Fair is fair. If someone PAYS INTO more than one system, one should be able to COLLECT from those systems. That's not "double-dipping"!Feb 27th, 2013Someone from South Weymouth, MA signed.

I started working part-time in 1961 while in high school and paid the mandatory social security contributions. In 1970 I started a full time career in education and continued additional part-time jobs that required paying into social security, pleased that I worked so hard and would collect social security as well as my teacher's pension when I retired. However, upon my retirement from the field of education I learned that all those years of extra work were in vain and now that I am retired I still need a part-time job to augment my income, but if social security paid what I was anticipating and what I am due, I would not have to be working long hours at age 67. What is the matter with our system? I was required to pay SS all those years and now receive a very small amount every month instead of what I am rightly due.REPORT COMMENTS

I lost all of my husband's social security benefits when he passed on just moths before I retired. This was the only "pension" he had after 40+ years of working for various start up tech companies. So i am living on my teacher's pension which was much reduced because I stayed home for 12 years raising our children.REPORT COMMENTS

Because of this unfair law, I will not be able to retire until I become to ill to work or I die, whichever comes first. I will be 66 next year and should be moving over to make a spot for newer, younger teachers....REPORT COMMENTS

I worked 22 years paying into Social Security before entering the teaching profession. Why should I have to give up those benefits? My teacher's pension is not much considering I only taught children for half of my working life.REPORT COMMENTS
