I support resoration of the Chinook Indian Nation and recognition of the Treaties signed by the tribes in 1851 and 1855 but never ratified by the US Congress.

I'm an honorary member of the Chinook tribe, and I can't believe that they are not acknowledged. Their legacy and achievements are great, and much of the West Coast would not be explored without them.

Each year we think we're close to achieving recognition. I hope we have the stamina to see it through.

The Chinook have been and continue to be an important Nation, and deserve formal restoration.

I think that it is completely inappropriate that the Chinook people are not "federally recognized". We learn in our public schools about the Chinook tribe and how they helped the white man, yet even as one of the most well known tribes, especially in the north west, they are not given the same rites as other Natives. I feel this to be very wrong!

All native people's deserve recognition. It is the least we can do after a history of cultural genocide.

I moved to Norway back in 1951 as a little girl of 9 years old. I felt different than the Norwegians. They were all white over there, looking at me this dark little girl always asking me if I was an Indian. Even people from a foreign country could see I was Indian. Yes, I'm Chinook Indian and a proud one too. I'm not Quinault or any other tribe.
