These people are honest, honorable and deserving. They have struggled to maintain their identity in the face of severe financial restrictions, and are constantly working to maintain their culture. Because of a lack of funds, they had to close the food bank they operate in the town of Chinook (WA), a facility that was open to ALL, regardless of ethnicity. Asking Chinook to prove it exists is like asking someone to prove the sky is blue. It is self evident to all of us, but if someone is unwilling to see it, how do you actually convince them? I am Chinook. I was born in our traditional territory and live here today. My wife and 5 kids are Chinook. No one here would deny we exist. This task of ours, proving the self evident, is indescribably difficult and frustrating. kHanawi-Laksta (everyone): the sky is blue and the Chinook Nation exists.REPORT COMMENTS

A few years ago, members of the Chinook Tribal Council were invited to the White House to help celebrate and recognize the historical Lewis & Clark Expedition, as the main reason that expedition survived its journey; yet, officially the Tribe still is not recognized. There needs to be an official recognition and restoration of the Chinook Tribe as an important indigenous nation to the USA. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS
