With the advent of the internet this is no longer needed, and promotes favoritism to places. Not to mention the fact that our votes don't mean anything.Jul 11th, 2016Someone from Austin, TX signed.

Yes it's time to grow, hanging on to outdated thoughts and behaviors will be our downfall as a species. So we either grow or we are destroyed. Make a choice.REPORT COMMENTS

An antiquated system rigged by years of gerrymandering and political manipulations. The laws were created at a time where we didn't have the technology we have today. Time for electronic online voting and abolishing the EC!!! Give the vote back to the people.REPORT COMMENTS

Get rid of the electoral college for the sake of the American people. It came about in the constitution as a poorly-implemented compromise (similar to how the Founding Fathers dealt with slavery). It was a system used in the early days of the nation because the founding fathers did not trust the colonist's ability to effectively elect a president. The electoral college which, at the time, consisted manly of the founding fathers themselves was merely a thinly veiled oligarchy. A feeble attempt was made to reform it in the 12th amendment following the Louisiana purchase, but it did not do away with the system which would remain inherently flawed and un-American even to this day. As the sheer size of the nation continued to expand, the electoral college only got exponentially more complex with the rules binding the delegates responsible for choosing a candidate changing not only from state to state, but also between congressional districts. Whenever a candidate is chosen (and elected), their respective electoral colleges and rules for delegates are adjusted to stack the outcome in their party's favor. To see the true corruption this system instills - look no further than the Democratic primary. After 1984, feeling the "grassroots" movements of the previous decades had become too powerful, the electoral college was rearranged to be comprised of roughly 25% super delegates. This is to say that one in four people responsible for choosing the president could vote entirely independently of what the American people actually wanted. Remember this was to prevent grassroots movements - a widespread ideological shift in the majority. Overturning this system will be difficult as it has been the basis of the past 240 years of American politics, but it must be done. It will take all of us to do it, but it will benefit generations to come and ultimately protect our liberty and prolong the lifespan of our nation. Make this the America the one you want to live in.REPORT COMMENTS
