I am a felon and has lost my job of three years due to my criminal history. I never lied to my company about my history and they were aware of it. I was terminated and told that I was an unacceptable risk due tom my felony conviction...after three years working for this company. I was a model employee. People whom have truely reformed should not have to be subject to this new form of predjudice from employers. I know that it is time for a change.

I want to see my son have a productive life. He is a good person who has the disease of addiction. It is sad to see him work so hard in his recovery only to have a future that is so limited. He did nothing to hurt anyone, yet he will be scarred for life if changes are not made. It is time to make reform...NOW

We need this now. How can we support our families if nobdy will ever hire somebody with an old conviction on their record?

We put eternal punishment on low-level offenders, and act like we are "tough on crime". This bill will help prevent recidivism and will reduce crime. It will cost nothing. People with jobs can pay taxes. It will make money and reduce crime. Why hasn't it passed already?

How do we expect ex-offenders to change if we don't give them a chance. If every door is shut in their face more than likely they will return back to a life of crime.

Yes, I agree that everyone deserves a second chance - especially the non-violent offender. Let's give people the chance and support services they so desperately need.

This bill will reduce crime, allow people to become employable again, and add taxpayers to our country. It's long overdue.

When an employer discriminates against our pass, active or crimes not only are we judge for the crime we committed. In addition, we are charge again with a crime in which we have already paid for. Double Jeopardy should apply to the ones who do not make a career out of crime. Moreover, we should give Americans a fighting chance to prove that they truly paid for their crime. Let Expunge their records and present a winning attitude Please.

Yes I am a victim of Bank of America I received a check from a guy online telling me he wanted to buy all my computer monitors then I feel into the trap, I took the check to the Bank it was issued from which was Bank of America and I told them I wanted to make sure this check was legit and they called 911 on me. I have been not able to get a job sense this matter has been going on I am currently on ARB probation over this matter and the police were no help they actually followed through with this ugly case knowing I never had a criminal record until this matter hit me. Now I have about 5 charges of check fraud so I really am very afraid to ever take a check unless its a pay check. Never again anyone who tries to offer me a check I will not accept it.

It's no way to treat a citizen of your country if you continue to punish a man/woman by refusing them work after they have paid their debt to society. Besides their dependents suffer too. Families re breaking down and people are committing suicide for lack of a second chance at life for one mistake. Double punishment for one offense is un-American. No one can live without work. Even the poorest nations give their citizens work. To deny me work is simply asking me to resort to any means necessary. I am American, I don't want to steal, I don't want to kill myself. I want to live! Please give me work!! Any work!!!

I am a convicted felon as well as a victim of the war on drugs. I was in the car with a family member who neglected to tell me that he had 4 ozes of crack in underwear when we were pulled over in NJ. I received 2 felony convictions. This would have been my first offense. I did no jail time but was on probation for 2 years. These convictions are from 1993. It is now 2009. Since then, I have never gotten so much as a traffic ticket, I have completed a BFA in Visual Communications and am currently working to completing a MFA in Media Studies. I am also the mother of 4 beautiful girls. However over the years I have tried to find jobs and have been denied. I have had to stay in an abusive marriage because I know that even with my degree no one is willing to hire me in a position that will allow me to support four young girls. So, my daughters are subjected to seeing that if you make mistakes in your life you have to pay for them like I am paying for mine. There are people out here who just want to work...like everyone else. It is sad to me that people would rather me go apply for welfare, food stamps, and section 8, then just allow me the opportunity to be a hell of a creative director, graphic designer, or productive member of society. So do I begin the cycle of poverty, and all the things that come with it for generations to come because no one will give me a chance. My daughters must grow up in housing projects around just the kind of environment that will impact their lives and the lives of their children simply because of something that happened to me almost 20 years ago.....

I made a stupid mistake while under the influence of drugs/alcohol, which resulted in a common-law robbery charge(supposedly) while I was under the influence. This was in 1996. Now its 2009, and I have been drug and alcohol free, and out of trouble for 13 years. You'd think that would make a difference to a prospective employer. But, it doesn't. When do ex-offenders TRULY get a second chance worth living instead of a life sentence? The only ones who benefit from ex-offenders having a life sentence are the politicians and other public "so-called" servants, as we are the least of the least and could care less - they get their pay courtesy of the U.S. citizen through the taxes that we, the people pay to these 'public servants' each year.
