My husband is doing life. 21 when he took the life of another young man in 2006. This was a sad and tragic moment in our community. My husband did a lot of positive things in the community before this happened and even h the evidence in his case shows he didn't want to go get involved with the victim. He stupidly went anyway because the other parties insisted on going. It was his fault and he doesn't blame anyone else ever but he does deserve another chance as he did not intend to do anyone this severe of harm. My husband authored a graphic novel "INSIDE/OUTSIDE, Your Choice" www.inside-outside.me while incarcerated to help youth make better choices. He deserves to be out here with us and helping make a difference. Thank you for hearing me rant. I love my husband dearly.REPORT COMMENTS

My childhood friend has been in prison 18 years. He received a 9 year sentence for attempted murder and 25 years for a gun enhancement the D.A (according to CA law) had every right to tack on. He was 19 when he committed the crime and now is 38. It's unfortunate that justice and the law are two completely different arguments. If you send a child to live among positive; educated; respectful human beings the likeliness of that child becoming like them is pretty likely however, if you send a child to live among liars; manipulators; the odds are just as likely... and that is actually what the state of California has done to anyone that has made a mistake. It's difficult to stay hopeful when the odds are in fact against you.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband is returning back to prison on a violation of his parole. Is he going to have to serve another 15 years in order to get out on parole. There is no help for these Men or Women we they are released back to society, why not further their rehabilitation by being compassionate about their wanting to change. HELP is all they are looking for but this system is not for any of us. A lot of what we see is individuals acting out because there is no HOPE!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

We people should be compationate about lots of inmates, :-)especially those who being Juveniles got into trouble, have had good behavior and have served a good share of their sentences. I am sure a second chance would not only benefit them but society on general & at the same time would save hundreds of thousands of dollars. .REPORT COMMENTS

My husband TMY LWS Committed a life crime at the age of 19 Half of his life has been spent in the California State prisons . I believe he was given way too much time considering he was still a teen and the hallmark features of youth should have been great weight in his case and sentencing fortunately sb261 passed and he falls into it in every aspect of the law this law should help my husband and many others get a chance at parole Ang get a youth offender hearing instead of a regular board hearing making the commissioners give great weight on the youth features at the time of the crime . We need to be a voice for our love ones and bring awareness to the California parole process for lifers a lot of people are not educated on the issue education is the key for us to make a difference and stand by our love ones against the Un justice in California parole board process I support bills Sb260, Sb261, And the new proposed bill that will extend the sb261 youth offender law to 25. Its time for people to come together and protest in front of the Parole Board in every city that has one. And demand release, changes, and new policies for the men and women serving Life sentences that have been incarcerated as juveniles. Tried as adults and have been in prison 25-30+ years well over half their lives. And yet have been given a second chance. While those who were adults and convicted of child molestation and other heinous crime are being released at a fast pace that they become repeat offenders.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband qualifies under SB 261. He was 22 when he committed his crime and received 15 years to life, he is now 45. My husband didn't even get a first chance at life with his upbringing, he at least deserves one now. He attends groups, reads self help books I send him, has obtained numerous certificates, and is working hard to come home. The youth offender bill gave him hope, this would bring him home.REPORT COMMENTS

WHEN A LIFER COMES UP FOR PAROLE: THE BOARD SHOULD LOOK AT THE INDIVIDUAL NOT THE SENTENCE. BECAUSE THE PERSON WHO WALKED IN THE DOOR OF PRISON CHANGES TO BETTER THEMSELVES TO RE ENTER SOCIETY. BUT THE BOARD USELY LOOKS AT FILE AND NOT THE PERSON. MOST WOMEN ARE LOCKED UP IN SELF DEFENSE FOR THEMSELVES OR THEIR KIDS. YOU HAVE SOME LIFERS LOCKED UP BECAUSE THE COULD NOT AFFORD AN ATTORNEY WHO WOULD PROBABLY DEFEND THEM IN COURT. A LIFER IN PRISON ARE USUALLY THE ONES THAT HAVE THE BEST CONDUCT BEHIND THE WALLS. I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE BECAUSE I WAS A LIFER IN GA. SOMEONE SAW HOPE IN ME I HAVE BEEN OUT FOR 4 YEARS AND I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE WALK OUT THE GATES FOR THE SECOND SECOND CHANCE.REPORT COMMENTS

My brother has been incarcerated for 25 years, he keeps getting denied parole. He has learned skills while inside and he has met all other requirements for receiving parole date. He is a model inmate! Yet he has been denied 5 times! I pray he is given a 2nd chance to live his life on the outside of prison walls. He was young 19 when incarcerated and has learned and received the help he needed. He has grown through these years and deserves this chance to live his life out of confines. My brother has been set off 5 times in the past 25 years and the only reason sited is "the seriousness of the offense" - which is evidently the go-to reason for denying parole. He has done everything he knows to do and is close to losing hope of ever having a second chance. I hope and pray this petition can make a difference.REPORT COMMENTS
