I was a former federal agent and now work, in my retirement, as a Marine Corps Civilian Police Officer. We have been told that we are not covered by the LEOSA and cannot carry off duty, even for our own safety. Isn't this in direct conflict with the law.

As a DOD Civilian Police Officer, I have seen so many good men leave us, due to the restrictions we face. We get guys hired in with great law enforcement experience, but we cannot retain them. No self respecting Officer wants be called a guard, or treated as such. Furthermore, it is a slap in the face to a guy who has worked at various agencies to include Secret Service, DEA, ATF, and multiple local departments, to be told to hand his weapon over at the end of the work day, and his authority ends at the gate. We get guys like this because their spouse is military. They bring a wealth of knowledge, and they end of leaving to work in the city for less pay and more respect. Not to mention the fact the the base commander has the final say. Nothing takes the wind out of your sales like letting a wife beater go, because of his rank. Everyone who works with me, has been to law enforcement academy. They have an accepted academy before they start, or they are sent to Little Rock after hire. We have great men and women who are, more than adequately trained, and do not deserve to treated like they are not. We do not have any 0085 Guards and I don't know what training requirements they have, but as far as the 0083 Police Officers, Congress really does need to pass this bill.

The state of Colorrado has just passed a bill giving DA Police full statutory authority. The only caveat being that you most be Colorado Post certified.

Times have changed. Weapons are improving, but the DoD still continues to deny the good folks that enforce law under the DoD recognition as real LEO's. Time for this attitude to change!!

In this post 9/11 world, it's unfortunate that the U.S. DOD doe's not give us the recognition we deserve and yet, when we are called to apprehend or investigate our authority is limited. The solution is simple, integrate to one Federal Police agency under the command and jurisdiction of the U.S. DOD from Washington , D.C. and not a local commander. As a former Officer from U.S. Immigration we were issued credentials and weapons and, they were yours! The U.S. Air Force now only hires "Term" positions so they can weed out and pick their favorites but, it's not cost effective nor, is the program up to Police Officers standards. Furthermore, no one wants to be categorized as a "Gate Guard". Even worse they want to treat Cops like active duty "Airman". For years I've been trying to consolidate and bring us all together and unfortunately, the "Company" men always seem to have one objective and that's, get promoted. In numbers there is strength and the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police) is perhaps the only way ! Every one needs to get involved so they can hear our voice !!!!!!!!!

Working with the USMC civilian police for more than 5 years and we have several outside agencies that request our assitance but do to "red tape" we are not authorized. Furthermore, myself is personally tried of hearing comments pretaining to us "You need to join a REAL police department, or your just a glorified security guard." This negative spreads throught out the Armed Services and that why it has a high turnover, and not highly respected. I served in the military and they don't like to be embarrass, I thought so anyway! I 100% support this H.R. 324 and Support H.R. 327/S. 985, the "Law Enforcement Officers' Equity Act"

Our base is outside a small community in Washington. When that police chief asked the commander for a mutual aid agreement it was denied. Denied it because of posse comitatus. So if they are to ask for assistance we have to say no, sorry your on your own.
