I am a senior in collage, studding to be a social studies teacher, meaning this school year I am student teaching. A while back my and my mentor teacher's government class asked us why the electoral collage exists. There was a brief moment of silence and then my mentor explained to this high school sophomore that she found in a text book once a chart that listed pros and cons of the electoral collage. There were many, many cons. And on the pro side was listed, "Its Traditional." It is important to all ways judge things in accordance with the time in which they took place. For example it would be unfair to judge movies of the early 60's with those of today. They are products of their times and should be judged accordingly. And as a product of its time the Electoral collage makes sense. It can be difficult to count so many votes reliably, and send those results in, in a time before mass communication on the scale we have today. So as a product of its time, the electoral collage system makes sense. But today, I carry with me at all times a commuter more advanced than what helped people walk on the surface of the moon. Today, we can easily count everyone's vote thanks to the advancements we have in communications and computing technology. It is obvious that this is an outdated system, it has served its purpose and just like an Apple I, or a muzzle loading rifle, or a Greek Trireme, it is time for it to be placed in a museum as a testament to our past and a marker of how far we have come. And as I stood there that day the student asked why the electoral collage exits I could feel the class coming to the same conclusion.REPORT COMMENTS

Dude, this Electoral******is bull, let's just make it votes, or are we not a technologically advanced nation that can handle the votes coming into the system? You can reach into your pocket and pull out a device that can access a server on the opposite side of the planet with only a few seconds of delay and talk with someone in Japan or Russia. That's on the OTHER SIDE of the planet! But we still use the Electoral College to count votes? Why? Because it's tradition? It was tradition to pay taxes on tea and marry your little girls off at 12 to 40 year old men who already had other wives, where did that go? It fell away because it was not good!REPORT COMMENTS

This is why every election year so many people say "my vote doesn't matter" or "I'm voting in protest." Y'all have the technology to start listening to the people, to REALLY start listening. So do it. The people have spoken, we're just waiting to be heard.REPORT COMMENTS

If the electoral college really votes the people's opinion, then what is the point of it even existing in the first place? With the techknowlegy we have there is no reason that we have to put our votes into a simplistic formula. If we really are "one nation under God", then how can some states be allowed special privileges when it comes to the election?REPORT COMMENTS

There is no benefit or need for the electoral college. It's establishment was for those who could not be here to vote during war times etc. With technology advances, soldiers should be able to vote electronically from anywhere in the world. All the electoral college does is purport the illusion of democracy in the Republic States of America.REPORT COMMENTS

The electoral college is a form of voter oppression and a crime against our people's right to vote and elect a president freely! It is an outrage that only select states with high populations have impact on the presidency than all the states together! No more! How is it fair if Florida has 29 electoral college votes and VA has 18, but our gov't overlooks VA. I dont think so. How is it fair that if Hillary wins in CA by 1 measly vote, then she automatically gets all 55 electoral votes! No! I refuse to be oppressed! Our population is large enough on its own now to get rid of the electoral college voting processes. America's president should solely be based on the majority vote! Who ever gets the most votes nation-wide should be the winner!REPORT COMMENTS
