I worked 17 years teaching privately before entering a public school job - now that I retired, it's not fair that I can only get a small portion of what I put into SS. Also, if my husband dies before me, his entire SS will be lost to me. Both of these laws are unfair.Feb 28th, 2013Someone from Arlington, MA signed.

Anyone that works more than one job and contributes to a retirement program should receive the full benefits of the programs.REPORT COMMENTS

It is absolutely nor right that someone like me who has never made a lot of money and has worked at one time under Social Security and now under Maine State Retirement (and not by choice) is penalized during retirement. I should be able to get my full Social Security benefit when I retire because I EARNED it. That is the agreement that I entered into. This is especially true when it only affects some people. I need those extra dollars to pay for food and health insurance. Please make this right! Thank you. Ann JohnsonREPORT COMMENTS

How about doing something for the middle class for once, people who work two jobs should not be penalized.REPORT COMMENTS

Teachers/educators are one-of-a-kind and shouldn't be penalized because they chose this very important career field. Perhaps they should be paid a salary in line with those students who went on to become wealthy; they were all taught by a teacher!REPORT COMMENTS

I've never understood why people who paid into social security are denied part or what they paid for. The campaign that encouraged this law was dishonest in that it used extreme examples of "double dipping" that simply didn't represent the majority of people paying into social security.REPORT COMMENTS

This is Dr. Paul R, retired Associate Professor & Public School Teacher who has worked to teach students for over 35 years. During that time there were some difficult years where I had to work additional jobs outside the public sector. I had easily earned all the Social Security quarters necessary for a full Social Security retirement benefit. During the retirement process, I was appalled when the WEP / GPO had an impact on what I should be receiving and what little I now receive. It seems so unfair to see other retirees in other states receiving full Social Security benefits, while retired teachers from Maine, Mass., and 11 more states have their full benefits drastically cut. How can we live with dignity on such a small Social Security benefit? Repeal the WEP/GPO. I truly hope that you will sign on to HR1332 and work diligently and consciously to repair the damage done by the effects of the WEP / GPO. Now is the time to stand up and MAKE IT RIGHT for all retired teachers. Sincerely, Dr. PaulREPORT COMMENTS
