Its been almost 10 years since I caught my 2 felonies and paid for it. I'm 29 years old now and haven't been in trouble since. Everyone deserves a second chance to serve the county they love.

Why not give a Person the opportunity to start over instead of marking them with an F on the Forehead until death

I have 3 felonies on my record but for the past 7 years I have gotten a job and obtained a Associate's Degree in Computer Science. I would like to enlist. I have changed my 100 percent and would like a chance to represent my country. Just as my father did.

To whom it may concern. My name is David Polanco. In the shortest way possible I would like to express myself regarding my aspirations to join the US Army. I was raised mainly as a home body most of my life. I was so well taken care of that I thought I can never muster the will to face the trials of life and overcome my fears as well as my father and brother have in there life. So when I grew up and my calling to take care of my family came I sought to do the right thing even in the presence of fear. I was living in Miami some years back, and one day I received a call from my aunt stating that my grandfather was suffering from heart conditions and dimentia. I went to the hospital with my mother and father where he was admitted, and told the doctors and social workers that I would take care of my grandfather. i did not know the dangers that lied within the community in which he was residing. Nor did I know about the extent to which the thugs in his building would reach to try and drive us out. Even to the point of threatening my mother to cause her physical harm. Most of the time I was forced to stay in my grandfathers apartment out of fear of threats we would hear every day. We called the cops numerous times, and every time they came the thugs were gone. They were so diligent at getting out of sight before police arived that eventually they didn't want to believe us. For two years this went on. From 311 calls to 911, to calling the precinct direct. They would call me out in the lobby of the building, outside of my window threatening that they would shoot us if we don't leave. Eventually my father got a stroke and became bound to the house. My grandfather's dimentia worsened and he had to be admitted to a home for elderly people. Where he resided until his recent passing. These people made fun of his death, and tormented my mother to the point of constant grief, and crying on top of the fact that she was in mourning. One night two men were calling me out, and this time I came out and told them to stop. I told them that my parents are old and ill,and that they were making to much noise. I did not even address the fact that they were calling me out. They just stared and notted there heads yes, as to indicate,or make me believe that they understood. I went back inside, and seconds later they did it again. My grandfather had an old gun in his closet that he had kept for years. And I remembered that he did. So when I heard them calling me out again, I ran to the closet and proceeded to grab the gun,and I went outside. I told them to stop calling me out and to stop calling me a faggot. They both had bottles in their hands. I had the gun in my sweater,so it was not visible. One of them got up as if to attack, and I stepped back. My parents came out,and I told him to watch his language in front of my mother. My mother told the man who got up to stop yelling curses at me,and he proceeded to step forward in a combatant stance with the bottle in his hand. I told h

Our ever increasing use of felony convictions for minor and non violet offenses creates a generation of individuals that have a very hard time of adding back to society. Its time to move past the stigma that all ex offenders have no value to society. Military service is a great place to both teach discipline and respect as well as allowing individuals to give back to our country.

I have paid my debt to society. I made some mistakes in my life but i have learned from them and i have bettered myself. I have spoken in many schools about drug abuse since my conviction. I am dedicated to making my life as good as it can be and i think that joining the united states army is the way to better myself even more.

Some of them need the structure coming from bad situations in their life and have made changes for the better. I believe it will help get a lot of tge African American males who are repeat offenders a chance to things different. They stay stuck in the enviromment with no opportunity to get a. job or a good paying job but no reform for bad choices they have made. What will it hurt to give them the opportunities are they not a part of this good old USA that we live. I belive crime will go down as well because they have a different way of doing things in life.

I cannot understand why anyone thinks its a good idea to hold back the growing number of felons in our society especially if they have tried to turn their lives around. By not giving them a second chance you are telling them there is nothing they can do to overcome this disability, which will lead to nothing good in their lives and the lives of people around them who must support the fallout. If a felon has done everything they can to improve their life and shows that they want to become a productive member of society after an extended period of good behavior I strongly believe they should be given a chance and be able to serve their nation (especially young Americans who have no chance at finding employment in this economy). Giving most felons a second chance and a chance to serve is the right thing to do for a society both morally and economically.

I have been wanting to join the military for a long time in 2009 i put myself in a situation that if i was able to go back in time to fix i would. I was young and dumb trying to make something of myself that i didnt care about before. Ive done time and i did pay for my mistake ive done alot in life and what topped it off was a mistake of not calling the police before i decided to get my revenge. The military has always been something i wanted to be part of to fight for my country for my family and to prove to people who feel like they can not make thay they can. Not all people who went to prison are bad people some of us didn't have that structure or that family that helped so all we had was the street if possible i would love to be a part of it because i know i can make a difference. Please consider this.

Please consider the people who have spent years living in a straight line trying to do anything to clear their name. Most of us are good people who have mad one mistake at a weak moment that now defines our lives. So if the army is looking for recruits that will work hard and do anything to finally be proud of themselves again, here we are.
