Having tattoos, without any type of criminal record should be allowed. We should be able to put our lives on the line for our country just the same as anyone else.

The current tattoo policy is ruining the Corps in my opinion. What happened to the days when Marines were the most tattooed guys you knew? The Higher Ups are more worried about making us more professional. The Marine Corps was born in a tavern. Of course we're going to get tattoos and drink, it's what we were born to do. With the inability to get the tattoos I want, within reason of course. I can completely understand not being able to get tattoos above the shoulders, and beyond your wrists, but beyond that I don't get. Some of the most heavily tattooed people I know are also the greatest leaders. Why should a quarter sleeve, or a half sleeve make the determination of someone's career?

I'm 22, going in with a college degree. Been working many months with a great Marine recruiter down in Missouri (SSG Valentino). Like many others, I am trying to get a waiver for a tattoo that goes down to my elbow that commemorates my love for hunting. Almost no one receives such a waiver for a tattoo in the Marines, however, as a fellow poolee in my squad was denied several times after he paid several thousand dollars in removal treatments for a smal tattoo that barely come up to his collarbone. In spite of my recruiter's diligent work and effort, I may have to seek service in another branch. I'd give anything to be a Marine, but this may be my only option.
