I filed for divorce in 2012. My now ex filed a protective oreder in Florida and registered it in my home state of Indiana where I have lived all my life. My ex later salledged I violated the protective order by writing two threatening emails in January 2013. Indiana set the civil matter aside and my ex went to Florida and alleged to the prosecutors I wrote 11 emails in January 2013. Florida threatened me with 15 years in the Florida state penitentiary if I went to trial. They offered me 3 years probation withholding adjudication...I ran with that. How can a woman file two separate charges and add offenses that never truly occurred by me?REPORT COMMENTS

I had no idea that this was even a thing until it happened to me at the end of January, 2015. I was ejected from my home barely able to get together my belongings so I could continue to go to work. The claims were atrocious, out of context, and unjustified. The hearing from the temporary order was supposed to be today but our lawyers have been working on dismissing it and coming to some other arrangement. I've been forced to seek my own shelter, prevented from even speaking with my kids, and just having the temporary protection order out against me vilifies me. We chose to try to dismiss this outside of court because of the off-change the judge was having a particularly disgruntled day or my (soon to be ex) spouse had conjured up some other non-reality based argument. I've never been physically violent or abusive. I hardly ever yell or display acts of aggression. I'm a loving father and take great care of our children. This order was a revenge tactic because I told her that she needed to get a job.REPORT COMMENTS

Although I have not been accused of domestic violence, my ex-wife left me for a methamphetamine dealer with two convictions for physically assaulting children under his care. This violent psychopath has also assaulted my daughter and continues to violently attack his own children whenever there are no witnesses who can testify again him. I am a retired detective with extensive education, training and experience investigating crimes against children. Being alienated from my children based on methamphetamine induced behavior by their mother is and was the worst thing I have ever had to live with. Originally, I refused to believe that ANYONE would lie about domestic violence, then I became the victim of a false accusation when my ex-wife, with the coaching of a police officer, filed a TRO against me because that was easier than divorcing me. I think that there are many many more cases of this than people are willing to admit. This action against me pretty much ruined my life, as now I can't legally purchase a firearm and finding work is exceedingly difficult because as soon as the accusation turns up on a background check I'm out of consideration. It is insane to me how these women are getting away with flat out lying. Especially in cases where divorce & custody is involved! I feel more information needs to be taken into consideration when these type of cases are before a judge. & I believe the perjurer should be punished..along with their attorneys that give them the idea! Then maybe it won't be the first card pulled when trying to gain full custody! In my opinion..the person who would take advantage of this situation is not doing what's in the best interest of the child..(apart from being a decent human being)..& the last person id see fit or deserving of full custody. This is happening to my son. He wanted to move out of the apt he was sharing with his gf when he found her cheating. He was at the end of his probation and doing well...school & work..with plans for more school. He was arrested due to her accusation which she now regrets. my son went to prison cause of this very same reason ,we couldnt afford to hire an attorney he just got out ,and what he went threw he is only now 23 ,and served a 3 year senteced now on porole ,women are no victims they start a fight ,provoke anger ,then want to take ur freedom ,and the law allows it so i say she should be punished right along with him for allowing it ,unless if she is a hostage ,and tied up and no way to getaway ,which usually aint the case, women stay cause they like the drama ,and men are just as much as a victim as she isREPORT COMMENTS

I was accused of a domestic battery by strangulation by an ex girlfriend. She told police that i choked her until she blacked out. At the time i was in a house with 2 women and 3 children as witnesses to the whole event. I didn't want to be with her anymore and told her that and i wanted her to leave. She started hitting me and i grabbed her and threw her to the ground. It was then that the owner of the house told her to get out. The kids then said she took her chain and started rubbing her neck and making marks. The police later came and arrested me and the prosecuter would not accept the children's or anyone's statement. I had a public defender who didn't even talk to me about the case until a day before trial and i was left to take probation or be sent to jail. It was a huge mess and my life has since been ruined because of this charge on my record. 9 years later and I'm still paying for this. Its sick what an angry woman can do to a man and this needs to stop.REPORT COMMENTS

My soon to be ex put a restraining order on me after I found out the truth that she was having multiple affairs. Nothing but pure spite. I even have the final text message she ever sent me 36 hours prior to her getting the HRO, in it she states that, "I can forget about ever seeing our sons again because she was going to get a restraining order". Of course she also cleaned out every penny in the bank over 20K, stole the vehicle I paid for that she now lets the 64 yo drunk she destroyed our family for drive while smoking with our boys in the vehicle. I was thrown in jail right before christmas because I found out she uses the same old drunk as daycare for our 5 yo son, and I said I didn't approve of it. Now I'm facing up to 6 months in jail for doing nothing wrong. I have never abused her or our sons, but had to endure 2-months of not seeing or even knowing where my sons were at. The woman judge who granted the order even refused me a hearing to defend myself. I raised my sons to believe that the truth matters in all of life. Guess I was wrong. This is justice? This is America? I believe it was Ben Franklin who stated that, "those who will sacrifice ones liberty for another's security deserve neither...REPORT COMMENTS

We need to change the legal system to ask more questions before even taking someone to jail due to domestic violence allegations. The system currently set in place is emotionally, psychologically, and financially debilitating towards the wrongfully accused.
