we have 50/50 custody. If he can't afford our son in the first place he shouldn't have custody)) just my opinion of course.REPORT COMMENTS

My boyfriend signed over his parental rights to an 11 year old child in California that is not his and the grandmother who has guardianship promised to not come after him for support if he agreed. This woman quit her job and is getting benefits from the state so they've ordered him to pay support and started collecting months before they even had a court order. This has now put him behind in support which in turn has interest applied to the back support. He also pays for his biological kids, his rent and now this child and is left with 123.00 a month to survive on since he now pays almost 1000.00 in support and interest that keeps accruing every month. He owes more interest then back support. He fell behind in support with the agency in Nevada for his biological kids because of the loss of his 18 month old child but after changing his life for the better he has been paying for years now. He just found out that he currently owes 52,000.00 most of which is interest and they continue to add on each month. They say "it's an incentive to pay his support" it doesn't make sense because he has been paying. This is madness and unfair to fathers. Neither one of these people will even let him see the kids he's paying for. With all the money coming out he can't afford to get help to fight to see them. All child support and judges say are "go to court". How can he with 123.00 a month to live off of?REPORT COMMENTS

These child support laws are unfair to say the least, they treat Fathers who actually take care of their children like cash cows and in some jurisdictions they take a portion of the monies collected to cover "administrative costs" now correct me if I'm wrong but aren't child support enforcement agencies tax payer funded? These laws must be revamped or repealed and the support enforcement agencies disbanded altogether. Enough is enough.REPORT COMMENTS

As this is to help with raising a child, these laws are found to be highly illegal. In states such as mine, it has been found that the agency and court in connection with child support have been found of criminal activities. Blackmail, extortion, racketeering, embezzlement, grand theft, money laundering, and coercion. Just to name a few crimes D.R.S. has committed. The licence suspension law, is in itself criminal, as bribery, blackmail, and extortion. Pay us or lose it. This also goes against the constitutional rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Taking away ones license, can, as in my case, prevent one from working to pay ones support payment. The amount the payor must pay, 60% of their income also prevents the payor from a life. Prevents bills being paid, doing activities with the child or children. This punishment is also illegal. And is punishable under the law in which all law makers have taken oath to prevent.REPORT COMMENTS

Child support in Illinois sucks. Serious reform needs to happen. Nobody should pay 20% or more of there wages. I live within my means and she doesn't but I still pay alot because of the lifestyle she created for my daughter. And we were never married.REPORT COMMENTS

I've had 5 beautiful, smart, caring children. Unfortunately, one of my daughters passed last year at 2 months. The 4 remaining I love more than my own life. I have a wonderful relationship with my fiance (mother of my last 4). Yet my son , my oldest and only boy has never had the opportunity to live with his dad long term. We discuss his goals and what he wants to do in his life and he has it pretty well arranged if he sticks to it. Sadly our relationship is determined by money or Child Support. Because of the amount of Child Support I pay the majority of any 'family money' is all sent to him. Now of course he doesnt understand this and I would never want to place a thought as such on his head. But when I see the money being spent vicariously as it almost always is THERES A PROBLEM. No I dont believe child support goes towards "the home" my son lives in because it would be stupid for me to think as an adult that his mother would live in the dark, would not feed herself or much less not buy clothing to wear or make sure she has a roof over her own head.....thats called being an Adult. I had a roof over my head, a car to drive, insurance to pay, food in my kitchen, clothes (new) on my back when I moved out of my mothers home the same as she taught me to have it when I was there. I didnt take my mom to court because I was moving out at 17 and needed 'support'. In addition to this, I have offered to take care of my son WITHOUT her assistance or evenmoreso that of the state. Check my SSN...I have never applied for public assistance. I have nothing against those who have. But if the issue is these mothers or fathers who refuse to work because they can rely on 'the system', you limit the system not the ability of the working parent to provide for the family, his family. From age 5 til present day the child support order has been set at $598 for one child (I am told now) when previously one of my employers informed me that I was paying benefits for 2 including the child she was impregnated with during our marriage. (The reason for our divorce) I will continue to love my children and see them grow up and hopefully not be scared to have families of their own. But this situation in this country is old. It is tired. And it is OLD.REPORT COMMENTS

Child support in California is very unfair! My wife and I share joint custody but she has our two daughters about 75% of the time due to the distance involved (she moved 6 hours away from me during separation and lives with her parents) I pay $1,900 per month! She drives around in a brand new $45K Mercedes! She had an $80K job prior to our 3 year marriage and took a $30K job after separation. (I make $118K) She's been living with parents for the past 10 years with the same salary job! Claims to pay rent to her parents and daycare to her sister who also lives at home. I am all for paying my fair share of child support but how does this system encourage someone to go out there and earn a living? My ex is underemployed and there is no way to make her go back to her former employment as the family court system is content to just plug paystub numbers into the child support calculator! Why not reduce my ex's support by 50% to "encourage" her to find higher paying work? Why is the child support calculator presumed to be correct? This is inane!REPORT COMMENTS

Child support payments do not constitute imprisonment, it is unlawful to incarcerate a person who has not violated or trespassed against another, hence common law = common sense. The circuit courts are a corporation and operate for profit; therefore, they should not be in charge of making decisions in regards to children support. This is clear why so many children are prevented from being with one parent who pays money to the other, resulting in the child becoming a pawn and a cash flow while a minor,& losing much needed guidance, direction, & love from the non custodial parent. Most all custodial & nocostodial parent suffer hardship while their children are young, yet, the noncustodial parent is further burdened and unable to access resources to lower payments, which causes more hardship and inability to participate in the children s life. The courts most always rule with the state and child support enforcement to get monies to the custodial parent, and most children are half orphaned due to this and many grow up and have no inheritance cause the non custodial parent spent it. It takes 2 to make then 2 need to provide the care and support, not take awsy money from one and give to another. Both need to make an allotment account if agreement not reached.REPORT COMMENTS
