The tattoo policy is messing with a lot of peoples careers because they went out and got a tattoo that might be to big but when did they get it? When they was a PVT-LCpl at that stage of your career you don't know to pull up the Tattoo policy let alone know what you're reading you go off of what your leadership says and when they tell you not to get a sleeve and that's it that's what you are going to do. Tattoos are apart of everyday life now anywhere you go you will see someone with tattoos it has no effect on how someone does there job. When Marines try to express there thoughts on the subject to higher-ups they say they are listening but they don't care or at least they don't see it but nothing changes and things just get more strict. That is wrong. I say make the right changes.Apr 30th, 2016Someone from West Covina, CA signed.

It has always been a dream of mine to join the USMC, The day they declined me because of a tattoo whose name I won't put for the simply reason that they are deceased and no longer in my life is not right they told me it wasn't "Professional" and that I couldn't get waivered into the USMC I don't think that this is fair to a lot of dedicated people!REPORT COMMENTS

I am a 19 years old first thing I did was got a tattoo at 18 now I have to get wavier to join because I have a half sleeve and a rose tattoo. So I can die for my country but can't have a tattoo. And if I do I can't join the marines normally that sucks. Thank you creators of that policyREPORT COMMENTS

I got a band tattoo on my ring finger last year in July for my marriage. The next week, I got NJP'd for it and I knew the risk I was taking, but it was for my wife. Now, I would understand if the tattoo was exotic and/or absurd, but it is barely noticeable and no one can see it because it kind of blends in with my skin complexion. Only reason they found out is because one of my Higher brought it up to the Company office. Anyways, what I'm trying to get at is how in anyway getting a tattoo representing my marriage unprofessional and disqualify me to reenlist? I don't wear miscellaneous things like rings and etc.. Neither does my wife and This isn't a random tattoo that I blatantly wanted to get. I believe this should be an exception to the Marine Corps.REPORT COMMENTS

The Marine Corps Tattoo Policy is at its core a discriminatory policy meant to exclude those from service who do not strictly adhere to a conservative culture from the American 1950s. During my time in the Marine Corps, I saw many great Staff NCOs and officers with full sleeve tattoos. Now, after this policy has been enacted, I have seen Marines who would make phenomenal officers get turned down for Commissioning due to tattoos. Only tattoos. The Marine Corps is supposed to be one of the best fighting organizations to ever be created. And in this time, post-war, they are choosing to not admit those who have combat experience and are great leaders over nothing larger than a sleeve tattoo. This is ridiculous, and counter to the real culture of the Marine Corps. War fighters don't belong on recruiting posters, but they do have a place in the Marine Corps, leading people into war. This policy is absurd and ridiculous.REPORT COMMENTS

I've been out since 06/1/15 and have tried so hard to get in the reserve component and I've been denied a dozen times for a tattoo on my chest that shows in my Charlie's without a white t shirt I always wear a white t and it cannot be seen. This policy ruins careers for future leaders when it should be shaping careersREPORT COMMENTS

The times have changed tattoos a socially acceptable there is no reason to kick good marines out or close any opportunities to tattooed marines or marines that want to get tattoos.REPORT COMMENTS
