This bill is long over due. After being a retired DOD Police Officer I can only say this bill should have been passed many years ago.

It is time to do the right thing and get these officers the authority that they need to do their job.

I work for the department of corrections and i face and deal with more criminals in one week than most officers will in a year. I also see released convicts on the street and in public all the time but I have to buy and purchuse a conceled carry permit to protect myself because i am not considered law enforcement but if i were to die off duty i would still be intured at the law enforcemtn memorial in washington dc. does this seem right to anyone else

During my 20+ years as a military law enforcement officer and criminal investigator in the U.S. Army I placed members of the military AND CIVILIANS "under apprehension." They were taken into custody... processed, charged and adjudicated in the same manner any person would be who was placed under arrest would be. I personally took child molestors, drunk drivers, abusers and a list of other classifications of criminals off-the-street. Not sure why anyone WOULDN'T support this Bill. Try telling the folks housed in confinement facilites throughout this country and especially Fort Leavenworth Prison they weren't "arrested." Please give us the respect we deserve.

Would appreciate the same LE benefits other LE officers and agents receive.

We just want the same rights and benefits as our counter parts in blue. It is only right.

I have been a DoD Law Enforcement Officer for well over 12 years, and although I love woeking for my country, I fell restricted. Now, perhaps that is what the military wants, so their military officers go unpunished for their offenses, as if in some sort of a little "club", or "organization" where you are protected from the law. It has gone on for too long, and I suspect that if it continues much longer, Dateline NBC or CNN will end up jumping on this story if the Police Unions push it. It is too bad that as a DoD cop I am covered under LEOSA and can crry a concealed weapon nationwide, accross durisdictional lines, without a permit yet I do not have statutory arrest authority to arrest a civillian for a criminal offense that I may witness. It seems that going public just may be the "right thing to do".

We need a civilian chain of command and a unified Department of Defense Police with clearly defined professional standards along with arrest powers.

I don't know why anybody writes letters to this petition any more nobody gives a******anymore. The military is allowed to do what ever they want to there civilian law enforcement and nobody cares, because as long as they keep getting payed no one cares. How many times they try to pass this bill and it gets nowhere. I work for the DOD as a civilian police officer and we are compared to military police and have the same restrictions. Im am a 0083 under OPM and yet identified as security LOL!! what a joke, THEDOD POLICE SERIES IS A JOKE AND SO IS OUR CHAIN OF COMMAND. If you ever want to a police officer join a state, local, or a real Federal agency, NOBODY cares about DOD police not even the people we vote for.

During my five years with the Marine Corps Civilian Law Enforcement Program, I have witnessed far too many crimes by civilians on base go unpunished, simply because we have no arrest authority. Unfortunately, the military chain of command is less concerned with enforcing the law than it is fielding complaints from commissioned officers or their spouses. We need a civilian chain of command and a unified DoD police with clearly established professional standards along with arrest powers.

The Regional Naval command has been using it's wieght against the civilian police (DOD) at an heightened pace over the last decade. It's past due that we become independant. The navy has taken over the department and having them in charge has been like putting the fox in charge of the hen house with the chickens tied up and unable to move.
