This is an outdated system. By eliminating the electoral college, not only will our voices be heard, but campaign funds will be brought under control. Further, the myth that the electoral college ensures that all states are equal in the election process does not hold true. Smaller states have less delegates anyway. Popular majority vote is the way to go.Feb 13th, 2016Someone from Council Bluffs, IA writes:
Not only should we do away with electorates but we should also get rid of delegates, especially super delegates on the Democratic side. It should always be one citizen, one vote. Anything other than that is not a true democracy.REPORT COMMENTS

Technology is here to count each individual vote, why do we still have this antiquated system. It has hurt people on both sides of the political spectrum, let's get rid of it and let everyone's vote count. So many people do not even vote because they feel theirs doesn't matter.REPORT COMMENTS

The reason why the electoral college was created was because the Founding Fathers didn't trust the common people to vote for the right person. Which is ridiculous.REPORT COMMENTS

As a 14 year old I am able to figure out that the electoral college makes the people almost powerless when it comes to voting for president. In 2000, Al Gore won the popular vote, but since George Bush won the electoral college, he won. The people obviously wanted Al Gore but it didn't matter.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe that a majority vote would be the best way to make all votes matter for all Americans. Democrats/Republican/independent does not always cover a person's worth for the job. Its time to allow people a real 'say so' in who has the right to speak for them.REPORT COMMENTS

Throwing out the electoral college is a big first step to true democracy where other voices participate. a minority party forming a coalition with a major party to form a government or to pass a bill for which in return the minority party has some of its agenda represented and that is proportional representationREPORT COMMENTS

The electoral college was originally put in place because it was hard for people in remote areas to get information about candidates, and even in cities and towns media coverage could be few and far between, and inaccurate, so the electoral college would vote for the people they thought the uninformed would want. The electoral college was important in the past but is now totally outdated.REPORT COMMENTS
