This also applies to several other states, including Massachusetts. I have worked beyond teaching and put money into SS system that I can't use.REPORT COMMENTS

I worked since the age of 16 paying into SS and continued to work summers while teaching so I could pay for grad. school, etc. I, along with others, should not be prevented from receiving funds that were earned.REPORT COMMENTS

I have worked in the public sector long enough to be entitled to social security benefits. Many employees who have stayed in the private sector earned substantial pension benefits yet those of us who are teachers are penalized and not able to gain the benefits we have earned. Please let's stop this discrimination.REPORT COMMENTS

Like many others who have signed, I started my state career later in life. Although I will be eligible for a full pension from the state system, I have also completed the required quarters to be qualified for SS benefits. I think it is tremendously unfair to be penalized for working in the public sector. Many private companies provide better retirement benefits than the state and people who retire from these private companies are not penalized as us public employees are.REPORT COMMENTS

Most people today don't work in one setting over their lifetimes. If they have paid in to social security but have also worked for a municipality, theu should not be punsihed. They earned their SS benefit and should be able to keep it. They are no "double-dipping" if the benefits they reap are those they've earned!REPORT COMMENTS
