There is no cost to anyone on this bill. And it will greatly help the economy. There are many many bright people who could go back to work having paid their debt to society and ready to give back.REPORT COMMENTS

I am an ex-offender who went through a deeply troubled period of time from the ages of 17 through 19. I am now 22 and have an associates of arts and sciences and am working towards my bachelors however I feel my attempts to get my life back on track are pointless if my offense from 4 years ago continues to hold me back for the rest of my life.REPORT COMMENTS

Sir,or who it may concerned. I was granted my expungement and my Certificate from DPS and I am still having problems with employment. There are numerous agencies that have not updated their data and when employers do background checks there it is, especially in the medical and government entities. I am 51 years old and praying that I can be employed after a length of time but agengies still have authorities over incorrect information that is not fair. I will have nothing for retirement and I want to be self sufficient in life.My charge was dismissed after 12 years and then expunged. I just want to take care of myself and not have to depend on others to do so.REPORT COMMENTS

Most states permit an ex-offender to expunge his/her record. The Federal system effectively provides a "life sentence".REPORT COMMENTS

Twelve years ago, my 21 year-old daughter -- then an honors student in college -- got hooked on cocaine. Her life became a downward spiral that ended with arrest and a felony conviction. She cooperated extensively with federal authorities and served six months and a year of probation. Like the thousands of others who have been convicted of non-violent offenses, she -- and we along with her -- have learned that the six months was really a life sentence. A model citizen and the mother of two wonderful children, she struggles at marginal jobs that are inadequate to support her children. They, too, are serving her life sentence. Extremely bright, she was accepted into nursing school only to learn that she would never be licensed because of her federal conviction -- and so it has been with every attempt to build a stable and productive life for herself and her family. H.R. 1529 could turn her life around. Nursing school, a real job, and a hopeful life for our grandchildren would be within her reach. In the name of all that is humane, in the name of christian forgiveness, I urge you to support the passage of HR 1529.REPORT COMMENTS

My older brother was killed in a boating accident by an intoxicated woman who was charged with negligence homicide, convicted and received one year unsupervised probation for her crime. I got high and did five years in a federal prison and now doing five years probation. Is that justice in the land of the free and home of the brave? "Right-On" for the Second Chance !!!!!!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I would like to see more leniency from companies and government entities which employ the public. Furthermore I would like to see a law pass that would put discrimination of criminal and credit records in the same definition of Equal Opportunity Employer so employers that are classified as EOE can no longer do so unless they consider potential employees with undesirable backgrounds.REPORT COMMENTS

Why something of this nature has not been passed yet is beyond me. I have a family member who has a felony conviction, has paid his debt and then some. His loss was monetary, emotional and the pressure put on him and his family is a burden I don't think most people could bear. The limitations posed by his "felony conviction" are keeping a great mind from being it's most productive and his community is not able to use a valuable asset. Why , in our system of justice, are we always hardest on the people who come forth and take full responsibilty for their actions yet somehow the people with "repeat offenses" find loop holes and "gaps" in the system that allow them to enjoy the freedoms that have been taken away from people who "one time" made an error in judgement. This is a correction long time in coming.REPORT COMMENTS
