My boyfriend had 1st degree armed robbery in 1997 and has spent time in prison since then. Which is 20 years. I think this is too long especially if the person has had that long to change. It is harder on the prison system for some of these inmates for these types of crimes to be in there. Dont you think that they should be given another chance after being in there for so long? Prisons are getting fuller and fuller. There are rapist, child molesters, coming in to prison and spending half that time and then getting to walk away. I dont think this is fair in any way. It has been 20 years for him! This needs to change, people change and deserve to have a second chance. The longer they are in there it makes it harder for them out here. People change! Give these people a second chance!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

My son got a 20 year sentence at age 47. When he is released assuming he is still alive he will be over 60, penniless, unable to work and a family broken up and moved away. His crimes were for fraud. In every othe civilised country his sentence would have been a maximum of 3 to 5 years. He has servez more than enough time for his crimes and should be set free now.REPORT COMMENTS

I feel that there are to many people in prison who made ONE mistake and deserve a second chance on life its sad kids grow up without a parent or parents when that ONE mistake cost those kids a mom and dad!!!and the system gets to foot the bill to keep the kids up and person thats in jail all over ONE mistake!!I hope this changesREPORT COMMENTS

It seems to me that the frustrations of the federal employees who historically have had to catch and release early violent offenders, has been transferred to non-violent offenders. In my sons' case - there appears to be deliberate withholding of important information - interrogation without legal representation - constant delays in court hearings and sentencing - and movement between federal holding facilities without reason. While it is important that justice must be met - an alignment of time served for level of crime needs to be addressed. Most of the inmates my son has had contact with are back in for violation of their probation. Quality inmate/prison rehab and counseling while in holding for hearings or sentencing could positively impact inmate returns and overcrowding of our detention centers. My son has been in since the end of August 2016 - not once has he been offered a spiritual, mental or physical rehab assistance program; and he has not even had a hearing yet - nor sentencing. It is a shame - someone so young in a box - with no guidance. He will get out and live a productive life because he has a loving and supportive family. But how many others do not that will be negatively impacted by lack of guidance while in " holding" ? Lets limit the time so that the holding centers do not continue to make money off of family phone time and commissary gifts to our loved ones. Limit the time and make their time worthwhile while "in".REPORT COMMENTS

I totally agree . I believe people who commit crime when young should not be punished the rest of their life . Especially that was there first offense . Just like God forgives us . Our country should too. After they serve 15 or more years in prision is a punishment . Like was said before in court ,sometimes people plead to something they are not guilty of because scared of consequence. If they have good behavior and they seeem to be an asset to our country let them free. Please give them a second chance of life .They are punished but so is their family.REPORT COMMENTS

This law needs to be changed. Especially for inmates who have never served time before. I also believe that the indivuals behavior during their time being served should be reviewed. I know someone who was there at the time of the offense who was not an active participant in the crime who was charged with complicity and was given an 85% sentence who had never even had a felony. He pled to those charges because he was afraid to go to trial with the other persons who committed the crime for fear of receiving a bigger sentence. He now has two children growing up without their father. No matter what his behavior and any other programs he's completed he is not allowed to get an early release. This law has got to be changedREPORT COMMENTS

The law needs to be changed that non-violent offenders serve 65% of their time instead of the 85%. Yes this needs to be done. Their getting so much timed served that is not needed at all. People are getting more time served for stealing, grand larceny, and drugs than people who are killing people are. I will not stand for this and something needs to be done. People make mistakes don't get me wrong but they should not half to sit in jail and serve 85% of their jail sentence, when they are murderers getting away with murder or getting less time than people that are nonviolent. People have families and things and life should not be taken for granted and I fee like people that should be given another chance or sent to a rehab instead of sitting in jail and serving the whole 85% of their time. Its ridiculous and should not be tolerated. I will go above and beyond to get this law passed. I don't care what I half to go through to get this done but its sad when murders are getting less time then someone on drugs, or, car wrecks, running capias. Please let this law pass,REPORT COMMENTS

I support this motion. Too much time is given to people who are not violent. They made a mistake trying to make an easy living. They should be able to enter a program and be reintroduced to society.. more time should be given to rapidt who do it over and over again and to murderers.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with the 65%, in fact I think it would be a true benefit for everyone if 1st non-violent offenses were dealt with by community service that should be increased to 110% of what it is now. Also I would like to see a level of DUI be considered a violent offense: if you killed someone or if it's your 3rd with injuries.REPORT COMMENTS

you want fair in a legal system that allows Officers to plant evidence, Lie in their reports, and break just as many laws if not more than the criminals do? Really? Wow reality check there is no more judicial/justice system it is a legal system designed to get revenue for the state and counties. Until people stand up and take control of the system and put it back to the way it was meant to be you/we will continue to have drones that invade our privacy, "evidence" taken that was never evidence in the first place and every excuse as to why they need to keep something in their posession for years and years and you never get your personal belongings back. Now There is some reality from Gila County which is only one of the most crooked counties in the state of Arizona. Something to think about thats all. They receive money everytime they move an inmate and for every year that they are incarcerated even if their release date is January 1st or 2nd. Don't Believe me go to the doc website and look it up unless they are no longer posting itREPORT COMMENTS
