iam a recently removed in 2017 as a 0083 police officers assigned to Naval station Norfolk VA I was charged with failure to obey a direct order of what I don't know I believe I was removed for reporting to my congressman bobby scott that I have been conducting unlawful arrest without arrest authority as stated in a Navy IG report which says "ALL OFFICERS HIRED BEFORE 2013 WERE NOT TRAINED TO DOD STANDARDS I went through MSPB and the Judge ruled against me citing I and my witness's were not credible I was trained to the level of the the master at arms which is a violation DODINST 5525.15 and also the 4th amendment rights of the civilians I charged in state and federal court the judge ignored my letter from a sitting congressman my fellow officers who to date still does not have arrest authority on the bases in the Norfolk Area and the navy refuses to train them to the correct level in order these officvers to wear the proper badge and patch and credentials of DOD Police officers I was also ordered by the senior officers of the base to release a federal fugitive wanted by the U S Marshall service and that is just the tip of ice berg at the worlds largest Naval base officers are leaving due to the navy not willing to grant the arrest authority they need to charge in court on federal property so support HR 324 IT NEEDS TO HAPPEN

Support H.R. Bill. If our DoD uniformed civilian police officer 0083’s had statutory authority, recent law suit from states against DoD would not happen, because officers would arrest suspects for a criminal offense, which required finger printing.

Correction from 15 December, 2017: I am currently a local police officer in upstate New York and find it absurd that and individual who is hired to be a police officer does not have statutory authority in any branch of the Department of Defense. The responsibility a police officer is stressful enough, but not able to make arrests due to limited or no statute of authority provides more stress to an already stressed environment. Any person who chooses a challenging career in law-enforcement wants to help and needs the tools to provide such help. And the lacking of statutory authority will not allow an individual department of defense police officer to take appropriate actions when a crime is being conducted in their presence regardless if it’s in their geographical area of responsibility or not. The Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and any other GS 00 83 position needs statutory authority to accomplish their mission to its fullest by preserving the well-being of mankind through protection, security, and community policing. This bill needs to be approved, and the approval of this bill will provide more opportunity in keeping the United States safer.

I'm in support of this bill. I'm a federal police officer and I put my life on the line everyday to protect the public and property. A police officer is a police officer no matter what agency you work for and we all should have the same benefits.

I am a current DOD Police Officer working for the Navy.....Low pay and a 30 year retirement. While OI am considered Law Enforcement by the rest of our community, the Navy does not and refuses to grant us LEO status and the 20 year retirement.

I am a DoD Police Officer in Rhode Island and this would allow us to work more closely with our civilian counterparts that we are expected to support if things go wrong. It would be great to be considered on an even level with them instead of the current status quo where we are not being treated as real police officers by our own military chain of command.

I agree whole heartidly. In some cases it makes us look stupid when the civilian agency arrives and has to ask "Aren't you guys real cops"
