I think that it is completely inappropriate that the Chinook people are not "federally recognized". We learn in our public schools about the Chinook tribe and how they helped the white man, yet even as one of the most well known tribes, especially in the north west, they are not given the same rites as other Natives. I moved to Norway back in 1951 as a little girl of 9 years old. I felt different than the Norwegians. They were all white over there, looking at me this dark little girl always asking me if I was an Indian. Even people from a foreign country could see I was Indian. Yes, I'm Chinook Indian and a proud one too. I'm not Quinault or any other tribe.REPORT COMMENTS
